zziplex bass rod:)
tip tornado lite - have seen casts of over 200 yards with a 50g lead on one of them
just got a zzippy bass myself - let you know what i think when the casting season starts (if its the same as last year - the rod will be good and i'll be crap)
I second the TT Lite .. a sweet rod for casting 3-4oz
Slightly above your budget but can be got for around £185, well worth going the extra few quid

Try that. Excellent rod and worth it second hand if it stays below £130 IMHO
I'll agree with Mark on that, I've got one and its fantastic:clap2: :clap2: :clap2:
ITS a very good long range 3oz rod ...

I have a Zziplex powertex Bass rod and it is a great casting tool
I also have a pair of Penn Extreme Beach 2 Light rods - they are 'softer' but cast very well and are nice to play fish on.
I'm about to get a Penn Affinity Light ( I have read positive comments about the Penn Pit Viper, but they are being replaced by the Affinity range and are hard to find...even , or especially, secondhand)
Don't go by Tournament Casting standards - many 125g casters use the full (150 g) tournament rods for the lighter weights (even for 100 g sometimes) . For example they'll use the TTR rahter than the TT Lite . . . . . .and you may even find ones specifically intended for casting 75g are more tournament than long-range fishing.
Line?
If for tournament it has to be 0.25 mm diameter ; if for fishing, you can go down to 8lb (0.25mm 'standard' copolymer, 0.21-0.22mm 'thin' line) over clean beaches but need to check every retrieve for abrasion.
You can use superbraid - especially if the rod is not "poker-stiff" - and it feels very nice with a light rod.
If you use it with a multiplier, I'd suggest using one with a lot of magnetic braking (5500 CT Mag Elite or 525 Mag Xtra with extra magnets in) until you're quite happy that a backlash would be rare-indeed, and don't go too slim on the braid: the advantage is the lack of stretch so 0.25 mm (25lb) is a better bet than 0.15 (18lb) . With a fixed spool, you can go as fine as you like.
I have recently bought an imax 2 stroke 4 in fixed spool version for using with braid for light beach and estuary work. Got to say I am very impressed with it, I wanted something 13ft with a nice tippy action, good bite detection and enough power to blast a blue top impact lead and small clipped bait a long way when necessary. It is all of those things at a good price too.

was looking at the powertex on the net last night, looked a pretty good rod.had'nt thought about the imax so i'll ponder that one a bit.did wonder about the tip tornado ultra lite as i already have a tt match.
as for lines, don't intend to do tournament at the moment, but hey,you never know.(especially if mintos talks me into it:unsure: )the multi would be a shimano calcutta 400bsv,not exactly known to have a lot of braking,so may have to work my way down slowly.
:)
you could always look at the zippy profile

a tip tornado ultra light will put 3oz further than most can put 5oz.
it is also happy with a full pendulum with 4oz. and with a blank of only 20mm dia butt.
i,m sure theres one in the classifieds for £100.

I've got an old 400s Calcutta - very well behaved if you click most of the six brake blocks on. I'm sure the bsv is as well behaved. You can use it with any thickness of line you like (from (0.20 mm mono up to 0.45...for less range, of course....and braid of a thickness you like).
It's a lovely (strong and smooth) little reel - the only way I could 'fault' it would be retrieve rate...especially when nearly empty, of course.

i use a 5500 mag elite on my ultra light, with 12lb line. just changed the plates to sunset orange. a lovely looking little reel that casts as well as and 6500.
they are a little hard to get hold of now though.
I have the imax 2/4. DOes what it says on the tin and in budget
