sounds like a good idea. any ideas on where to fish????
personally for a species hunt should be from a rock mark rather than beach...

Great idea Andy, I will give you a donation once it is up and running. Make it over 24 hours, start at Burrowhead, for wrasse, pollack, dogfish,, mackerel, as bankers, then conger, rocklings and bonus fish. Stop for an eel at Creetown on way home, then to Carsethorn to finish the day with a short drive home.
A very worthy cause.
By the way I thought that I was your hero lol.

don't worry mate the way we're playing i wouldn't even wear a hearts top lol
i'm not due back my hols until the 12th so unfortunatly can't offer my services as driver, bait collector or even meals on wheels.

are you going to set yourself targets like you won't leave a mark until you have caught a certain species or just fish a set time and then move on.

Hi Andy, reading your original post, I believe that you are doing this fundraising for 'Help for Heroes' as an individual. I would suggest that in addition to the nominated 24 hour period, you also nominate a secondary date in case the weather and conditions are detrimental to having good sport. Our club used to run an annual match on the same lines, with members attempting to catch as many different species as posible within a 24 hour period. The limits were from Finnarts point to Carsethorn, and over the years it was surprising how few fish could be caught during the time limit. Dogs and wrasse were the bankers, next came pollack, flounder and eel, but not everyone reached their target. The average would be four species, although we adhered to the minimum size list, so mini species were out. The best ever by one angler was eleven. So I would suggest you keep it as simple as possible and aim for at least £1 per fish, or better still, donations. Allow mini species, take a photo of each fish and display them on here after the event. Make sure you have a few hours kip during the night, as it is not worth spending a few hours trying for a conger, when all you are likely to get during darkness are doggies. And you do not want to be sleepy on a busy road. The very best of luck mate.

Cheers Jackie intend to do this as an individual yes , photograph and return all fish and was looking for donations rather than sum per fish , will defo have another date in mind if the weather doesn't suit original plan, still at the planning stage but hope to get things finalized shortly
Thanks Andy

Very good mate, it clarifies the way you intend to go about it. The very best of luck, and try and exceed 10 species. I will give a £20 donation, as they say at Tescos, every little helps.

Timing couldn't be any better. I have got a load of injured servicemen staying in Carsethorn that week with an organisation called The Not Forgotten Association. On Wednesday 14 July we have a boat trip for them, weather dependent. I am the secretary of the Royal Marines Sea Angling Association and this is the first of a number of planned events for lads that make it back but not with all there bits still attached. I have got one boat free of charge for the day, out of Portpatrick and I'm looking for a second to maybe sail north from Whitehaven to around the Whithorn area to take the other half. (5 per Boat, 1 x guide, & 1 x press man from angling press)
Do you know of any boats that might offer us the day for free?
Would you and the rest of the lads take an injured servicemen out for a few hours off the beach on Monday? (How is the ground, they're not up to rock-hoppin just yet.) Good luck for your H4H event and thank you. Andy B Sec RM SAA
