I don't pay for my trips out, John the skipper of Outcast sells fish caught at market, selected fish go to his restaurant, it works well both ways.
John fillets a few fish for me to take home.

Hi Thugsey
Welcome to the site and it does look like you have great success.
Please have fun and enjoy swapping stories, giving advice, asking for help on here. It is, on the whole a great community with a few individuals that enjoy a bit of a wind up.
I am mates with some commercial rod and line Bass anglers, but commercial fishing and this website (specifically for recreational sea anglers) tend to create a bit of friction so you may find a bit of lively debate coming your way, particularly if you send people to look at pictures of piles of dead Bass and then tell them they were sold.
....it kind of goes against the ethos of most of the anglers on here.
Well done on your catches though and you'd be welcome out on my boat from time to time, but we are there for the sport and we only keep a bit for ourselves.

Where do we get the Dexters from?
Where do we get the Dexters from?
Hi, Look through my site for baits direct www.freewebs.com/thugsey/
They are a must to any tackle box, these are not cheap wedges but baits dir have the lowest prices i have found. Buy 45grm and 60 grm, do use a shock leader as you can bung these out a good distance, they are made from brass not lead.

Thanks for that I see you sell the Bass Bullets, we use them here (as we should) the Guys who designed them John Rawle and Bob Cox are both in our Marina. However when we hit the bass we generally use Redgills, Jelly worms (blue ones), and even mackerel feathers. I think your methods are far more conservation minded than those B--------S who pair trawl the western approaches, good luck to you.

Give the fish respect!

Sorry Thugsey,
2 types of angler in my book; those that fish for sport and those that fish for profit. You are indirectly fishing for profit. You are effectively a commercial rod & liner!
Your fishing is unsustainble. Those fish you are killing are prime breeding stock. If you killing fish under 45cm (minimum!) then these fish haven't spawned, regardless of the stupid 36cm MLS.
If you enjoy catching bass then I would read up on the lifecycle of the species and try and appreciate the pressure these slow growing fish are under. Just imagine what your summer fishing would be like without any bass around? Keep a couple for the table but show some constraint mate, you know if makes sense.

Sorry mate, John is a commercial fisherman, I fell trees for a living.
Now we have an issue!
Most of our timber is imported, jobs gone in this country, woodlands unmanaged etc.
I and others all around the country fish with local commercial small boats, it helps them survive, Yes there has to be constraints but please stick the boot into the big boys first, 50 ton catch trawler with 30% waste, 2 ton rod and line mixed species small operator and no waste targeted fish. Thugsey
Thugsey,
Don't worry I stick it to the big commercials at every opportunity mate :)
In fact I would rather have a fishing industry made of many more smaller outfits than just a few huge industrial operations.
My concern is you can't just point the finger at someone else unless you demostrate constraint yourself. The fish are being hit inshore as well as offshore, it's a free for all!
An anology would be loggers laying claim to the New Forset because they have more right to the trees because they 'earn a living from trees'. Except unlike loggers that replace the trees the take, commercials give nothing back. They catch as much as they can as often as they can. Then blame everyone else (the french/spanish/other larger outfits, even RSA's!!) when there is no fish left. The only difference between big and small commercial outfits is the scale of their catch.
One rule for all is the way forward.
Ask yourself this. Would you give up sea fishing if catch and release was mandatory (and enforced)? If no then there is no reason you couldn't fish for sport now and jsut keep the odd fish for the table.
