Hi all,
Has anyone got any recommendations for lures for rough weather? I only seem to be able to catch bass in sunny and calm weather when spinning. Take the weekend for example. The wind was fully in my face, and the sea was pretty rough. I tried a Dexter Wedge, Redgill and J11 (the latter 2 needed some weight to get them into the wind). Nothing, not a sniff. Meanwhile I was connecting with (small) bass all the time on the leger rod. This appears to be the norm at the moment, during hot weather I do really well spinning, where as spinning in rough weather has given me zero fish in many attempts. Any top lures worth trying? I know it's a matter of matching lures to conditions but I've tried pretty much all the lures I have (only 5 or 6 types). I'll try the "kitchen sink" lure next ;)

Thanks,

Steve.

the fish may be elsewhere in rougher weather - or simply you are not putting the lure in front of them

Maybe the bass are only hunting baitfish during hot, sunny weather and are feeding on crabs/worms disturbed by rough weather when its windy. Just a thought?? :)

in rough weather the water gets coloured and certain lures and colours (such as black) cant be seen.

HI went to GINST POINT ( southwest wales) on sunday massive tide and strong north westerly wind had the same problem. Tried TOBY's in various sizes and BASS BULLET. no joy at all mate tried DEXTER WEDGE and small shads. Has anybody caught much from this mark lately?

Black is one of the best colours you can use in coloured water or low light conditions. A hunting preditor will attack from below and black will provide a very good "marker", even in clear water.

your spot on mate not just a thought but fact the reason they stop feeding on the lures is that when it is rough the small fry move out further from the shore where they feel more safe , and the rough weather dose stir up all the food and brings alot of this to shore

I wouldn't bother spinning or plugging in rough weather, I have never caught in any of my regular haunts which usually produce when the weather is nice
