Been watching a few videos on the net of different types of pendulum cast, mainly the high swing and flat arc. Now this has left me wondering what the difference is and does it really matter for fishing?

A decent flat pendulum or aerielised OTG is what i would try and learn for fishing as these can be done from most marks including being perched on top of a rock. They are also far more suited to casting waist deep in the surf

I would hate to try a high swing pendulum balanced on top of a rock.

The high swing get your lead pulling at 90 degrees to the rod almost instantaneously, and is best with rods like the Zziplex GSI, with a softish tip. With a very stiff tip, the same lead height will almost pull you off your feet. With this type of rod keep your angle between the rod and the drop to the lead small, and do not let the lead climb higher than the tip of the rod. With both methods, practice technique and timing before trying more power while learning.
