Cuttles are pretty good to eat. I much prefur them to squid.
Before you go home clean it as it can be very messy if you break the ink sack.
Push the cuttle bone out of the bottom of the body, towards the tenticles at the bottom. Open the cuttle fish right up (this is all done with your hands - no knife) pull away the head and guts. rince. Pull the skin away from the meat and you are left with prime flesh. It takes less than 1min.

The best way to eat it, me and my mate found, was to cut into thin strips and deepfry for 30secs to 1min.
Not bad, although there are better things to eat.

Does make cracking bait.

I have seen floyd or stein cooking cuttles and using the ink to make a black sauce to go with it. Looked pretty rank although they seemed to enjoy eating it.

Thanks for the tip, especially on how to dismantle it. Much goo was evident and I'll certainly remeber do this before coming home next time; I thought that the ink would be gone as it had pumped loads out in my bucket but boy was I wrong.

I shallow fried strips as you advised for about 1 minute and it was quite pleasant with lemon juice and nice and tender.

Thanks again

It was Hugh Fearnley Whittinstall who did it with the black ink sauce. Looked rank but judging what went in I imagine it was nice

if you cut across the body so that you get rings, roll in seasoned flour and drop into some batter made of just flour and beer, then deep fry till golden brown, nice, same with squid.
