Has anyone in the Merseyside area been for casting lessons? If so I was wondering how they found it, what did they do, how much it cost and where did they go. I am really keen to get the best out of my Abu Esprit and 6500 mag elite. I still get the occasional crack off / birds nest and am not casting the distance that I should be able to. Any advice would be much appreciated. TIA - John

Hi John,
4th March North West Surfcasting starts at Cockerham, get down there and see the likes of the Penetrator and all the other BIG hitters in action. Sure to pick up some great tips. Casting instructors are there as well so come along and enjoy a the day.

Thanks for the info, what time does it start and where about in Cockerham is it? I have had a look at the map and it is only an hour away from Liverpool so I think it would be a few hours well spent.

Exit junction 33 M6

At the roundabout take the first left

After 1.1 miles turn right into Cockerham road

After 1.6 miles turn right at the ‘T’ junction

After 500 yards turn left at the ‘T’ junction towards Pilling/Blackpool

After approx 2 miles Sand Villa Farm is on the left and you turn right onto a track just past the

farmhouse.

This is the front field and the one we use most of the year,

Cheers, I'll be there barring any more injuries. I've done my back doing bent over rows. Hopefully It'll be ok by the 4th.

How much does it cost for membership or is it pay as you cast ?

I think 1st year is £15 and £5 per comp
you can day cast for £8.
are you try to build power for casting dont do bent over rows
do seated rows and lat pull downs and dead lifts
two sets 5 reps max you want to be failing on the 4th rep if you get 5 its to lite
this will build a strong back and give good core power..
ps i used to do power lifting..

if you fancy a day out or just a couple of hours to get help with your casting come to nw casting. you will find help and advice given freely. you will see little kids to big hitters, - newbies to oldies, [even an old chukka] available. when or if the weather is good its even better . the craic is good and you will meet people who travel from afar for a good day out .

Dave,

That looks cheap enough.

I'm not doing weights for casting, just general really and It's all at home not at the gym. I'm only using dumbbells whilst being at home, until I move in to another house where all my proper gear is at. I do miss the lat pull downs though.
