been looking and i am free on the 17 june . you lot up for that ???????
I'm off to the IOW on the 18th June for a week until the 25th so anytime before or after that is fine. Yeah no comp prizes and just a friendly with a few bob going to charity sounds good. Im happy with putting a tenner in still, but if others dont want to its fine!

I'd sooner spend the night in bed with my beloved than on a pier fishing, sorry fella, but thats the way it is, now if you could persuade Halle Berry to come along and give me a B.J, then i'd probably reconsider,
but only for a few minutes, and still say no!

Last year Ash and myself (did you spot the correct grammer) fished Weymouth. there is parking next to the sea wall and a wooden pier that is free to fish from at night. From the sea wall we had scad mackeral, pollack, eels, pout. whiting and dabs from the end of the pier we had bigger pout, doggies, bass pollock and smoothounds. However the end of the pier isn't all that big and would not be able to get everybody on.
From reading other reports Chesil at night is mainly doggies in the summer.
how about a day meet at brighton for the south home venue and a day meet a dungie for the losers home meet, then those who wish to stay on for a socal and fish can carry on into darkness?
I just hate fishing from marinas sea walls or piers but will still be there .
Alan
So in day time from Brighton marina what can you catch if you aint using a float. This means mackeral, gar pollack and wrasse are all out of the question
crazyplums
25-04-2007, 09:22
you'll catch most fish during the day, bream, bass, gar, macky, pout, flatties, allsorts !
night just fishes better, as with almost every other venue ! floats are optional !! ya'll can also jig for squid !
can anyone fish these things or is it invite only?

Mid-may onwards, likely species would be Bass, mackeel, Garfish, Flounders, Plaice, Wrasse, Pollock, Black Bream, pouting, Eels, Tub Gurnard, Thinlip, thicklip and Golden grey mullet. Regular visitors are both species of Shad, Herring, Red Mullet, Trigger fish and often sea trout. These of course would have to be returned, and not rated in the match, unless eveybody buys a migratory fish licence, which is unlikely. If the match were to be fished into dark, add Sole and Smoothound to the equation, plus little miad thonbacks and undulates. Sounds a bit more lively than Felixstowe, huh? The other plus of the marina, is that if the spider crabs are in, they huddle tight to the wall, and you can cast beyond them. At Chesil, they are everywhere. We also do not get the plagues of dogfish on the marina. With such a variety of species to fish for, the marina can be a great leveller. The one snag is that there is a fee (the marina is privately owned) of £2.50, although again I think I could negotiate a discount for the day.

No dates yet girls, the south forum are very busy with there inter countie frendlys
the first of 4 legs is this weekend, i persoal think the south should hold the first meet in the summer when the smoothys are in and a few bass also this will provide good fishing for you lot, and i think your host venue dungie will be best fished in october when the cod are back to play. what you lot recon?
whopper as for all the banter is it ok to start a south east banter thread in the south east sub forum? This will stop all the banter on other threads i hope:)
When all of YOU girles have sorted out your differences..:) .WOULD it be possible to COME to some AGGREMENT on the place and times... ...or as my grannie said... you can PLEASE some of the the PEOPLE some of the time but NOT ALL of the the PEOPLE ALL OF THE TIME..... but can we do it soonest....:clap2:

Early to mid June will see all species available on the Marina. The hounds are a bit hit and miss from the maina, but if they are there it will be when the Spiders are peeling. You cant really put a date on that because it varies from year to year.
I personally reckon that to do it properly you need a 24 hour meet. If some of you (UBD, I'm hearing you) fancy it but need to sleep or something, I can arrange some accomodation minutes fom the marina. What a lot of people do down there is take one of those pop up tents (Beach buddies ae virtually useless there) to kip in for a few hours when the fishing is slow
There are also other factors that the locals will use to their advantage. One of these is live prawns. Straight away you guys from South East will struggle to collect them as it isnt something you are used to using. As this is a very unfair situation, I will also endeavour to tank up prawns for the visitors. I cant promise exact numbers or anything, but I will make sure there are enough for you guys.
And I wont even be charging you fo them! They are dynamite bait for many things, but particularly effective for bass and pollock. Fished down the wall at night they also thow up some funnies, such as Topknot.
Nice try Rob....LOL.
Thats 32 off topic posts deleted. Dont get me wrong i do find the banter funny. But i think this thread may go on for a while as no date has been set yet, so i dont want it to be a nightmare to look through if you need to find information if you get what i mean. Oh and please dont PM me saying "Youve deleted my posts" etc etc. Thanking you kindly:kissing:

The way I see it, is that with the Essex vs Kent matches it was comfort fishing. We all knew what rig to and tactics to use as they are the same when most of us fish anyway.
By taking on the south forum we are fishing of a pier which means a change of tactics as float fishing would have to be incorperated. As we all know nobody like change. However look at the different species that could be caught to knock everybody species hunt up, and more importantly some of us could learn new techniques which should improve our fishing.
So I say show us how to float fish for mackeral, gars and pollock and bring it on.

