Not yet urly , I will organise at this end, i need to have a chat with alan and nuke i think and get some dates put together , I think chesil was mentioned as a preferd venue whilist chatting at the pub on sunday, need to decide what we want to catch when we do go, as timeing will need to be based around the species we would like to aim for,Trigger fish are a regular at chesil and would make for good fishing if timed corectly,

Now this is looking a bit better. How about getting Team S/E fleeces (plus a spare for Ron), hiring a coach and doing a tour of Englands pubs, sod the fishing, sod meeting up with other members from the lesser areas, just go out and get pished for a week or two!! :drunk: :drunk: :drunk:

Looking forward to this one. Normally when I attend meets I fish as Essex, but this one I shall remain pure South Coast.....:)
Jassyfa, the matches down here usually limit the Garfish and mackerel to a maximum of ten per angler. Its fine to have a ban on these fish in the competition, as long as you mud anglers dont mind banning flounders and eels at the next Essex meet.
Slayer, may I recommend the Marina if this competition is going to be Mid may or later. 24 hour secure parking, wheelchair access if required, and to save you poor old Essex boys legs, I can arrange a taxi service from the parking out to the wall. I can also arange to have pegs reseved for the event, I would just need a little notice. If thee is enough people, I can arange for the whole of the East arm fo the event (57 pegs)
Mid-may onwards, likely species would be Bass, mackeel, Garfish, Flounders, Plaice, Wrasse, Pollock, Black Bream, pouting, Eels, Tub Gurnard, Thinlip, thicklip and Golden grey mullet. Regular visitors are both species of Shad, Herring, Red Mullet, Trigger fish and often sea trout. These of course would have to be returned, and not rated in the match, unless eveybody buys a migratory fish licence, which is unlikely. If the match were to be fished into dark, add Sole and Smoothound to the equation, plus little miad thonbacks and undulates. Sounds a bit more lively than Felixstowe, huh? The other plus of the marina, is that if the spider crabs are in, they huddle tight to the wall, and you can cast beyond them. At Chesil, they are everywhere. We also do not get the plagues of dogfish on the marina. With such a variety of species to fish for, the marina can be a great leveller. The one snag is that there is a fee (the marina is privately owned) of £2.50, although again I think I could negotiate a discount for the day.

Seven bars directly in the marina, including more traditional types as well as flash stuff. A few night clubs if you bring your posh frocks!
Take a look here:- http://www.brightonmarina.com/
There is even a webcam to show you where I'm gonna be in thirty minuites, and the horrible weather I am going to have to suffer........:)
If its a meet and not a comp then im happy with whatever fish counts. As for the return meet im hopeing for a kent venue as it will be flounders and eels from the Essex coast.

Wouldnt a period of the time being a serious match with the fishing going on afterwards, for those that wish to enter, be a good idea?. For those that dont, they could still draw a peg, but just pleasure fish. Or if we get an idea of how many would like to match fish it, we could set aside a section for that, and let the rest have a walk to wherever they want. Something for everyone then. Just dont bring Dion down with you.......

In my opinion it would be better for the "serious" match boys to sort out a "serious" match and the "lets have a meet and a fun day out" lads sort their own "fun" meet.
Not that its likely that I will be there for either.

If its Brighton you should make the effort Juan. Only an hour from the dartford tunnel, and you will be amazed at the standard of the fishing there. its a good place to wander amongst the other anglers as well, as the lower part is for anglers only. aquí están los pescados grandes.....:)
There are no prizes so dion wont be here, also the lack of flounders would keep him away

Being as this is a marina type sea wall will there be a lot of people milling around and getting under our feet and makeing it difficult to cast unlike an open beach like selsey or Chesil beach.

