how often do tides reach very high and low depths ?

ie : ive noticed tonights tide is

1517 High 6.1
2134 Low -0.1

ive never seen it like this before,
its great for getting a few baits for a sessions fishing, lug seem bigger , some rocks exposed which holds larger mussels, few razors can be collected .

is there a book or summit that shows the approx dates off these high/low tides ?

Hi mate
Most tackle/bait shops have a prediction sheet that is generally available and usualy free. This sheet covers times and heights of high and low tides for your area for the whole year. P.R man

Hello,
There are two big tides every year which are the Autumn & Spring Equinox tides - from memory they are Sept & March 23rd ish. This is obviously in addition to the two biggish sets of tides every month (Springs). This is caused by the SUN and the Moons position which magnifies the Gravitational pull, and therfore the tides. Someone on here will know far more about it than me - this is only a very general explanation, but the tides have an enormous affect on the marine enviroment, triggering all sorts of migratory patterns etc also.

i think there are about 5 or six big big tides this year.

you need to remember that the wind will affect how high or low the tides go. e.g- a 0.6m prodiction with a strong on shore wind will actually be higher than a 0.9m prodiction with a strong off shore wind.

worth remembering if your deciding where to dig/ collect bait. there's nothing worse than getting to a bed that only produces on the real lows and find it doesn't go. you end up wasting a complete tide.