Too true. Its easy to get to the beach and throw out a lead. But putting a bit of practice in with other methods can only be a good thing. I think going to the marina will be a good place to fish, plus no distance casting needed. Smuts run close to the wall and other smaller species can be caught within a few yards...ideal i think!:)

I'm up for Brighton Marina - plenty of room for everyone and easy to walk up and down to chat to people. Free Parking and the obligatory long walk to the East arm (if fished); stick a bike in the boot it's much quicker!
I went down to the West Arm of Brighton Marina last week and caught two Gars (first ever) in 1.5hrs, good fun and more to come. Old bloke with a centre pin reel and sporting rod to my right was catching them one every 3 casts along with Pollock and the odd Mackie.
Set a date according to the tides - Fishy Rob have you any dates in mind - and I'll hopefully not be on holiday in Spain!?
If the Marina is fished then take some 15mm or bigger pipe lagging so you can lean your rods against the Marina wall.
what does the marina fish like at night tom, and what's the best part of the tide to fish?
As its a meet and not a comp (after all I wouldn't think us lot from the south east forum would be able to catch mackie and gar as well as the lot from the south forum). Im looking forwards for the species hunt as I have never caught a wrasse or a bream (do you get bream in Brighton).
Jassyfa if you want to catch a Wrasse try Samphire Hoe...you can't fail!
Talking of the Hoe...hows about a float fishing meet down there.....it has room enough for hundreds of anglers!
fishyrob
01-05-2007, 23:47
Jassyfa, Wrasse no problem, min two species, Ballan and Corkwing. Bream, there are odd ones getting caught alread, although the tend to be in much bigger numbers (although quite small) from June onwards.
Tom, not sure about dates, I really just suggested the marina. I should imagine that the guys that organised the other two meets so succesfull might be better placed on setting dates etc. All I would say is the bigger the tide, the more fish will be caught, generally. As for the long walk, I will happily ferry everybody down there, as long as we all get there nice and on time!
Misfit, Marina fishes better at night for sole and bass, plus all the usual suspects, eels, pout etc. Lots of baby thornback likely also, for the species stats. Plus odd good smooth hound, plenty of pups, odd doggie blah blah blah. Worm (black lug and rag) very good at night, if there arent too many pout. Livebaiting with pout very good, if cuttle fish leave the pout alone.

I will happily get you guys going on the float. Bring sliding floats that take a minimum of an ounce (the heavier the float, the easier it is to control in sidewinds etc. Three ounce floats make a big splash, but can sometimes be the only way to get a bait working right) plus some smallish three way swivels. Fleurocarbon hoolinks and size 4 hooks will see you catching at least four different species on the mackerel strip. Fishing one on strip and one on ragworm and creeping it near the bottom will see your species tally rise. And on the cleaner stretches, bouncing it along the bottom can bring all sorts of suprises, and can catch a lot more than static baits if the sea is clear. Anyone that has run a stick float through the Chelmer will realise it is the same gig, just scaled up!!

Hi Misfit - FishyR has answered your question and he has far more experience on the Marina than me as I have only fished it three times and only one of those properly.
It's a good venue as there is lots of room, free parking, lots of different kinds of fish around and easy to walk up and down to talk to people. Gets my vote.
excellent, me and dan will be down tomorrow night about 7 I think, fish from low water up and see what happens, I'm thinking a pennel pulley with crab on one rod and a 2 up one down with rag/lug/squid strip on the other....if anyone wants to meet up for a few hours be glad to have some local knowledge along

Now thats an idea:g:
A private boat comp rather than a charter boat comp would keep the cost down too.One in Essex, one on Kent.
If you would rather a charter boat comp it could be organised but would take some sorting out.The problem would be getting enough boats avaliable for the day.If you went the charter boat route then you may need to organise it maybe a year in advance. You then get the problem of people dropping out and the price escalates as the boats still have to be paid for.You would need to be looking at around £300 per charter boat. The private way only the fuel and bait needs to be sorted.
I could sort the Essex leg if we done it.We have a great slip, parking and bar at Burnham. There could be as many boats as people wanted to enter.Would just need to sort teams per boat.Names and boats in hats, draw names of people per boat, that way makes it fair and no one picks which boat that fish on.All they no is they WILL be on A boat.

