Its time I started to look at booking another trip .I fancy a change so am thinking of booking into the Senagambia Hotel , lst two weeks of November.
Following my dedication to relaxing, I will book a couple of boat trips when I,m out there but spend most of my time on the hotel beach with a beer.
Has anyone fished from the beach in front the Senagambia and is it any good ?
Probably bait fish on bottom most of the time with a bit of plugging when I feel energetic.
Any one tried and any success?

HI Grumpy, Senegambia Hotel is about 200 yds along from Holiday Beach Club where I stayed last November. We had one 1 1/2 hour session there before sunset and caught 4 Captainfish to 6 lb. Also post has appeared today from crocodileteeth who fished the same stretch this last fortnight. I prefer to fish away from the crowds. As for plugging, I believe the rougher ground to be more productive. A good spot was pointed out to me near Tanje.

Thanks mate , will book up next week.
No problem with Palm Grove , just fancied a change of scenery.
So long as a waiter (or wife) will bring out a cold one I,m happy.

Hi Grumpy - I've spent 4 weeks over the last 2 yrs staying in same area as Senegambia. Fishing for me in that area was disappointing but I did see people catching Captain Fish this year tho they were only small. I read somewhere that night fishing there was supposed to be productive but we never got to try it despite all best laid plans (too many Julbrew) If nothing else it's pretty central so you can head North or South from there. The hotel looks good! Havent stayed there but walked through it many times. Good reviews on holidaystruths.co.uk.

Checked it out as best I can.I want a relaxing hol , will spend hours with a beer in my hand watching others run around. So long as I can catch a couple of fish I,m not worried about size or amount , it really is the being there that counts.
Seems a nice hotel , naturally I will report back how it goes , and how cold the beer is , can be a big problem sometimes!!!
Will have a look at Holidaystruths.

Not a thing I make public often , but I do a bit of Birdwatching as well as fishing.
The Senagambia is on the "must do" list because of the gardens. Will check out others in the area as there is a pipe dream of a lads week in 2008.

Grumpyman - I'm staying at the Senegambia hotel 5/11/08 for 2 weeks
Never tried the beachcasting but have now purchased a rod & reel to
"have a go".
This will be my 6th visit to Gambia - have always done boat fishing at Denton Bridge.
If this is of any use, let me know and I can give you more details.

Hi grumpy,
I’ve stayed at the SeneGambia 5 out of the last 6 years that I’ve been to the Gambia. It’s a decent hotel that has improved dramatically last year.
I found that if you can suffer travelling with Thomas Cook, the deals are far cheaper that with most of the other tour operators, especially if you need single rooms.
As for the fishing outside of the hotel, I’ve tried it many times without too much success. You’ve also got to contend with people swimming, and the constant hassle of the local bumsters, all of who are expert fisherman and are a captain of a local fishing boat.
Take my advice and get a taxi or a local guide and go somewhere where you can get a bit of peace and quiet, you don’t get bothered too much if you fish at Radio Sid or in the south down near Tanje or Paradise Beach and the fishing is loads better too!
Oh, and you’re right, the bird watching is excellent in the SeneGambia, although in November, the Gambia is still very lush and green so the birds will not be so concentrated in the hotel gardens as they would be in February, which is the height of the dry season.
Have a great time
Chris

I will be at the Senegambia Hotel for 2 weeks from 5/11/2008 (1st time at this Hotel) but have been to gambia 6 times at various places.
Usually done boat fishing from Denton Bridge but have now gone out and brought a beachcaster etc. Might need some help and tips on beachcasting or if you need any help with a boat, please tell me.
My son has had a 60lb stingray, both of us have caught Captain fish over 30lb and plenty of other species (no tarpon yet).
Like the idea of a beer on the beach but I have not yet managed to train the wife to "fetch" 30 years of marriage and still in training.
Give us a shout !!

Looks like you will have a spruced up Senegambia Hotel as I've just spoken to the guide Assan and he says its shut three months for renovations. I was hoping to book in there (going early July for a week) but am expecting to now stay at the Kairaba Hotel instead. John.
