Whitley Bay peelers in early september??

Hi N/E community, I am heading to the Whitley Bay area at the start of September I was wondering if the peelers are still available live from the kelp or will I have to buy?? We are entering a shore competition on the Sunday and I would be gratefull if anyone knows of this competition and what is the prizes for it??.