Hi Alan,
The lower wall of the marina is for anglers only. I have had a chat with Dave, who is happy to let us reserve half the wall. This would mean two of us per bay, which would also make it more sociable. Selsey and Chesil if the sun is shining means dogs, jet ski's, familys, mackerel bashers and lots of swimmers. Selsey you have the added fun of some of the worst floating weed in the county, as a result of the way the tides converge around the bill. You dont get the weed or the watercaft ot swimmes from the marina walls, as there is a 200 yard exclusion zone around the marina from 1st May, a local byelaw. I believ Whopper is out there today, so perhaps he will be able to give you his opinion of it as a competition venue. And as for casting, you will catch far more within forty yards of the marina than you will at one hundred. The wall itself is the feature that brings in the fish. The predominant tide flows against the wall, bringing with it all the food. The fish know this, and hold tight to the walls.
I fished it yesterday for four hours. Just missed the mackerel, as I got there at the top of the tide (the mackerel are showing in the last hour of the flood at the moment) Float fishing mackerel strip, my wife had three garfish, I had five, plus two squid in two casts then lost the jig! But the fishing is in no way anywhere near its good time yet!

Seriously, if it is a competition and Gars and mackerel arent allowed, I'm sure no-body would mind. But dont panick that these southerners are garfish guru's. Any one of you that has fished Southend pier and taken a bag of them would hold their own no worries.
Just in case any of you are worried that its a bit daunting, cos of the number of different species to catch, come down before hand, should it be decided that this is the venue, and I will show you what and where. As much as I would fish for Southern, I'm still an Essex boy and would want you guys to have a level playing field.

Ok, everybody have a look here-

same as you mark, but can't do 14/15 june due to a wedding in someset. wants to be before the end of july though, be sure of the decent hounds,
re; match,
float fishing or using lures is a legitimate way to catch fish, i rarely do so, but would from a venue like the marina, i've no problem with people weighing in gar, but mackeral i'm not sure about (in a match anyways, fine for bait but not for weighing ! agree about no feather caught fish,
the comp shouldnt be hard, or even too difficult, people would only need enter if they want to, say a fiver or tenner each, one rod / 3hooks max, or two rods 3hk max (pennel counts as one hook), and a three or four hour session as the match,
i'd do it as measure and release, going by the length to weight samf chart and having a card signed by the guy next to you, simple ! (not purely length only or i'm out),
payout is easy enough,
20% biggest flat and round fish(10% each ),
20% most points (ie biggest bag)
15% second,
15% third.
10% for 4rd 5st and 6nd.
easy !
i'm quite happy to sort that side of it out if no-one else wants to do it.
as for the session, i don't mind what time we start, but i'll fish it til dawn, don't see the point in short sessions !
fishy... i know no fires, but can we hace self contained bbq's ?

the comp shouldnt be hard, or even too difficult, people would only need enter if they want to, say a fiver or tenner each, one rod / 3hooks max, or two rods 3hk max (pennel counts as one hook), and a three or four hour session as the match,
i'd do it as measure and release, going by the length to weight samf chart and having a card signed by the guy next to you, simple ! (not purely length only or i'm out),
payout is easy enough,
20% biggest flat and round fish(10% each ),
20% most points (ie biggest bag)
15% second,
15% third.
10% for 4rd 5st and 6nd.
easy !
i'm quite happy to sort that side of it out if no-one else wants to do it.
as for the session, i don't mind what time we start, but i'll fish it til dawn, don't see the point in short sessions !
fishy... i know no fires, but can we hace self contained bbq's ?
Hugh, I agree with all your points, although if we are fishing part of it as a serious match, I would recomend one rod only, as two will become a pain in a competitive situation. Measure and release absolutely, although we will need to say UNLESS FOR THE TABLE otherwise Ron wont come and play. I woiuld also recommend the session be 24 hours, but the match only say six hours, then people can carry on fishing or knock it on the head as per their commitments.
Nukemall and all previous organisers, How did you eventually agree a date previously?
What ever date you set somebody isn't go to be able make it. I have to work some weekends and I need at least 4 weeks notice to gaurentee the weekend off, which would make setting a date near impossible as other peole have commitments. Just pick a date and stick with it.

Maybe have a poll of the dates for best tides and then go with the most votes or choose a date and stick to it??
I am free from end of July onwards with regards to holidays so pick a date!
June 16th for a week is no good for me as im going to the IOW with my family. Any other date is fine tho, ill just fit it in!
