lure fishing/ spinning

hi all

Any point trying to start lure fishing this time of year? if so any recommednations re tactic or lure types

dont see any reason not too...

your chances will be a little slimmer though. if mackerel are still in your area, the predators that feed off them will still be around, e.g bass ect for a month or so depending on where you fish/live... also fish like pollock will take large mackerel type lures and cod will take rubber worms, spinning style with a wye lead or barrel and a long fluro leader.

its a good time of the year to nip out for an hour or two and practice working rapalas or similar, and having a nose at local marks or possible hot-spots.

hopefully, with the odd bonus fish to show for your efforts!

me, planning to practice fly-casting on the local fields for salt water fun in the spring :)

an hour out with the rods always better than an hour on the sofa ;)

yes its worth it now definately forget the mackeral now is the time the small whiting move in and you still have mackeral about in most places anyway.

I would say that it is the best time of year to go for a Bass with a lure like a rapala.We go out when a high tide coincides with dusk or the crack of dawn around rocky outcrops down here in Cornwall,and the results can be rewarding.Pack light and then just walk along some coastline and stop when you see a suitable spot,if it dont fish move on.:)

I've caught Bass on the plug late October/early november. I agree with cornishangler, now is the best time to go plugging. Certainly the best chance of a double figure fish!! :) The bigger fish gorge themselves on the pin whiting so are more inclined to take a plug/spinner.

In fact.......I highlighted the best tides in late Sept/Oct/early Nov ( for my area) in anticipation LAST JANUARY!!!! :blink: :blink: Sad or what!!

I've been rewarded so far with a best fish of 6lb last week.

dont be daft mate! thats what forums, or talking to people are for.. ive learned more in the past couple of months off here than i did in 10 years fishing as a juniour. its a bit of a shame that tactics and technology have advanced so much over the ten or so years i haven't been fishing, and fish stock has depleted, again.. so much.. but thats a different story.

i dont think lure fishing ever has a closed season, fish eat fish (mostly) but some of the more common predators migrate during the colder in shore sea temps but every day can be as differnt as the next.. you can go out in the height of summer and walk home mumbling :dry:

spinning/lures are one of the most enjoable types of fishing for me.. ive spent hours up on loch fyne out of season, only to catch a small pollock., but i enjoyed every cast! counting different depths.. flutters, twitches ect.

i was fishing over at cork a year or so ago, feathers for makkie and getting the odd fish now and then and an old local boy walked over to me to say hello.. and then asked if he could have a cast or two.. he lobbed in the feathers and gave them a really jagged retreive, as in whipping the rod up really sharpley on a megga fast return, 6 fish bought back on every cast :blink:

never been stuck for makkie bait since ;)

get the rod, practice working lures and spingtime.. post piccys of BIG bass next season!!

intresting reading c/a.. if you dont mind me asking... what do you find best? a high tide (peak) on the brake of dawn or coming to high tide at sunrise... :g:

p.s, dg18.. keep an eye on flea-bay.., shimano aspires or similar shimano spinning rods go for pennies most of the time.
