A few scattered thoughts about saltwater sport fishing in Egypt:
Egypt has coasts on the Red Sea, the Mediterranean, the Gulf of Suez, and the Gulf of Aqaba.
Red Sea and Gulf of Suez fishing is the most rewarding.
Although a great diving and snorkeling destination, Sharm El-Sheikh (southern tip of Sinai Pininsula) is a protectorate. No fishing activities are allowed there (on- or off-shore).
Fishing the Mediterranean is permitted, but not very rewarding
Most sport fishing boats in the Gulf of Suez and the Egyptian Red Sea are wooden, local-made boats from approximately 9m to 20m in lenght. They differ in level of luxury from very basic to very luxurious. However, almost all of them have cabins with beds, one or more toilets, big fuel and water tanks, suitable for multi-day live-aboard safaris.
Trolling, still, and drift fishing are the most common types of saltwater fishing in Egypt.
Still fishing depths range from a few meters to 80+.
Trolling depths range from 20 to 200+ meters
For trolling, Egyptians mostly use lures (common) or live bait (rare).
For still fishing, Egyptians mostly use cut natural bait (most common) or lures (very rare).
Unlike many water bodies on Earth, the Red Sea is a year-round fishing destination.
Tight lines!
