View Full Version : Puerta Vallarta, Mexico
I am off to Puerta Vallarta on 21st April for a couple of weeks and could do with some pointers of what I can catch in the area. I will hopefully get out on a boat or two and will be taking a telescopic rod for some shore fishing. Obviously on a boat all the gear and bait etc will be supplied but what should I take with me for shore fishing?
I have various plugs, shads etc, are they worth taking?

Cascars, have a look at www.mexfish.com There's heaps of info on there, including lots on Puerto Vallarta and archived fishing reports. Looking at the old reports for the time your going to be there, the offshore fishing could be a bit hit or miss as you are going at a time when the water temps/conditions will be in transition. However, the inshore fishing could still be smoking!!
As well as lures etc, I would be tempted to try and take some kind of gear for livebait fishing from the shore if you can? Maybe some pike bungs, hooks etc plus little sabiki jig rigs for catching sardina livebaits. You may be able to beg/buy some livebaits off the locals, but I'd pack the sabikis just in case! Buy a bucket out there to keep a few in, although I'd be tempted to take a portable air-pump with you if you've got one...
