Hey, the top section of my rod fits loosely into the middle section. Is there anything I can do to make it a better fit?

Nudream, this topics been covered quite a bit in the past, Can`t really think of any new answers so go to the search facility and type in " loose spigot " You find a variety of solutions there :)

You need to tell us what type of rod, and the type of joint (spigot, tip overfit, or tip into next section) before we can advise. Don't thank us...yet!!

If it's a spigot joint then you can either trim a few milimetres off the female end or spray the male end with graphite. The latter is available in aerosol cans and would probably be the best way to cure the other types of joint. You might get more specific advice if you state which type it is, as has been suggested.

Try here:

Mask off the rod above the spigot and just take it easy with the spray, building it up in light coats and checking for fit between each. If you make it too tight you can cut it back with very fine wet and dry paper of the type sold in car accessory shops, used wet. Just wrap a strip around the spigot under light pressure and rotate the rod, moving the strip back and forth along the spigot.

I had the same problem on one of my rods. I solved it by putting a thin coat of superglue onto the male section and then sanding with a fine emery cloth. 18months later still no problem.

Hi Trim back the female end with a junior hacksaw a bit at a time till you regain a tight fit. Don't do anything to the male joint. Once you have a tight fit again. Whip the female joint end and varnish the whipping. Then rub some candle wax over the male joint to prevent wear. You can do this to all your rods to prevent a similar problem.
