A few weeks ago when DAB was first conceived it was suggested that we have a meet before the 28th April to get to know one and other and to get the cobwebs off the tackle! How many DAB members are intersted in this? (feel free to bring partners and friends along) and do we have any suggestions for a venue/dates - options could be - West Bexi, Abbotsbury, Swanage, or Poole - but any suggestions can be made!

Jolly good idea, lets wait for DBY or Crack off to see this, if they think the timing is good for southbourne or swanage i say go for that, it will be a change.
london arena is looking good for a friendly though!

Swanage above Southbourne at the moment.......... fancy Chapmans pool ,bit of a trek though ,and a little steep
To be honest ive done soooo much scratch match fishing lately i could do with a change of scenery and pace
Swanage or Kimmeridge any good ?
Ian Houlton

Swanage for me as it involves no Walking to speak of, but if kimmeridge is the place DBY take em there mate, if it is better it will be best.

I like the sound of Kimmeridge but for a first meet somewhere where we can all meet and fish with minimum of complications will probably be best - it'll help if there is a nice pub or hotel bar to retreat to if necessary. Swanage sounds pretty good! I can take two with gear in my car.

any ideas on a date, how about next Saturday? what do you reckon?
if we get a date sorted i will e mail all the D.A.B members to make sure they are aware
Whats Swanage like? What do you target down there? I can't make the meet but its a new venue for me to try some time.

I reckon Colin or DBY would have a better idea but i have seen bass, Pollack. Sole and ray caught there. I certainly think Turbot may be a Species but it would all depend on season.
I think it is a very under rated venue and it is a lovely place to be.
Also it is a refreshing change to Chesil beach as it is sandy.
Sole are caught at 30/40 yds.
I have already got my sole rigs sorted for this venue even though it will more than likely be kicking off for them around Aug. I may be wrong on that though

Good idea m8, & Swanage sounds good to me, Its not too much of a trek.
When were we thinking of doing this then Ian? wev`e got the place, what about a date and time.

A few plaice showing from Ocean Bay, a ray was caught recently from the pier so they are around in the bay, always a bass or two and a big conger was caught a few weeks back from The Grand area by the reef.
details and pics of marks on my blog, click on Swanage bay in sidebar.
ps. I'm fishing a match Sat night, when were you guys thinking of fishing ?

Saturday would be great fo me, I don`t know about the other members, maybe they will be going out shopping with the missus and what not, I do mine on Thursday.
Would it not be better to do a Sunday as then those that work all week have a chance to get thier shopping and bits & bobs done on the saturday.
Don`t make much difference to me, i`m not married and I never work (god forbid!)
C`mon members some input on this, it would be nice to get as many there as pos.

I think it has been suggested that we have this meet 1 week before the 28th meet
i am defo going fishing somewhere this weekend though as NJJ is staying with us and he aint getting away without taking me to the beach !

Right thats Mothers Day taken care of back to the real business at hand! I can do next Sunday - 25th, the following Sunday is the HHAC friendly, then its Easter when I could do one day over the long weekend (not Sunday). Otherwise the weekend before the 28th is good for me (and there might be more fish about bu then).
I`m easy, just drop me a line and say "be there at such & such a time." and I`l be there.
Any time is good for me, and thats a good point about there being more flappy little smelly things about by then.
A few weeks ago when DAB was first conceived it was suggested that we have a meet before the 28th April to get to know one and other and to get the cobwebs off the tackle! I will apologise now if I seem to be a party pooper, But I have been looking at all the replies to this thread, and to be quite honest I have noticed a couple of things.
Firstly there was varied discussion on the venue for the meet and people who did put thier view across have settled on Swanage which is fine for me as it may be with those that agreed with it.
Secondly, as above in Lockstock`s post it was only ever suggested that a meet was held before the 28th April, And this is where I can see the problem.
According to the list of members of DAB there are (correct me if i`m wrong)22 or 23 members, and as I have been led to believe, many of these members come from quite a distance from the Dorset coast.
If we have this pre season meet on 21st April (one week before 28th) then it may be difficult for those that live further away, in that they will then have to find the funds to sort out bait & tackle etc, and for travel expenses Twice in a week.
As I have already stated I`m fine with it as I live on the doorstep, so to speak, But we have to think of the whole rather than the few.
You see, I havn`t seen alot of feedback from the vast majority of the DAB members on this so don`t know how they feel on the subject, but then again niether do the few who are seeming to be fine with what was somewhere agreed upon.(ie. dates, still no time.)
Its only my opinion, and you ask for this and thoughts from all members.
Would it not be easier to email all members and ask if the date you have in mind suits them, and if traveling twice in a week will be a problem, ask for an answer within a given period, see what the outcome is and put it to the vote.
The way I see it is that if we are going to have a meet to get to know eachother, then it would be better if we can get as many members there as possible,
As far as I can see at the moment its still all a bit up in the air and we will end up with a meet of about three or four people at Swanage.
From the posts that are on here It is easy to see that there are good people involved with DAB, with some good ideas, But I have witnessed occurances in the past where people have worked hard to put something together for others and it has all gone pear shaped, people havn`t turned up, and all the hard work has been for nothing.
I only say it would be nice to work that little bit harder to avoid senarios such as this and to make this a club we can all be proud of.
Mike.