Well chaps, to keep the ball rolling, fancy doing it all again. I can completely understand if you say no, cos I think we all realise it turns into an enormous amount of work and effort, but what about it guys..........?? Both your meets have been very succesfull...... I will give as much help and assistance as I can, but do not have the spare mental capacity for the fine detail. I am also out of the country 14th to 23rd May, and 27th June til 24th July, and incomunicado for much of that time, so not in such a good position for the actual organising............
What do you reckon guys...... Will ya, will ya...........:)
Well I am up for a fishing meet against the south. Must admit I feel the advantage will be with the south team although the experience gained from someone showing me how to float fishing and the thought of new species for this year and general new species full stop sounds good to me.
Anyway its not about the winning but the taking part and getting to know other anglers that matters.

Come on Mark, you must have learned after all these years of marriage. What you do, is book her and yourself for whatever you guys like doing best, the weekend BEFORE the anniversary. When she asks why, say it is because the anniversary weekend was already booked. She will be so bowled over by your amazing thoughtfulness and ability to organise said event, she will be a pushover for the meet........ Or, book into the Seattle (the marina hotel) get her drunk well early, and tiptoe off once she starts snoring......... hi guys, i am currently organising 2 meets at present, one, now on the 27th july, i can't say much about yet as it's mainly invitation, the other, is our inter county (south coast forum) meet, i had earmarked the 11th august for it, though i've not set it, several people said this was ok for them, we'll never please everyone, all the time,
if you like, i fore-go our meet so we can get this one on the go and let people plan time off etc if they need to, so how about just saying 11th august, if you can you can, if you can't, then sorry !
11th august, ??????????????????
just say yes and we'll get rolling !!
ps, the only other option thats free for many is the 28th july, but, bear in mind that about 30 of us will have fished a big meet all night the night before. so some might not feel up to it (dog tired), or be able to make it (mrs)
If im off then I will fish it, having fish with a few of you lot before I know you are a decent lot and im sure it will end up in the pub after Ash having a bonfire and Issy complaining about his hat they fell into the water. Nukem will be complaining about his cans of lager getting warm and Ron will be filleting the rockling.
And if Alan T and Nukem can't make it then I think im captain.

Nice one Hugh!! Originally I had suggested the previous weekend, as the bigger tides SHOULD show the better fishing. However, the week before last (small tides) the marina fished much bette than this week (bigger tides) so who's to say the same wont happen. WHatever the tides the fishing is mostl likely to be very good! And as a back up venue (strong S or SW winds might mean the marina is closed) maybe Seaford beach? Or even Worthing Pier? (Virtually unclosed in any weather, but no night fishing. Unless of course we make it a charity event, and then we might be able to get access via the Wothing club.
11th August is great for me! So come on lads, let's get that date finalised then Rob can book us a section of the Marina and we can get on with the banter!
I'm up for it too, 11th is good

it wants to be booked, or i'll have it for the team extreme south forum - inter county' match.
Well that's 8 now and not even posted on the South Forum yet. I reckon we should ask Fishyrob to get the Marina booked - I'm sure we'll easily muster enough to make it a proper do! Once the date and venue are firm we can get on with the other arrangements.

erm..... would you rather do it on the 28th july ? i've just this minute had to re-book a 30man breakwater trip due to a double booking. the date is the other spare weekend, the 10th aug now, so it might be too much for some to fish all night at dover, then all night at brighton on the sat,
those involved will be pm'd shortly.
so, 28th july anyone ???:unsure::unsure::):):)

Blimey, Hugh, that's a bit of a choker. Just as we thought we'd got firm dates for both! Anyway, for the South / South East forum meet I am happy to switch it to 28 July or if that is too difficult then I am okay to fish 11 August on the Marina. At least we have it narrowed down to two possibilities which is a step forward from a week ago!

how about then, Mark, if we do have to have both on the same weekend, that we utilise the 28th for our east sussex vs rest meet ?
oops, wrong forum !
So when is the soeth east vs south match and where?
crazyplums
07-06-2007, 23:35
right, well i guess you either choose 28th july, or the 11th august, either or, but please lets get it sorted quickly, both dates have a good number of our lot available as we'd already scouted them as possible dates for other things.
i don't mind the 11th aug, it means we fish two long nights on the trot, but at least that gives us the 28th july for out south interforum match.
Hugh

Defo Brighton Marina on either 28 July or 11 August. Venue is firm and we thought date of 11 August was firm but due to a separate overnight Dover trip originally booked for 27 July having to be switched to 10 August we're canvassing 28 July as a poss alternative for resons Crazyplums explained.
Let's try and decide once and for all today whether we stick to 11 August or switch it to 28 July. Then we can ask Fishyrob to make the necessary booking of the Marina to ensure we have a clear stretch of pegs specifically for the match.

