lets please remember that these are two diffrent things all together the people who cast at tournaments dont do it because they want to go to the beach and try and wind out a bait 270 yds:unsure: they are doing it because its a diffrent sport all together. for fishing most will be using diffrent rods much slower reels.:yucky: i went for lessons on how to get a technique and cast safetly,i have not given up fishing but i now prefer to go casting rather than fishing ......my point is that anglers wishing to improve will benefit from lessons thats a fact:giveup:  ,,,,,,,,all tournament casters realise that they wont cast a baited rig as far as a lead there not stupid:) :) ,,so it should not become all about i can do this or that but for each person to enjoy his or her prefferd sport if your fishing go catch that big one :clap3: if your casting go for it get that new pb ...........:clap3: :clap3:

just my thoughts of course

my last outing i did both and was well past my marks on my line so next event new pb fingers crossed

learning to cast correctly means that less effort is required to cast to where you want therefore hopefully making fishing less strenuous and no injuries trying to self or others

Agree with the sentiments but I think most people on here realise the difference between a tournament cast and a fishing cast.

Im trying to improve my casting to be able to put a bait further out into the gullies and tide runs on certain venues where a longer chuck is required. Whilst I enjoy practice casting and the satisfaction of sending the lead that little bit further, Im practising in order to help my fishing. I use my fishing rods and reels and perform exactly the same OTG cast that I use on the beach.

However, I do 100% respect and admire those who have the ability and dedication in order to throw a lead a hell of a long way.

I went to a casting club to improve my distances on the beach as some of the east anglian beaches give you a better chance if you can put a lead out further than the next guy.

Now I have a foot in both camps - I still fish BUT I also go casting as its an enjoyable day or afternoon out - lots of tips on casting AND fishing plus some fine comedians to liven up the proceedings.

At the end of the day its what ever takes your fancy - some guys fish, some guys cast & fish & some just cast - what ever floats your boat

Did I improve my distance - from 105m on a court to 170m in September - I will let you make up your own minds if you think its worth the effort over the summer. I know 170 over grass ISN'T 170 with bait on the beach but neither is 105m!

there is always one village idiot,, :g: :g: :g:

as my post said you do what you want ill do what i want its not about you doing better than me or me doing better than you but put your glasses on its under the casting thread so dont try and turn this into another thread about you and as for your intrest dont really want it take it to the end of shoreham arm attach it to your much superior rig and do with it what you will

as for the intellegent amonst us i hope you understand my 1st post and understand i wish each person to enjoy what they do thats what its all about

very good post indeed dave:clap3: , i rarely do much sea fishing these days unless i go forign, but am am still very involved in corse fishing,, casting is back top of my list again and totally diff from fishing. I did a bit years ago and stopped but picked it up again last year and forgot how good a feeling i get from wanging a lead down the field into PB territory :clap2: its just a shame the sport is not more widely recognised as a spot in its own right as it should be :clap3:

the amount of people interested in how far you can whack it when they look at your gear on the shore is amazing
you can almost hear them saying "go on impress me " and some do lol
if i knocked a lead out 100yds + it would strip the bait from my hook
risk a snap off and might be away from feeding fish
at times i might stick just a lead on and try some thumps if the fishings slow or to warm up etc but if its fish im after and i will be out for a few hours im happy with 80-100 yds
i can honestly say ive never came across an angler fishing more than 130 /50 with a bait and thats way short of tourney casting
yet to listen to some "send it to the horizon" you would think that common place
on the beach and from my experience it simply isnt yet theres uys tthere with set ups capable of 200yds
if youve a good style then a days fishing will be easy on you and if you can get out to were the fish are theres no need to go further
ive seen bad styles casting great distances because of expensive rod reel s but clearly working at their limmit not the equipments
theres many things to take into consideration and on the beach its were are the fish and can i get to them and that might be a drop of the harbour wall or out into a gulley its good to know each is within your reach