Right after consultation - the pre-meet should be at the same beach as the meet - i.e West Bexington - this will allow some practice of tactics etc and it is nearer for many people than Swanage. The Pre-meet should be either one or two weeks before the 28th - I take the point about the cost of people coming backwards and forwards but not everyone is expected to attend every event - we are friendly club set up around the principle of come along when you can and have fun! Will those wishing to attend a pre-meet at West Bexi on either the 14th or 21st April PM me with your preferred date - we'll see which is most popular. Also could you pm me (in the same pm if you want) and let me know if you are planning to attend on the 28th for the DAB league and South Coast Comp event at West Bexi.
If there are still enough people interested in a Swanage trip we can try and organise one too and also Ian H's Bait collecting safari is still on the cards in the next few weeks for those interested - can you PM Ian with your interest on the safari.
Keep smiling!

Mican, I see wat you are saying about numbers, but the chances are with the numbers we have we may never get a massive crew on our meets until we have a few.
As for the bait safari, I cannot wait for that actually so yes anyone interested needs to PM me and i can then arrainge lashings and lashings of ginger beer!

OK I'm starting to get some DAB members saying that they will attend on 28th and at the pre-meet (date to be finalised) - I've got half a dozen definites so far and we have a great caster to give people some tips at the pre-meet - so come-on guys don't wait for me to chase you PM me and make my life simple LOL! If you've PM'd me already assume I have your name on my list!
Count me into the meet 100 %
2 weeks before should give us the same tide, seems daft practicing on a neap and fishing a spring in the match .......... but i dont mind, count me in any way

The DAB pre-season meet took place today with another section of Chesil cleared of the pesky dogfish by the men in pants! A slight error of judgement saw two of the intrepid anglers go knee deep in stinky mud on route to the mark. Good job it was a nice day as on the spot laundry was required resulting a new sport of underpant angling being invented. I bet even Team Extreme don't fish in their y-fronts! Pictures were taken but this is a family site and one member has asked for the opportunity to digitally enhance their image before publication. Apart from a whole kennel full of dogfish one Dab was landed by yours truely. No one blanked. All in all a very good start to the season!
Where was the meet held in the end then?

Great day fishing. Lots of dogs caught in daylight and well done Lockstock on the "dab" (still think it was a small plaice though!), and thanks for the BBQ butties. Glad we had an offshore breeze, that mud really stank and I didnt fancy fishing upwind of that. Come to think of it perhaps washing off your trousers in the sea drove off all the fish. Just as well Ian didn't need to wash off his boxers!
Looking forward to the 28th.

I enjoyed the whole day and especially the new boat exiting routine as displayed by Lockstock and quickly followed by myself. A little un nerving but pretty amusing was watching Richy trying to gain some form of balance with both feet stuck in the mud. got a hell of a tan and NJJ bagged his first ever dogfish NO MACKEREL!
Looking forward to the next one, thanks lads.
As I understand it Ian has previous for this. He just has to show he has the crack, and if people won't look at him he finds an excuse to take his trousers off instead.
