Um....that's always going to be a bit of a compromise. Certainly Mauritius and the Seychelles both have superb 4 and 5 start hotels. And some of those on the Seychelles, on the outer islands, are in idllyic surroundings.
Have you settled on one of those locations though? If not, and starting with the fishing side, there're some interesting reports on this particular forum - http://www.caranx.net/forums/index.php?showforum=10. But have you any thoughts on specifically what type of fishing or what species you want to try?
I guess for instance, if you're considering Bali, some of the South Sea islands, a little further away, would offer some superb combinations.

Dave,
To be honest im open to suggestions regarding location.
Must be a nice hotel to keep the other half happy and pampered while im fishing.Fishing wise id be happiest wandereing the beach with a fly rod or lure fishing for Jacks,Bones etc.To be honest im not overly fussed about going out on the boat but if the opportunity is there itd be a bonus.
Incidently what would be the best times of year for that part of the world?

I realise I've 'drifted' a bit from Asia but one of those vast areas that, for me, is on my 'to do' list is the South Pacific - places like Tahiti, Fiji or the Cook Islands. Although there're similarly a range of ex French colonies. I think they'd certainly fit into what you're describing. And some of the hotels, whilst not your 'standard' luxury hotels, that you'd find in any major city, look idyllic. Here's just one, as an example - http://www.aitutakilagoonresort.com/ - on the Cook Islands.
Those sorts of areas are, fishwise, year round venues although I guess, for the inshore species, perhaps September to May would possibly be better.
Drawback? I guess there's always a drawback. In terms of flight times you're looking at around 7 hours flying time from the West coast of the 'States.
If it's a area that appeals then it's worth 'googling', something like 'South Pacific, Bonefish' or perhaps looking at quality hotels through something like http://www.concierge.com/cntraveler/ - the Conde Nast web site. Just a couple of urls I picked up, more to do with the fishing, that might be of interest are - http://www.ck/fishing.htm and http://www.emeraldwateranglers.com/fiji.html.
Every success with your search.

Bermuda is a popular honeymoon destination with decent fishing (beautiful island too)
Hello. I am living in Bali. I am a fisherman adventure guide here. After reading your ideas, I might have a good spot for the both of you.
Start it off in Bali. I have a ton of spots that would be great for you both. I would need to know more about your taste before we narrowed them down.
Then for the fishing side of things. Head out to west Sumbawa. There is a great hotel located out there. It is very relaxing and is a wonderful small resort. The food is great, beautiful rooms, scenic views, and a quite caring hotel staff. If you wanted to spice up the activity side of things for the wife while there we could find some Yoga, Pilates, and massage for her to take part in during the day while you fish.
Now for the best part. The surrounding area has some world class shore fishing for Gaint Jack Trevally, snappers, and multiple other game fish. All the spots are accessible from the hotel. In fact one of the best early morning spots is the channel that lies directly in front of the hotel grounds! Step out of your room and into the fish. I was just there with a guy from California. He had his fly rod with him and I guided him into some serious GT from a few of the reef passes at low tide.
Anyway, if you go out there I suggest not staying too long. The wife might get a little bored unless we set it up pre-trip with planned daily activities for her. Not a huge problem. 5 or more days out there would really make for a great trip and experience.
If your interested send me a message and we can talk about more. If you want to use my serivces fine. If not I would be happy to point you in the right direction.
Cheers,
Cyrus

Just back to one of your original possibilities, the Seychelles. I guess you could consider spending perhaps part of your honeymoon on the main island, where the capital Mahe is, and then several days on one of the outer islands. Places like Bird Island are on the edge of the 'plateau'.
Several companies, including Frontiers, do run specific Flats fishing trips to those outer islands. But I suspect that you would also be able just to book an inter-island flight (or 'boat ride') together with the hotel accommodation independently and do your own thing fish-wise.
Just to get a feel for the place, specifically in terms of the fishing, I know there's a photo report on Henry Gilbey's web site and there's also one on Alphonse on this - http://www.alphonseislandfishingco.com/hotel.html. I'd need to check, in terms of Alphonse, with one of our Club members who's going down there shortly. I have a feeling that, later in the year, it's closing for a major refurbishment.

Just back to the last of your friends original suggestions - Mauritius. The island does have a range of hotels covering all standards and obviously you should easily be able to get a package, including flights, from somewhere like Madrid.
As to the fishing there's a fairly lengthy thread in the African posts on this url - http://www.worldseafishing.com/forums/showthread.php?t=22957 - and there's also another that's worthreading - http://www.caranx.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=2921. There're references in both to a local shore (and inshore) guide, Dominique Thévenau. Might be worth contacting if you decide to go there. His web site is http://www.fishingandhuntingsafaris.com/. Whilst the main focus does appear to be the Giant Trevally they do also target Bonefish.
