Having glanced over Aprils seal strangler, em sorry sea angler magazine it seems the makers of lazy lug are bringing us lazy RAG.

Having tried the lug I know its guff and wouldn't touch it or the rag when it comes out. I loathe even using farmed rag, let alone preserved stuff that smells like dettol.

I just wonder where they get the worms to preserve them, I'm guessing the rag are gonna e farmed, but do they farm the lug, if they do why cant we buy live farmed lug? :secret:

If they are dug, isn't that putting some strain on bait supplies from somewhere, good lug are becoming more and more difficult to come by without digging and pickling them.

Tight lines to all out this weekend - affraid my rods are grounded due to a house flit! :uhuh: :uhuh:

you would have thought in this day and age with all the technology

they could come up with a bait/baits thats man made and eco friendly that actually catches fish, and i mean a bait as good as the real thing

what with todays conservation

yes, but both those fish will happily take mackerel on its own. you should really try with no tip baits on.

you could probably have saved yourself the expense of the lug.

next time only put lug on one hook and tip another with mackerel. then you,ll see what they are after.

i have loads of ..lazy rag about 12in long and 1in wide. they just lay in my trays of water all day until i,m ready to use them. been there weeks now. lazy gits.

Even better fish a wishbone rig offering the two baits side by side, the acid test to finding out what fish want on the day. I did that with that greeny coloured Smartbait stuff, after seeing an article on it for dab fishing on th Sussex coast in Total Sea Fishing. The results were unanimous Smartbait 1 - 13 Yellowtail lug on the first session and similar results were observed until i used all of the green cr@p up and decided it was a waste of money!

I suspect the Lazy lug are Dutch according to Dragon baits who get their fresh(tanked lug) from holland the worms are dredged with a type of huge vacuum apparently the sea is only a couple of metres deep around a lot of the coast so the dredgers can work on all states of the tide 24 hours a day (I wonder how long their stocks will last under that kind of commercial pressure!!)
I wonder if any Dutch forum members can confirm whether this is true??

I doubt they'll be trying too hard mate, especially when it seems that artificial or preserved baits are designed to catch more anglers than fish

Maybe it's just an idea I got in my head but I always thought that rag are for movement when there on your hook. and that lug were for putting out smell much like mackerel maybe I am in the wrong here but that’s what I have learned over the past years. I can’t see this lazy rag takeing of at all fresh rag always catch more fish in my book I have tried lazy lug and don’t like it. If you dig your own bait you will know that fresh live bait is always better for the top fish like cod fresh works a gem. Tho I have a tip for you if you do dig your own bait lug that you have been using that’s going off and is starting to stink but is still living work's a gem on flatfish they love it :secret:

I've heard that most of these worms are sourced from Holland ................... so it's good for bait as well then! ......... lol. :)
No wonder its lazy then!
Utter tosh!

trouble is i dont live near the coast and both me and my mate work full time. none of our local tackle shops sell live worm and the only place we can get it is from a coast shop. that leaves us with two options. frozen runnydown (£4.99 per 10) or lazy lug (£4.99 for 30). big differance in price per worm. dont get me wrong, id rather have live anyday of the week, but because we both work day shift we cant alwasys get up the coast to get it. have mail ordered live lug before but half of them come dead and mashed because of bad handleing in transport. so thats why i dont mind using it to bulk out my hook bait. rag aint to bad when mail orderd though, coz they are tough lil buggas.

Runny down £4.99! Are you buying it from Harrods mate? This bloke from Blackpool gets some quality stuff, and its only £3.50 a score of 10. These worms are like mini snakes, no joke some are nearly a foot long. Other options would be to use frozen peeler, squid and tiger prawn. I find these baits are just as good for larger fish in the winter. Often whiting and Dab can be caught on just mackerel and squid strips alone.
