It would seem that Bradwell has suffered from the recent storms and has become unfishable for the amount of anglers who want to fish the return leg. I have been in discusion with Alan and we have come up with Landguard Point Felixstowe. OK it is not in Essex but, the road there is all dual carriageway and about 1 hr 13 minutes from Dartford ( according to Local Live) thait is about the same distance the other side of the Thames as Dungie. There is at least one and a half miles of fishing beach, the big bonus is that it is deep water and, at the moment, is fishing well. There is also lots of pubs and cafes in the area. We have had trouble in finding a suitable venue in Essex due to the fact that the coast line in Essex is all salt and mud flats, except of course for the holiday areas, I feel that this is the best answer with the demise of Bradwell.
How does everybody feel about this.

Felixstowe is easy enough to find, from Dartford its M25, A12 to the Ipswich roundabout then third exit onto the A14.
Im hopeing that somebody will put further directions to Landguard Point.
To those that have decided to change the venue from Bradwell I say Thank You.

OK from A14 onwards.

Follow the road ahead over the Orwell Bridge

Keep going until you reach next roundabout approx 7 -8 miles

Turn right to docks (all signposted)

Follow this road (approx 1 1/2 miles) until you reach next roundabout

Straight Over next roundabout ( Mc Donalds on left for reference point )

Over level crossing and a short distance later you come to traffic lights

Turn right at traffic lights, follow road ahead approx 1 mile

Turn left for Languard point - miss this turn you're in the container area.

Follow road ahead as far as you can go and you will end up in Viewing area

Big car park here with views out over river - that's it

I had started hearing at the weekend that Bradwell could be a problem, When Urly and I went into Porters to get bait on Saturday morning we asked him about a backup venue and he said that there were problems with Bradwell and we should think of changing now, he suggested a number of places including Landguard, said it was fishing well and because the road was better would take about the same time to get there as it would to get to Bradwell. Also after your post last night confirmed what he had said I PM'd Alan and we spent the evening discussing the option. The only other Essex beach which could have comfortably supported the numbers without the need for long casting or which may have been plagued by holiday makers etc. was East Mersea, but no one new how that was fishing, I had heard rumours that it was fishing well and that it was useless. Landgurd nearly always produces at all states of the tide, so It was obvious in the end. Trouble with Essex is it has to many small secluded beaches in the inlets a estuary's, great when you are on your own with a mate or two but 40 to 50 anglers, difficult. I hope everyone is happy with Felixstowe, if you have any comments, post em.

It's there, or the "Sea life centre" on Southend sea front, and I believe that'll be closed on the 15th of April

The problem with Southend is that would become a flounder match with crab and maddies being the only bait needed. Unless yopu are going to dig 200-300 maddies it wouldn't be financially worth anybody fishing the match.
Where we had the Essex meet could easily fit 40-50 people but as above its a flounder match, plus its not really fair to expect the North Essex fishermen to journey all the way down here.

Don't forget that there is a South East/East Coast meet at Felixstow, Landguard Point on the 31st March, an ideal chance to try the venue out:unsure:

See the thread on the East cost forum.

I might be there fella,

if the wife is at work i'll turn out for it, but only if I don't have to cast more than 46 yard's,

"My Mustaad, cast 250 yards, whilst dressed in our gear"

suit hasn't arrived from the supplier, so i'll be hampered if the casting is excessive

Does anyone know of any good places to get a breakfast from, I'm not sure if any of the places I used to frequent are open on Sundays? I can't be doing with a Muck D's, :bleh: they're bad for you, even their salads, apparently!

Final destination is right but you must have very old route software as the A45 has been the A14 for at least 10 years and it looks like it doesn't know about the Chelmsford by-pass.
Correct up to date route (from my head) from Dartford Tunnel.
take M25 to Brentwood turn right onto A12, keep going till Ipswich then right onto A14 to Felixstowe, follow docks road then VeiwPoint Road. to Languard point.
