right guys had an idea anybody fancy organising a meet for steetley pier ??
if we can get a meet sorted for mid-end march we could have a bit of a comp between forum members ..........i am prepared to put up some prize money if we get it off the ground ,,,,,say £100 ........so just turn up for a few hours fishing in daylight and go home with a bit of cash in your pocket .........you could even put up £1 a member and add it to prizes ...........:g: just a thought ....
look forward to your replies .......good idea ??? bad idea?????
please be gentle .....lol

Great idea P.I. but is there not a better venue? I dont relish leaving my car in that area, unless anyone can tell me where it's safe to park.

I think it's a great idea Ian :clap2: but £100 out of your own pocket is maybe a bit much don't you think?
Why not charge anglers £10 to enter on the day and then pay out the entrance fee as prize money? There should be a fair few interested in that. Also the only problem I can see is that everyone will want to fish the very end of the pier where the best catches come from, unfortunately there's not a great deal of room for anglers here, maybe ten at best?
Do we ban people from the end or draw pegs?
As I say this is a good idea, let's get our heads together and get this one arranged.
I will do my best to make it.
We now have a part of the forum that is dedicated to meets and charity events, this is near the top of the page.
I will leave this post where it is for a couple of days until our members get used to the new forum style and then move it to the correct part of the North East forum at a later date. J.V.:)

i'v never been to steetly but have heard a lot about the parking issues...i wouldnt feel settled leaving my car there either...is there not anywhere close where would be suitable to park and walk to the pier?

i think its a great idea but as people have said the mark is a little bit on the iffy for parking if we made the comp a little later on could have some great fun flatty bashing maybe go of the total length of fish to save killing them?
well organise a meet bus ,meet at a positive venue or safe parking and bus takes ya there and drop off, then pick up ,few quid extra but safe car
well just a thought ,better than sitting in the house

the meet is a great idea but 100 out your own money is to much get a meet sorted and charge the lads a entry fee like dave said
great idea i'm up for that but like the lads say everyone pays £10 and there's your prize money (maybe a different venue though a beach somewhere would be good:)
Yeah its a very good idea, like people have said im not willing to risk my car getting broke in to or damaged. Maybe suggest other marks and have a vote on it????
Im up for it
Kev
I suggest middleton!!!
i would be up for it but not at steetly as its a long walk home.

Great idea Ian ...........BUT ................I think there could be a better, secure, and safer venue than steetley............also if you charge every one £1 entry fee ...........you could donate entry fee to charity.
i take i that you been there before x cast lol
yes i have been there before. I also have friends who live on the estate near steetly.

i thought during the day there was still security on ?????..............lets get it going
runswick would be a good venue.room for 100's of anglers.ample safe parking right next to the beach.public toilets open 24hrs.clean beach, mixed ground rough ground, deep kelp filled gulleys and scaur to fish over.all available at this venue and some nice fish being caught over the last couple of months.£5 entry fee including heaviest fish.£2 optional superpool for heaviest bag.£1 donation to RNLI.
just an idea
i agree with ringer runswick would be a great place to meet and i thought there was no security guard at steetly anymore
great idea but what about this parking lark and y not charge 10quid to enter leave your pocket alone matey.
Got to agree with ringer. Runswick more choice for fishing.
ringer s venue will be a better idea, let some of the northern lads sample one of yorkshires finest venues, much safer also

nah mate no security at all now even the hut is getting done in i chanced it thursday and was ok till about 10pm ish but there was only 3 cars there, a load of cars is a different matter. Anyone know a none angler to watch the cars for a few hours £2 a car should make a few quid.
Think Runswick is a good idea or how about Sandsend to Whitby, again plenty of room but maybe fewer fish? Personally I would prefer most of the `prize` money to go to charity as the PR potential is always welcome for us anglers and it would make it more appealing to the less experienced/successful among us. Says the man whose best codling this season was 8 ozs lol! Whatever is decided I`m up for it and if anyone needs transport from Stockton lmk.

Why not pick more than 1 venue and then the people who cant make to 1 can go to the other, on the same day obviously

nopt had much luck of middleton but catch whitie every time i go roker and steetley seem to be there all year around basicly
I really wanna be a part of this meet and im kinda restricted to local piers (hartlepool). I like the idea of a few venues to choose from, i say if this is going to happen lets go big with this.
e.g couple of venues, prizes you all get the picture

To save you the bother Ian just put me a cheque in the post..... pmsl.... Chris
Gotta agree with runswick, bit of something for everyone. Could have all the rocks on the left, round to kettleness point. The gives you kelp filled gullies, hard ground, plenty of sand beach and a bit of mixed ground. Also a maxxive free car park this time of year and toilets etc. Theres usually a bit more colour in the water down runswick aswell so not so bad for fishing daylight.

i havnt decided whether to go with this or not yet .
but, if its going to be a meet then whats the point of being spread all over the northeast. thats just like any saturday night when we are all out at different venues but not seeing each other.
i would go for a venue, wherever. where everyone is on the same stretch of beach or pier. that way we could actually meet, fish alonside each other and have a chat with people we rarely or may have never seen.
even choosing a venue where some may be around the corner in another bay means your not having a meet.
you dont need loads of fish or a prolific venue to hold a comp. if theres only 3 fish there then thats what your competing for. yes a bag of fish would be nice but its not neccessary.
i,d think the most important issue is getting together and having fun with the added incentive of it also being a comp.
to be honest its not a meet if one guy is on his own on a far flung rock somewhere in yorkshire.

:clap3: :clap3: :clap3: :notworthy :notworthy :notworthy Well said Bill im with you 100% there. Whole point of a meet is well as the name says meet one another and have some good old crack and maybe a fish or two personaly the money means nothing to me, it's the fishing and the good crack i enjoy. I would be quiet happy fishing a nice comfortable spot for flatties or anything that comes along as long as theres good banter .

Yeah me too, its seems logical really that thats the way it should happen. Better than being spread out al over the country.
Lets get it organised then how about putting a poll up with the venues on????

Ok, from reading through this thread the venues people would like to fish are Steetley pier, Runswick bay, Sandsend, Middleton pier, Roker pier or alternatively a competition with boundaries from Whitby West pier to Steetley pier.
I will put a poll up tonight, can anyone give me some dates to vote for to?

Dave i think a north yorksire meet would be good as we have all ready had meets at other venues and yorkshire was next on the list would kill two birds with one stone.

Ok, a poll is on the way:)
We will sort out the venue first and then decide a date and time. I think we will be looking at the end of March or early April now though.
Had an idea regarding a comp ..... as it,s going to be a meet as well ,as comps are serious and you don,t get to meet everyone in case you miss a fish, how about silly prizes like... first fish , smallest fish, best photo posted after a vote on here, biggest fish kept and also booby prizes.... as i said nothing serious cos it takes the fun out of a meet... I know Ian started this as a comp thread but the way things have snowballed along it seems to be going the other way into more of a meet so i think alternative prize awards would be more fun ...... you still get the crack with the chance of a bonus prize added...... just a thought anyway.. Chris
