hello thorny,
right I joined in december 2 months ago, and will be there next sunday,
1 the reel will be fine I use mag elites normaly, line is fine, and so is the shockleader, as for the leads, they cast in metric, so 125gm, 150gm etc, these you can get on the day and will be stamped with a number that you will be given, eg, mine is 46,
2 rod will be fine, it's a nice rod.
3 ain't the best caster either, but you got to start somewhere. If you join on the day eg become a member, thats about a tenner, you get free tuition and lesson, everybody is very helpful no matter how bad you are,
4 yes you can turn up on the day, last sunday of the month, kicks off at about 0900, I am always late coming from glos so get there at about 1000, field is on the cowbridge road about 5km from bridgend.

depends as to finish time, you can go when you like, but they cast upto mid afternoon. Come along it is very addictive, only 5 yds off the 200, so cant quit yet. You probably will be suprised at how well you do.

Hi fellas good to hear you will be joining us on sunday

Your gear sounds just the job, the line used must be High vis both leader and main line. this is so when we all walk down to retrieve the leads the line can be seen and not stepped on a dragged down the field also if there is a crack off we can find it easily. Please follow the link to the surfcast wales site where Carl has put on a very informative casting equipment page. look forward to meeting you

i would take a rod rest less chance of getting a rod trodden on plus its somewhere to rest the rod whilst sorting out a birds nest
