best tides for plugging?

being new to this fishing lark i'm a bit confused as to the best tides to plug/spin for bass. some people say i should be there an hour before the tide and an hour after, other people say completly the opposite!!

also would the best tide times vary according to the conditions..ie from the beach/rock hopping/night or day/after bad weather etc.

i've fished various marks around torbay/dartmouth, at various times, without success and think part of the reason is my lack of understanding of the tides.

Personally I believe that dusk and dawn is far more important than the tide state, but saying that it also varies on the marks, weather etc. Its the early bird that catches the bass, I have had success on dead low tide plugging between rocks and casting into channels, pulling deep and surface chuggers, but also on high tide at times as well.

Saying that, if I had a pound for everytime I saw a nice bass swim within a few foot away and wouldnt look at anything i threw at it I would be rich ! They are different all together dusk and dawn, but I have struggled with hook ups losing a fair few so may try single hooks.

When about to lift the plug / spinner / lure out of the water, work it right to the last momment. The feeling when you have lazily lifted the lure early and see the bass miss after following in is a very sicky in the gut feeling ! They can be under your feet !

thanks sally, i'll bear those points in mind.. perhaps i'll have more luck.Bingo... that also meens i can go fishing more often as i'm not going to be constantly looking for a certain tide (can't wait to tell my wife the good news)!!!
