hi all,was just hoping i could get a few verdicts on these rods,am looking for a nice light rod as a second rod on the beach in the summer,i use a daiwa bass rod for lobbing out peeler for bass, i want a second rod that is light enough to hold all night if need be ,but mainly for banging out a sandeel as far as possible and then putting in the rest for ray, also want it to have good feel right through the rod,i already use tip tornado sports and kompressor sports off the rocks ,they are by far the best rods for fishing that i have used ,was hoping the lite would be the same, any help greatly appreciated, thanks:g:

i got a pair of the TTlite - one is 13ft and the other is 11ft10 (i think).
they word lite for me does not ring true, yeah, they dont weigh much but i wouldnt say they are 'lite' in terms of light fishing - i.e nothing like the zziplex powertex bass. that s a totally different species. nice bend to it that is so easy to cast. the tt lites sport the J curve that the TT range has & can blast a bait and 4oz a long long way.

if you can get one go for it, you wont be disapointed, but if i had the money i'd be looking at conoflex's new replacment for the source - fusion i think its called, 14ft wirh captive reducer taking it to 15ft, or the zzipy profile :notworthy , or 4500hpm or the original source. that is a cracking rod.

My wife uses the Century tip tornado lite for casting and fishing. Nice rods.

They will chuck a lead further then most people will ever cast and at one of our Tournaments i have seen one cast over 220 metres with a 125g lead.

have a look at the anyfish anywhere surf rod casts 3-5oz and superb bite detection. its 13ft + reducer and light enough to hold all day

what size of lead are you using and how far are casting?i probably wont be going any heavier than 4oz with it ,as i am already kitted out with heavy gear, have got 2 ttsports ,komp sport, nemesis slr ,zippy 50/50,daiwa 115 bass, plugging gear ,i just want a rod that will bang out a sandeel and then be happy catching small eyes while i bass fish, love using the tt sports, like the action casting etc but to heavy for that sort of fishing, wondered if the tt lites were the same action, previous post mentioned the powertex bass are they good for distance fishing, tippy or through action?would they have the guts to get a ray moving?,i know that i really need to handle the rods to get a feel for em,but with the right advice hopefully i will be looking in the right direction

I use a 13` TT Lite, excellent rod but its not what I expected,I think the best way to describe it is as a 4oz long range rod rather than a "softer" bass type rod. From your description of what you need it for I think it would be perfect-I will be taking mine on my smoothound trips this year :fishing:

I'm just buying a Penn Affinity Lite (2-4oz 13' 4") on the verbal recommendation of someone.

I'll let you know how it is - I have heard it "feels like" an Aspire130M (light to hold, bendable but "steely" and tippy) but - of course is a little less strong.

I have got a Penn Affinity. They are based on the PPT Pit Viper. I use mine in for light line fishing 2-3oz weight, they are a nice light rod, but IMO it's nothing near the same League as my Aspire 130m, which is a far better casting and long distance fishing rod.
They are two, totally different types of rod and i like them both in the right places at the right time.

so would the Aspire be better at casting (say) 80 grams than the Affinity ?
I know it would be better at (tournament casting) 125....and probably 100

don't know why I'm asking - be able to compare them myself soon.

PS as at a week ago Mainwarings had a special offer on PPT Pit Viper (may have sold the last of them by now - of course)

I would say the Penn Affinity would be better for 80g. I use 100g on mine for light beach work on clean beaches.

The Aspire works great with 125-150g. It will also cope well with 175g.

I think you will like the Affinity, it's a good rod for sport fishing with the smaller fish.

i know this is probably too late now.

i have used a tip sport for years and particularly like the j curve action they have.

i was looking for a long bass rod so bought a tip tornado ultra light.

thinking it woould have the same action with a thinner and lighter blank with fine tip.

wrong...

this is still a powerful rod even with a 20mm butt.. the action is further down the rod about 1/3 of the tip and under load you feel the but bend.

i found it still a little stiff for lobbing light leads close in. during the cast the rod hardly recognises that 3oz is there. this rod will however cast 3oz further than most can cast 5oz.
it is happier casting 4oz to compress the blank. 5oz is ok but just for easy casts. nothing fancy.

i now use mine for distance work with 3oz.

given the chance again i would buy the penn pit viper. the blank dimensions are the same but with a more tippy action.

Thanks, mickey p. and dabcatcher I am guessing I have made a right choice (for me) on rod.

if you have spare money (hah !) dabcatcher note that
. . . as at about 10 days ago ago Mainwarings (of Swansea) had a special offer on PPT Pit Viper (may have sold the last of them by now - of course)

Hi
I've got a TT Ultralite and I agree with what previous posters have said it is a pokey rod I use mine with 3-5 oz and it copes easily.
I have a Zziplex Profile and a 3500S and for me these are pigs to cast.
I'd better explain.
I'm in a wheelchair and the Zzippys do something to my balance when I cast I believe it's something to do wit the soft tips or the way they load.

I've tried a TT Sport and thats way easier to cast for me considering that it's a stiff rod.
I 've wondered all along about the difference between the TT range of rods particularly between the TT Lite and Ultralite.

Does anyone have any views on the Century CCC LD's

I had the same dilemma and so I went to the shop to have a look. I've got a couple of Century rods and a couple of Zziplex's so I'm not a brand loyalist.

I wanted an Ultra-Lite but came out with a Profile. It seemed a better balanced rod compared to the UL which felt tip heavy. It did cost an extra £100 or so though. The Zziplex has a very fast recovery due to it being 100% carbon, so it's probably not best suited to soft baits. The Century may be better in that regard.

I haven't fished with the Profile yet because I'll use it as a summer rod, but for casting it feels sweet. England International Steve Morris has used his to great effect on the casting circuit.

I'm fairly sure that with buying Century or Zziplex you won't be making a mistake.
