Vote for your favourite place to hold the next North East meet. You have one week. :)

A date and time will be arranged soon after the poll closes.

P.S. : A meet will be arranged for the Holderness coast and the Tyne and Wear area (if roker pier doesn't win) a little later in the year for those interested.

One's sandy and the other's sandy and rocky Greg, sorry mate couldn't resist.:kissing:

Seriously though Sandsend beach is similiar to South Shields big beach I believe but with more fish on it!

Runswick bay is a mixture of sand, kelp, rocks and more kelp! There is a nice sandy stretch though that can be snag free, unless there's weed rolling about on the beach. Some great rock marks around Kettleness point.

 i get you Dave:blink: :notworthy

If the meets gonna be back end of march start of april time, will there still be cod about on the rocks or will it be better fishing off the clean ground?

I am going to choose sandsend beach as its clean ground and will suit all abilitys and allow all anglers to fish together instead of being split up on different rock marks also there should be some flatties knocking about etc fingers crossed:)

Your probably right Chris lol  but this one has been organised with suggestions from a previous thread. Bit of a meet/comp, hopefully with a fish or two turning up!

The Holderness is next on the list, I was hoping to arrange this one for the backend of April, should be more thornies and bass about then. What do you think? I will be needing local help for this one. J.V.:)

Saturday or Sunday will be best for most, hopefully we can hold this one within the next two weeks Phil. I think the 24th or 25th of March looks good.

Yes between Hartlepool and Whitby, when the poll closes , information about time, dates, how to get there and a pic of the venue will go up.
Anyone who wishes to come along but doesn't have transport, let us know, we can arrange transport to and from the venue.

More detail coming soon J.V.:)

would it not be a good idea to choose between the 2 favorite venues at the last minute and decide depending on weather just a thought:)

would it not be a good idea to choose between the 2 favorite venues at the last minute and decide depending on weather just a thought:)

I tried this at the last meet in Northumberland and to be honest I thought it was a good idea then but now in hindsight I realise that it causes too much confusion, resulting in a poor turnout.

Runswick bay looks very likely to be the chosen venue this time, which I think is a good choice. I can't guarantee that fish will be caught or the weather conditions on the day but Runswick is fishable in just about all weather. Also it's about time we had a North Yorkshire meet!

My biggest problem at the moment is: Meet or competition?

£100 has been offered for the heaviest fish, do we go for the money or go along for the chance to put names to faces and a bit of friendly banter. The choice is yours.

A meet / comp doesn't work, I experimented with this idea at the Northumberland meet and realise now that a competition will see anglers go their seperate ways to find a bag of fish. A meet gets anglers together for a bit of banter and the sharing of ideas regardless of how good or bad the fishing is.

I would really like to hear what the W.S.F. members thoughts are on this matter, either through this thread or by pm.

Thanks J.V.:)

split your prize money up into smaller amounts.

longest fish......... length, so all fish can count and be returned. you can get quite competative if theres only rockling.

heaviest edible fish.... make a list of fish to count.

heaviest flat fish..... all to count. catch and release.

heaviest total bag of edible fish.... from list.

longest total catch... all fish to count and returned if not wanted or edible.

£20 to each category.

not enough money to get too competative about.

lots for people to have a laugh about and frendy banter.

the only drawback is someone would need to keep a list.

if paul goes it would be a nice job for him to do and meet people.

a form would need to be made with a list for each category for each person.

just a sugestion.

just a sugestion.

This gonna be in daylight then?

Why not halfy half, daylight/dark. Then atleast theres a bit more chance of a few whiting and codling if it runs a bit into dark. Atleast that way its light when everyone meets up etc, but still a desent chance of a few fish turning up

maybe do it about 3 pm and if ppl wanna stay let them i prefer night fishing i recon its better crack :secret:

I thought it was best to fish the area at low water Phil because you get pushed off the beach towards high tide. I have only been to Runswick a couple of times and could do with more advice from local anglers regards best times to fish.

I believe that a late meet will put people off from attending. The times that I have quoted are not set in stone at the moment and the meet doesn't have to be this coming weekend but this may be your last chance at the cod, given the predicted weather conditions. Ideally low tide around 7pm would be a good choice with the meet running from 5pm until 9pm, get your tide books out and get back to me asap with your suggestions, I would like to see some fish caught at this one.

If the meet is to be held next weekend a decision has to be made soon preferably by this Sunday.

Suggestions about the meet regarding times, tides and some general advice about fishing the area is more than welcome, this is what this thread is for.

Right lads and lasses I am off fishing talk to you later.:clap2:

Weather looks spot on for next weekend as the sea should be dieing by then, might be a bit of weed about tho. You do get pushed off the beach about 2 hours either side of HW like and looks like HW will be about 19:35 or somewhere around there. So I suppose you might be spot on with 12-4 haha :secret: Atleast if there has been a bit of sea on the water in runswick is usually filthy :)

you could get to runswick mid tide up then on the right hand side(the beach)you do get cut off from walking back to your car along the beach a couple of hours either side of high tide but it you fish to half way back from high again you can walk off again. don't matter the left hand side you walk back with the tide then follow it back out or go right round the left hand side through the houses and fish on concreate a few hours either side of high water without moving hope this helps
