This is probably a long shot, but does anyone have any experience or information about sea fishing in and around Singapore?

Hi Gashed

Yep have fished around Singapore many times - the fishing is not great to be honest...but now and again you can get lucky with grouper and snapper on the local wrecks.

Bedok Jetty is a good place for shore fishing and turns up some huge fish, but you generally have to put in a lot of hours to get one. Big stingray are probably the main target there....and there has been some caught well over 100lb.

Close to Singapore you have decent fishing at Rompin in Malaysia where there is an abundance of Sailfish. Tanjung Pinang in Indonesia can also be fished for a wide variety of bottom fish.

Details of all the fishing in this area can be obtained from the Fishing shops in Beach Road....Sabre Tackle is a good one and very helpful.

Check out the prices of Shimano gear in Singapore as it's much cheaper than elsewhere.

Hope this helps

Dave

Hi GasHed
Some of our other Club members have also fished Rompin in Malaysia - it's a just over 3 hour car ride from Singapore. As Dave said it's renowned for Sailfish, but they also catch other smaller pelagics including occasional juvenile Black Marlin.

To help you build up a picture here's the url of an article on the Sailfish fishing - http://www.pemm.org.my/sailfish.asp. And there're also a number of forums that cover this particular area - Dave's your man there - but here's just one, attached to this site - http://www.gamefish.ws/.

Well, after posting months ago looking for advice on fishing in Singapore, I'm finally jetting off there in a couple of weeks time. I've done some more research and hopefully armed with my telescopic spinning and beachcaster rods, I will get something. I will post a report if I do get anything.

Lops of tackle shops are to be found near the corner of Beech Road and Arab Street. Several of these organise all inclusive trips to Malaysia and indinesia for GT popping, Sailfish fishing and all manner of reef fishing. Pop in and have a chat with the guys at Sabre Tackle and see if they can slot you in with a party.

I've seen ads for liveaboard charters from Mal/Singapore to the Spratly Islands in the S China Sea ... superb boat fishing, poppering and trolling over reefs and pinnacles. A long way off Singapore, a bit hardcore perhaps, but supposedly the best fishing in the area.

Ok, I'm back from Singapore, totally loved the place and the people. The fishing though....well thats another story. Not so good. I put in alot of hours at Bedok Jetty and some other places and only caught small fish, mostly tamban I think they are called.

Anyway, a day out on a local boat came to the rescue...

Not brilliant I know, but the queen fish put up a hell of a scrap on the light tackle I was using.

I talked to a few locals who all say the fishing there is on the up. I saw a few decent fish caught from the shore whilst I was there, and the day I left I heard that a huge Stingray had been taken at Bedok Jetty.
