After some dithering on the venue i eventually went to arglass pier this morning.
I had planned to go to either blackrock or glenarm but got away from belfast at 8:15 and did not want to wait till 9am for the bait/tackle shop to open.

I went to Ardglass on the understanding that bait (herring and prawns) would be freely available from the Spar at the harbour. How times have changed - the shop is no longer owned by Angus Cochrane and as such appears to only stock fish at the weekends! Its amazing that a fishing port like Ardglass does not have any shops selling fish.

I tried spinning and feathers for about 40 mins before giving up and going to the fish processing factory to beg for some herring.

10 minutes later i returned with 4 herring - many thanks to S & P Milligan (Fish Factory).

Tide was still pretty low but i tackled up with float and herring. After about 10 mins I had a mackeral hooked - with the bait presented somewhat deeper than i had usually remembered (say 12-14 feet).

The rest of the morning fished ok and i ended up with 7 mackeral in total - not a feeding frenzy but i was happy enough.

Not a bad trip Declan - at least you cought something.

I'm gonna head up the coast tonight for a few hours - I'll get some bait in Larne later and go for it....

Low tide at 1745 so I'll head out after that.
