View Full Version : Help with the Shoreham West Arm bin
The S.A.S as you know have managed to get the port authority to put a bin on the West Arm and in future they will be putting another two bins on there. The bin idea is working well however it does need to be emptied by us and it seems that it gets filled to the brim two days from being emptied. Are there any members who would be happy to help empty the bin from time to time and as I mentioned it will need to be emptied every two/three days, we are looking to get some bags that fit the wheelie bin at some point and this will make the chore that little bit easier. A good pair of gardening gloves is a good idea, the bags of rubbish can be left next to the bins in the car park and the council will take them from there. Any takers?.
Cheers

Living in Worthing and working in London means my visits to the arm are infrequent but happy to help when I do go. As it happens, I fished it this morning but luckily the bin was only half full as I had no gloves and no bin liners - originally planned to fish the beach but decided on the arm as a last second whim. Should've fished the beach because the arm was utterly useless.

Not so Jamie - have had loads of decent fish from it over the years. I was surprised that there were not wall to wall mackerel today as water conditions were perfect. Apart from my gar, I saw two mackerel along the whole arm and there quite a few fishing today. Maybe the smallish tide and a load of fresh water coming down the river could have made a difference. The survey vessel started working about an hour after high tide. There were spider crabs about too and I pulled in hookless snoods two or three times.
Tell you what - the Solstice comp will be a lottery if it stays like this.

if your gonna empty the bins use a litter picker http://www.somerset-bin-store.co.uk/images/parr-bin2.jpg ,it will take you a bit longer but its safer than using gloves alone and it will protect you from needles ,glass and dog siht lol .

hi mr t
will always empty the bin(s) when i fish the arm and so will the other two Herbert's that often accompany me
you have done sterling work my man and we should be proud of you for upholding true SAS dedication
as we all know the arm will turn into tinsel town soon so the pressure on the solitary bin is going to be immense so lets hope some of its kin arrive soon .
i hope to get a chance to fish the arm a week Saturday (evening ) to practice my blanking strategy before the comp because if i am going to blank i intend to do it in style and just to prep my self i bought my tape measure today and got it home and guess what it wasn't marked with anything BLANK both sides!!!!!!!!!! all i need now is to take my landing net (the big one) and spend all the shopping money on bait and i reckon Ive got it cracked
i will do it every time im down there. but i cant say i will do it every week or have a fixed timetable.

Gray, cheers for the pm mate I shall have to work on my good lady for that one. I was at work today and we had a stroll up the West Arm and it was a sh@t hole, I casually picked up a couple of bits but as I was at work I didn't want to make it look like I went down there with them to clean up "if you know what I mean". The bin was empty and I couldn't believe all the cr@p along the wall, I shall have a go tomorrow before I go to work @ 2pm. All going well we will have some bags that fit the bin later next week.
It's amazing the tackle you find when you have a clean up.
Cheers

Aha! Actually, I was joking, assuming it will be on the 21st. So, technically, it is the "four days before solstice" competition.........:)

A pedant writes!:):)
A pedant, or pædant, is a formalist or precisionist in teaching or scholarship. The corresponding (obsolete) female noun is pedantess. The term comes from the French pédant (1566 in Darme & Hatzfeldster's Dictionnaire général de la langue français) or its source Italian pedante "teacher," schoolmaster, pedant. (Compare the Spanish pedante.). The origin of the Italian term is uncertain. The first element is apparently the same as in pedagogue (a teacher) etc.; and it has been suggested[citation needed] that pedante was contracted from the medieval Latin pædagogantem, present participle of pædagogare "to act as pedagogue, to teach" (Du Cange); but evidence is wanting. The Latin word is derived from Greek terms for "child" (παιδ-) and "to lead" (αγειν).
If its from the Latin, I'll be it. If its anything to do with the French, it wasnt me..........:yucky:
Apologies, totally taken the thread off track.

Je ne comprend pas!
Point 1.
Henri
Latin is a language as dead as dead can be,
It killed the ancient romans and now it's killing me.
Shame I can't remember much else from my latin text book!
Still - Carpe Labrax! :)
And just to reel this thread back on track, I now have the new super duper wheelie bin sized liners, which I'll bring along on Sunday :clap2:
I have 200 so, they should last a while I hope.
Our thanks to Grahame for his parting gift before leaving for Spain.

SPEAKS ONE WHO HASN'T FISHED IT IN AGES
Jamie, there have been some good fish landed from the arm in recent weeks, not all have been posted here. so unless you fish it regularly and really know what is about, ZIP IT.
I fish the arm weekly, Do a regular clean up( which is more tham you can say)and take note of what has been caught, Not all anglers who fish the arm post on this site , Much can be gleemed by talking to the regulars, which you certainly are not, SO if you have not got anything seriously up to date to add SHUT UP , Until you put yourself out to do some serious fishing from the arm .
