Advice For Fishing Abroad Please, Urgent..

hi, i am going to a small fishing town in the south of sri lanka, called Beruwela.
I am going on the 17th of July, so i need advice pretty soon.,
i have tried several methods of trying to find techniques, or plainly just how to fish out on the beaches there, but i can`t find any websites explaining much.
If anyone has fished there, or locally (Sri Lanka) or neighbouring countries or regions, please could i have some advice on basically, how to fish.
i do a lot of sea fishing here at home, so i have the gear, but just don`t know how to use it...
any suggestions??

At a guess you'll have plenty of action with small trevally (and some bigger ones) and various little tropical lovlies.

Take a spinning rod and a selection of gear from a couple of small floats for fishing the reef and beach with strips of fish and meat (and even bread). Take along a selection of small plugs and spinners and you should get a few bigger trevally etc on these. You may even want to take a fly rod for these and some larger slatwater flys - great fun.
It may be worth having a beachcaster and some slightly heavier gear for lobbing out larger deadbaits as there will be BIG stingers and also some shark about.

PS: Never fished Sri Lanka, but it can't be dissimilar to fishing the Maldives, Seychelles and Mauritious beaches.

Just very quickly, in case you need to start buying lures, have a look at this post - http://www.worldseafishing.com/forums/showthread.php?t=23964. Forget the title there's, on page 4, an excellent technical response from Estuary Perch regarding fishing for Barramundi. But you can glean a lot reading that thread.

Also, as someone suggested on the other thread you started, Estuary Perch will be a good source of information - he lives in Sri Lanka!

In terms of lures, providing you get on the 'Net quickly you should be able to buy some of the lures mentioned from somewhere like Harris Angling.

I don't know if any of these will be suitable for Sri Lankan conditions but I received an email from Harris Sportsmail yesterday and apparently Luhr Jensen lures are changing hands and will no longer be available in the UK so they have cut all of their remaining stock by 50%. Also nearly the whole range of Mean lures are half price at the moment as are selected Strike Pro jerkbaits. Might be worth a look.

but buying them is not a problem,

i work in a fishing tackle shop in south wales (im not going to mention the name of the shop though)

but if anyone else knows of any other methods

All I would use in Southern Sri Lanka is either a Bass rod or something like An Exage (the 10/11 foot one is ideal).

Use a normal sized Reel (I would use something like a Shimano Aerolex 8000). But load it with slightly heavier line 25lb would be ideal maybe 30lb. Don't bother with a shockleader and use a simple Two hook paternoster with a good strong 2/0 or 3/0. Try to keep your rigs as simple as possible with nothing visible apart from near the hook where you could use a blade or a couple of beads or sequins - the shinier the better. Try using chunks of fish as bait. Also you can use a running ledger instead of the paternoster.

The fish out there fight like buggery, they have relatively sharp teeth also so be careful when you unhook them. Fish your bait for about fifteen minutes and then cast a new bait in another direction. I used to use a Dexter Wedge type thing for my weight because the water is so clear and quite often managed to catch on the retrieve in.
