Just a quick note to sat there are still a few rays (small-eyed) at Borth. Had 4 to 6lb tonight on squid. In contrast to Tywyn the doggers were much thinner on the ground.
Nothing else apart from a nice dab at range at low tide.

John. What sort of conditions did you get them in? Does it need to be flat calm for small-eyeds? Do they ever feed during the day? (I know they do up east but they fish in coffee not proper, nice, clear water like we do).
Cheers,
Rhod.

You ideally want a moderate surf for the rays. Flat calms at Borth and similar beaches tend to see the fish further out as there's not enough food being disturbed. Very rough conditions don't produce rays although you just might see a decent bass (not that I have lately!). Sandeel and squid both work (and will take bass), but I have had them on mackerel and worm baits too. They can be surprisingly close in - 30-50yds sometimes, feeding in only 18" of water.
