View Full Version : Paddle Round the Pier Beach Festival: Charity fishing comp.

Afternoon all, as some of you know, Im one of the senior organisers for www.paddleroundthepier.com
This years event will raise money for the RNLI, Rockinghorse Appeal (childrens hospital) and Surfaid International. It will be over the full weekend of 7th & 8th July. This years event is themed as a beach festival and i have persuaded the organisers that us lot as anglers should be included.
My idea (still under progress and open to suggestions) is a fishing comp held in the evening of Saturday 7th where the angler pay's and entry donation of say £5-10?? and also gets sponsored by friends and family.
For each say £20 raised in sponsorship the angler recieves a raffle ticket for a chance to win prizes donated by the local shops and fishing tackle industry.
We use this format in the main paddle event and it works very well with twelve grands worth of prizes donated by surf and watersports shops and manufacturers.
So, i need a few things to make this work, listed below.
1)Contacts for shops and industry who would donate prizes. (in return for advertising). If a shop or manufacturer came up with some serious goods then they could even have this section of the weekend named after them.
2)Someone competent to help organise and run the event.
So if you can help with any of the above please email (sean@paddleroundthepier.com) or call me on 07917 410332
It would be great if we could all make this work, raise some donations and have a good laugh in the process.
Many thanks
Sean

Excellent news, we will have to get her registered for the main paddle!!! You could have a go yourself matey.

Something we can discuss at our post fish-o-thon meeting I hope Sean. I don't know if you've had time yet but MrB is our competitions man and I'm sure he'd like to contribute if you can have a chat with him. Wasn't his fault the weather was so lousy last one which he did an otherwise good job on.
A little liaison between you and he, and then pass the findings on to Tony for website inclusion would seem way forward if you agree. :)
whatever - count me in :clap2:

Yes, Mr B actually volunteered his services following the last SAS meeting. I think with the SAS's help the event will be a huge success. We still desperately need prize donations from the industry and local / national tackle shops.
I getting the posters and logos designed now then any helpers should meet me in a pub so i can explain the weekend fully.
Would be great to have all of you lot on board:)

My friend and co-paddle helper has offered a VIP tour of the Fisheries Patrol Vessel 'Watchful' as a prize. It will be quite an educational visit i would imagine. I will be on hand to take photo's if needed.

There are several 'paddle events' over the weekend. The Big 'Paddle Round the Pier' is around the West Pier.
The Malibu Pier to Pier Race is hardcore stuff and the guys and girls paddle from the east root of the Palace Pier out to sea, along to the West Pier and into Hove lawns where the retail village, live soundstage and other events happen.
If we get the numbers i reckon the fishing comp zone will be from the West Pier along to King Alfred. Althouh i would imagine the security patrols will only cover the areas by the marquees / lawns. Anglers pick their own spot.
Info about this years event (minus the fishing open) can be found at www.paddleroundthepier.com Check out the video link for a really good idea about the sillyness.

Hello mate i remember you and the lovely dog. Good to hear from you.
This is open to absolutly anyone as long as they pay the entrant fee (which goes to the charity) and raises sponsorship. Only sponsorship money earns the raffle tickets to win prizes. If you only pay the entrance fee then you win a trophy.
We dont mind if people fish with a stick, some string and a hand carved wooden hook:blink:

Seeing as the bikini comp is (unsurprisingly) generating some interest. We are currently talking to a very famous supermodel type. She is talking about sponsoring the event as she is launching a new bikini range. At this time im not allowed to say who it is but you lot should be impressed. Just hope the deal works out as she is rather lovely.

One question about the disallowed species: Does mackerel include Horse Mackerel (scad)?

