Things are looking good for the weekend at last!

I'm hoping to go out and dig for bait at some stage (last weekends kingrag from ????? were all dead by the next morning :uhuh: )

I was after some whiterag, where's a good place these days? Gorey? St Aubins?

Hello Chippy As you go towards Elizabeth Castle on the left hand side two thirds of the way out have had some good White-rag I used to keep them alive with a aquarium oxygenation in my shed" the air pipe machine that keeps fish alive"
in a bucket or tub, ? by the way if your feeling lazy plenty of mackerel seem to be around no digging just a thought good luck Chippy have a really pleasant Weekend.

I used to cover my white rag with a light covering of dry sand from the top of the beach and they would be very lively for the first two days and then keel over on the third. If the sand was damp though they were gone in 12 hours.

There are 4 species of Ragworm

RED RAG

Which grow to about 20cm and are found mainly in gritty mud. This is the most common rag to be found in tackle shops and seams to catch the most.

KING RAG

Grow to about 50cm and found mainly in the sand and mud. The rag when used correctly are outstanding for the bigger fish like Smooth hound and big Bass.

WHITE RAG

Grow to the same size as King but are scarce. The rag is found in the clean sand and is used mainly for small fish and flatties.

HARBOUR RAG

Also can be found under the name maddies they are found in the thick soft estuary mud and are outstanding for flounder and mullet.

Rag can be kept alive very successfully by having a shallow trey. partially fill with fresh saltwater and aerate keep in the fridge and the worm should stay alive for a few weeks.

theres no need to airate white rag.
just keep them in trays of sea water, 1in deep in the fridge. they keep for months this way. change half the water once a week. i prefer to give the 1/2 in of sea coal and they burow into it.
coral sand also works but either must have no silt in it.

I had heard that Mick was looking into doing something along those lines........will be supurb IF it happens!

i find if were ever i go fishing for bass, turbot etc. u can catch sand eels on almost any type of feather, you can keep them alive in a bucket of water, then you have fresh bait!

There have been some live eel from sale at Micks in Guernsey... Good sign?!
