hmm my dad used to swear by kipper back in the days and had a 16lb and 12lb cod on it aswell which is unheard of now a days.

Think I'll definatly give it a go for flounders though

Summertime on the Essex sunshine coast, kipper was one of the best baits for big bass when I lived there. It also worked at felixstowe and northwards to the mouth of the river.

Funny you should mention craster. I fished off the pier their last year and an old boy who lived there told me to try it. It did catch some small coalies and a couple of flounders on just kipper, but then i have seen a flounder caught of Warkworth pier on a piece of Sweetcorn. Try experimenting with it. I find on the Northeast coast a big slice of sprat is a good tipping bait for flounder and dabs ion winter, and those small squid used whole have there day aswell. Perhaps its a bit expensive for bait though, Mackerel is free in summer!

Either use them whole on a pennel rig or slice them into 1cm section for tipping off with. They are best whipped on lightly with bait elastic as they can fly off otherwise.