Hello mate, Ive asked one of the lads organising the comp to give you confirmation on that mackie rule. I already have quite a few prizes for the comp raffle including the kayak. I really need the local tackle shops to get involved and donate some prizes. As soon as the posters and sponsor forms are finished the paddle team will go on the scrounge. Only a few days to go so here is the latest prize update.
Tropicana in Littlehampton have given a £20 voucher
Prime Angling have also donated a £20 voucher
Lagoon Bait and Tackle have done us proud by giving us a beach caster, fixed spool reel and a rod bag to put it all in.
So come on everyone, download a sponsor form, raise as much as you can and possibley win yourself the £600 Perception Kayak or one of the other prizes. http://www.paddleroundthepier.com/fishing_comp.html
The raffle will be held at 5.45pm after everyone has registered, handed in sponsorship money and received their raffle tickets. You will walk away with your prizes on the Saturday before the competition starts. So if you win a new beach caster, you will be able to fish the competition with it!!
The only exception is if you win the competition trophy or the Perception Kayak. If this is the case then you will have to come back to Sunday’s event by 4pm to be presented with your prize by Fat Boy Slim and other celebs. This also allows you to arrange a way of taking your prize home safely! Good luck!!
Dont forget, all money raised will go to the RNLI, The Rockinghorse Appeal and SurfAid International.

I can honestly say that the trophy for this event is the best I've ever seen for a fishing event - truely stunning piece of orginal sculpture in wood steel and silver that would grace any display cabinet in any house or mansion. :1a:
I'd like to take the opportunity here to thank the WSF, Lagoon, Prime, Tropicana, Tackle Bargains and The Tackle box for their prize fund support.
In particular I'd also like to thank WSF individual members who have also stepped forward with exceedingly generous support and I hope they don't feel embarrassed if I single them out :

Just an update on the prizes.
Sean and I sat down and added up almost £2000 worth of prizes we currently hold for the comp!! :yeah:
I can honestly say that the trophy for this event is the best I've ever seen for a fishing event - truely stunning piece of orginal sculpture in wood steel and silver that would grace any display cabinet in any house or mansion. :1a:
I'd like to take the opportunity here to thank the WSF, Lagoon, Prime, Tropicana, Tackle Bargains and The Tackle box for their prize fund support.
In particular I'd also like to thank WSF individual members who have also stepped forward with exceedingly generous support and I hope they don't feel embarrassed if I single them out :

yet another prize to add to the list Baits Direct have kindly donated £50 worth of bait :clap3::clap3::clap3:
that must now blow the 2 grand barrier in terms of prize value not bad id say for a friendly charity fish where everyone could be a winner

for those of you winners who received my tape pack and the c&r match clip board, would you mind pm'ing me and letting me know what you thought of the board, i'm looking to make these available, and personally i think they're better than the ian golds ones, sorry ian ! would be genuinly interested in your views, or of any improvements you think could be made,
please bear in mind that they are only prototypes, so new that even i don't have one ! they were made especially for the prtp comp, they started as a way to mount the tape to look better than a bag of tape, and kind of evolved!! you have the only three in existence at the moment !! i do plan on going further with the concept, but would just like to know about the boards for now.
thanks.

Afternoon all, due to the poor turnout at the PRTP Open. I have several valuable prizes left over that need to be won. The best way to do this is a silent auction for the goods listed below. All items are brand new and vever used. ALL MONEY RAISED GOES TO THE PADDLE FUND WHICH GETS SPLIT BETWEEN THE RNLI, THE ROCKINGHORSE APPEAL & SURFAID INTERNATIONAL
Please email me your name, address, tel and (sensible) bid amount and which item you want. Mid week i will state the highest bid on each item (not the bidder). There will be a reserve on some of the prizes.
Bidding will close Saturday 4th August 12pm. You can collect the item upon cleared payment (made to Paddle Round the Pier) or i can post at cost to the winning bidder upon cleared payment.

MY opinion on Lot 7, seeing as I made them.
I want sean to have them and if people do not agree with that then I will simply out bid anyone else on them, buy my own rigs back and give em to him anyway.
bloke worked hard enough I fail to see why he cannot use em

Hi all,
Does anyone know steve-no-fish. I cant pay in auction money until he pays up for the winning bid on the rod. I have tried emailing and PM with no reply.
Failing that, if someone else wants to match the bid then the penn rod and reel is yours plus postage at cost. NO MORE TIME WASTERS PLEASE.
Cheers
