Remember Felixstowe after the Essex vs Kent match, where all the banter was about taking on the South Forum. Well you Forum needs YOU.
Now is the time to stand up and be counted, to show the South Coast that we are not afraid to fish Brighton Marina, and that we know how to catch garfish, pollock, wrasse, bream, doggies and smoothounds.
Remember your kent t-shirts and Essex fleeces, well its time to get them out of the cupboard and show your colours on July 28th.

Rememeber your Forum needs you.

Sorry Jassyfa but Brighton Marina marina does not appeal to me at all as you know I only like to fish from the beach and not piers or seawalls.

Like I said Jason, I could only fish part of it anyway, but the real trouble is I am committed to helping out on an important cycle race on that date, so for a number of reasons I am completely stuffed for thia one and I would like to fish the Marina.

Get em on the return at Felixstowe and we will really thrash them 3 Rockling to nil mate.:yeah:

Sod the home leg Issy, this is when we the South East forum stands up and be counted. This is the chance to be the icing on the cake by beating Sussex, Hampshire and Dorset on their door step.
This is the time to check if you have balls or not.
Look at the numbers at Dungeness that turned up to do battle against each other.
Just imagine July 29th you can wake up and say "I fought them on the Marina at Brighton and I have pride".

Yeah, I know mate but as I said I am committed to something else on that date and have been for 17 years now, it's ajob I de every year for the cycling club and I may even have to make different arrangement for that if my car is still buggered, but I am still committed to help out mate. I do really want to fish it but this is one thing I can't get out of.:uhuh:

It will cost me two night annual leave, No disrespect to anybody who has organised it but the dates have already been changed twice, I'm still not clear if it's a day or night match, I can't see what has been decided if the weather is to rough to fish the pier, there's only 7 blokes from the South East attending and every couple of weeks there's a new organiser.

Not forgetting the fact that you Jassa are team captain and the only chance of you catching is if there are suicidal dogfish about :lmao:

If it was on my week off I would be in like a shot but as I only get about 12 days annual leave a year so I don't want to take the chance of it being changed again.

I hope those that fish have a good day and the South East come up tops.

for those worried about the date being changed, fear no, that won't happen,

in hindsight, i don't think the date has ever been changed, i gave two options of days i knew would be free for a chunk of us lot, as i'd already earmarked them for other meets, all i did was ultimately cut it to one weekend once my dover breakwater meet was finalised for the 10th august.

Jassyfa is doing a grand job here, in trying to rallye the troops, so come on lads, don't let him, yourselves, or team extreme, sas, dab and hh, (teams representing e & w sussex, hampshire and dorset), the 40 or so anglers who postponed the team extreme leg of our inter forum meets for a chance to spank you lot !! :bleh::bleh::bleh::bleh::yeah::lmao::lmao:

almost correct.

yes size limits apply,

points are awarded as per the samf chart, sizeable fish are measured, the bigger the fish, the more points it's worth, species vary in the amount of points awarded.

we're not fishing length only. ie letting a 50cm eel beat a 49cm bass ! proper rules my boy !

fishyrob
02-07-2007, 15:15
Indeed, not Cricket, but the art of angling. To be honest, as a result of a lack of fish IMHO Thames anglers are far better at pulling fish from the sea than many other areas, because in many other areas the anglers are spoilt by good numbers of fish available. I am talking about the average angler here, not the match angler, as Sussex match anglers are every bit as good as anywhere in the country. To catch consistently from the Estuary you need to know your onions, as it were. I reckon you will all be fine. Dont get too hung up on the idea of smoothhound. If they are there, then they are easy to catch. If they are not there, then no-one will catch them. Dogfish are not a match target on the marina for some reason, unlike Worthing just a few miles down the coast. Recommend you all go and filter benfleet creek for plenty of harbour rag before you come, as this will give you a big advantage regarding sole once the evening comes. All other bait, I reckon you can pretty much catch while you are there, ie fresh mackerel and spider crab. I will attempt to stock up on Prawn for everybody, if possible. Maybe a few blow lug as a change bait for sole. But dont worry about the numbers. There might be 40 south coast anglers, but in fact they will be split down to the teams they represent, ie HHAC, SAS, TE and hopefully DAB. Basically, dont worry about the competitive element, come along for the new experience. The marina is just one hour from the tunnel. Išve seen how you guys travel all over Essex and Kent for your fishing. Well, it is quicker to get to Brighton than Clacton from Southend, so just come for the craic and enjoy.

Well said, Rob. :clap3::clap3: Its about the craic not the comp. Just as a pedantic point though, we will not be fishing as component teams as this one is a forum v forum match. Doubt the south forum will manage 40 to be honest but even if we do then the average points per angler approach will act as a leveller. And don't forget that not many of those who'll be fishing for the south forum are regulars on the Marina - I last fished it a year ago! The venue was not chosen for home advantage rather as one where we can accomodate a good few anglers without there being potential hassles with other beach users.

3 hooks max, no eels, and catch and return is fine by me. Mackerel should also be excluded. Suggest length to points as per SAMF charts but with only sizeable fish to count. Divide each teams's total points by the number of anglers in the team and you get average points per angler. The team with highest average is the winner and gets bragging rights until the return leg!

Sound fair?

Good man, Flatty. As for times - I suggested a while back that we aim for a 4pm meet at the Tackle Box in the Marina with the match bit to run from 6.30pm to 11.30pm and the fun fishing either side of those times. That would mean we fish the flood tide basically as high water is around 11pm. Seems to me that those timings will suit those who want to get home in time to get enough sleep for them to be able to enjoy Sunday activities. No-one has argued against those timings so I have been assuming that they have been agreed.

I'll do a summary thread with all details of meeting times, match rules, etc soon and hopefully get it stickied.

i don't fish the marina, so i'll try anything, 2/3 hook rigs, size 2 or 4 hooks, big pennels on long flowing traces/sliding ledger, for big baits (4/0 or 6/0), float fishing, maybe even a dexter or two, who knows !

jassyfa
07-07-2007, 09:34
Firstly I would like to say Hello to Suggsey, as its been a long time since he's been on here.
Bait would be crab, rag, lug squid and fish bait, with crab being the main bait. failing crab Iwould rag fished on a paternoster using french booms down the marina wall for wrasse, pollock etc. Also during the daylight hours a bit of float fishing for gars (although Ihave never float fished in my life and im not starting now).
Also if Ash and only if is unavailable to fish then I will have a spare seat in the car.
The comp is at Brighton Marina from 18.30 to 23.30 and so far i believe its free with cheap 24 hour parking nearby. The rules are basically the same as the other comps with it being catch and return and sizeable fish only. However they are using a different measuring technique depending on the type of fish to size of fish gives so many points. This means that a 25cm flounder (which is just about sizeable) does not as many points as a 25cm dab (as a dabs minimal size is 20cm).
