Hi all ,this being my first contact. I want to catch whiting and cod at Dungeness. What stage of the tide is best ? Are the bigger tides better or should I look for the smaller ones.

the big springs fish best at dunge
If you want Cod then try getting out in a boat, they are very few and far between from the beach these days

grahem, where abouts do u live?
me and me mate are thinking of trying dungeness soon, when you planning on going?
where do you normally fish?
Lots and lots of whiting around at the moment, I went 5 weeks ago and it got very tedious. They are all a bit small at present, but will get bigger. Try and find my original report it on the south coast forum. There was also a chap from wales you went a couple of weeks ago, he had the same results, about 40-50 whiting. But don't try fishing in the day time you won't catch nowt unless there has been a blow.
As your'e other replies say chose a big tide and fish from low to high water with high water around midnight to 1am and a couple of hours after. I tried casting different distances but still got the same results. Lug works best but you will need quite a few.
Good luck
Chris

Thanks for the tips buddies.I am one of these occasional anglers so have to make the most of the wetted bait. I normally fish at dungy by the fishing boats or by the wooden hut by the power station.Hopefully now the whiting will get that much bigger and make for a decent bag.
Oh for those days when the cod were thick and ever hungry. We took them for granted but now any gadus would look good.
Lets get those tide tables out and plan a trip.