I can't due 28th July or the 11th of August due to being on week on week off shifts.
I hope those that go have a good time though and Essex remain champions :clap2:

good luck all who fish and please lets see loads of photos . ash put it away i meant fish not fishy things lol .
catch up soon boys .
both dates are OK for me though i'd prefer 11 August as I will only just be back from a wedding in Texas on 28th July and I will be rather jett lagged, however if it is 28th I will still be there, just hyped up on red bull

I really need the date for this meet asap so I can book it as holiday.

Better check with the Essex boys on the 11th August date.We have a boat comp on the 5th August so they may not be allowed out 2 weekends on the trot!...Not sure how much response you are getting anyway with a night match...they dont like the dark..........or Piers! :)

and there's me thinking they're all a big ruff n tuff bunch ! piers are no bother, night is a cinch, not to mention when the better fishing is to be had !
personally i'd rather see it on 28th july, as those of us fishing dover breakwater on the 10th (overnight) will have two all nighters, with barely enough time to recharge the lamps for the next night !
one or t'other, come on lads !

let's just say the 28th and have done with it then, anyway fishing at night will tone Ron down a bit if he wears a pink ensemble

ok, 28th it is ! that'll do for me !
everyone in agreement ?? if so we'll get fishyrob to book it.

Well dont all rush at once with your answers!
I agree the 28th - and especially looking forward to meeting Ron!
so the 28th of July its the south vs south east

excellent, ROB ????? canya book it then ? we'll let you decide which arm is bestest !
Hugh
count me in.is the car park safe for the car as i did hear it was a bit iffy at night???
so are all us southeast boys gonna meet up at clackets lane and go down in a convoy?
As its the 28th July what time is this match. How much is the parking and how much to fish on the pier
Plenty of info re the Marina here
http://www.brightonmarina-seafishing.co.uk/index.htm
I think the plan is for fishyrob to book us a length of the long east arm. There is no proper parking nearby and its a killer walk with gear. Best way is for someone to act as ferryman and transport all the gear and anglers down to the east arm then park up in the free car park and walk down unencumbered by tackle. As far as I know the car park is safe - well, I've never had any probs! Best meeting spot is probably in the McDonalds Car Park by the Tackle Box.
Still, don't want to hijack the organising so I'll leave Hugh to finalise the details of timings and meeting spots and to liaise with Fishyrob on getting the arm booked.

hey Mark, i didn't think i was organising it ! have a feeling slayer was, i was just pushing things forward and offering dates that i knew would work for the majority ! !
You are the holder of the baton, mate, but you're right - he did say he would get this one rolling. Come on Stu - where are you?

Hi Tom
I worked backwards - its the 28th! Think a summary is needed!!
crazyplums
14-06-2007, 15:23
lol Pedro, i often work backwards when reading a long thread, it's like a good book... not much makes sense til you get to the end (the start !)
Right - we need to get some momentum here. Slayer seems to have vanished for the mo so lets get some stuff firmed up.
The date is defo 28 July 2007
The venue is defo Brighton Marina
The marina has pubs, restaurants and a 24 hour supermarket so food and drink is hardly going to be an issue.
There is a tackle shop on site so those who need to can order and collect bait.
Best meeting spot is probably the McDonalds Car Park which is right by the tackle shop. From there the majority of cars can be stuck in the free multi-storey and those who are acting a ferrymen can easily load up and make the run down to the east arm entrance.
Suggest we fish the match to SAMF rules, measure and release, points for all fish over 20cm except mackerel. We can peg it so that anglers from the different teams are alternated and that way fish can be signed off by an angler from the other team. No prizes this time, unless there are those who want to stick in a fiver and maybe have a couple of pools?
All that seems outstanding to me is that we need to ask Fishyrob to book us a chunk of the arm. But to do that we need to finalise the timings and have a good idea of numbers. Since this has not yet even been posted on the South Forum, I guess we need to get that bit rolling and I will post something when I get time later today.
Probably a good idea to unsticky this thread - which has gone all round the houses as Tom Parker and Pedro both mentioned a few posts ago - and start a new one with the firmed up details.
All okay so far?
