Hi to all you who post on this forum. I know we all have other commitments and high workloads, but why is there such a lack of regular postings. Mikes website is very informative and the forum is a wasted opertunity. Why cant we post more to help, encourage others and ourselves. Just an observational point and not a dig. http://www.worldseafishing.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

IMHO -I think a few of reasons, primarily the season - crappy weather and few shore fish at the moment mean there's not as much *to talk about!

Secondly, more members are needed, and not all that are registered actually post (your post had 5 reads when I looked!)

I think perhaps the way the categories are (correctly) spread, people only check certain boards which spreads the active users more thinly.

But, you are correct, we should make more use of the top notch resource!

Firstly, I must echo the point made by FF - This is an excellent website (best fishing site IMHO), its combines quality content with easy to use layout. Hats of to Mike Snr for the information, which is of use to anglers of all levels of ability from novices to experienced (I wont use the word experts, cos in my opinion there is no such thing in angling), and well done to Mike Jnr as well on the technical side of things.

Must admit, I was surprised myself that the 'old' forum was never that busy. The new one isnt much more active either - but I agree with Hondy, it is a quiet time of the year and as a result even the busy forums have been quiet lately.

Like most forums, there are probably many more people viewing than contributing - thats just the wasy of the world. These things are a bit chicken/egg, ie what comes first... If the forum was busy then it would attract more people to contribute, but if more people contributed then it would be busy ...

I guess it needs a nucleus of 'similar people' (eg from a similar area of the country) to meet on the forum and start to discuss things that are topical to them. This is what has happened with us 'Manxies' and you will see that most post at present contain contributions from us. This in turn has generated contributions from other Manx anglers, who in the past would have viewed but not posted because there was noone else from the Isle of Man around (I can certainly vouch for this attitude myself)

Dunno how you start the ball rolling - perhaps it just takes time ?

So c'mon all you lurkers - post a message to say Hi, and where you are from. Who knows, you might make some new fishing mates and learn a little bit more about your favourite pastime.

Good point FF?Hondy I also agree thts theres not enough posts being entered , and the posts that are sent are only being read not answered, surely you guys that read the posts have a view on the topics . Yes I suppose the season at the moment is quiet ,but its the fish that are cromatosed not us. If theres not a lot of action about at the moment ,then past experiences are worth a mention.Since joining the site I have tried to take an active role ,but somewhat dissappointed when knowone bothers to write back
so come you fishermen out there lets have some news to chew over ,its a good forum ,full of friendly people cheers Jury:O

Cheers guys for the postings. Im sorry I have taken a while to reply, bogged down with uni work, end of term and all that. Is there any way we can encourage people to post. I dont think its the season or lack of fish, other forums I post on are very busy, we need publicity. Any suggestions boys?

Hi Lads,

Thanks for the posts! Must admit, compared to other sections of the site the forum isn’t that well visited. Most popular section by far is the Shore Fishing section which is second behind the front page. The forum comes in at 12th behind the Tips, Reviews and Species sections.

The plan is for the newer site (were not looking at major cosmetic changes now) will give the forum much more exposure. I'm planning on a bigger link to the forum, each forum will be listed individually on every index page. Also every article will have a link to the relevant forum board, so readers can comment easier than before.

In response to your request Fishing Fanatic, I will be adding a classified section. Thanks for the suggestion, I’d thought of doing something similar before - but you reminded me! http://www.worldseafishing.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Thanks for all the support lads, very much appreciated.

I have a classifieds section on mine, it has zero posts http://www.worldseafishing.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif
I guess I should finish mine off before the nice weather kicks in...

When is the new site due out? Soon I hope!

HA! When is the new site ready, Now you're askin! ;)

I have a book which I list all of the problems and corrections which need to be sorted out - its growing daily! Sad really when nobody will notice them!

Planning on:
- a new Fishing Knots Section
- there will be a new FAQ section focusing on Boat and Dinghy fishing
- a new links section, not so messy and this one will be organized!
- The clubs area will be regionalised and linked into the new regional sections.
- Regional sections (this one is taking all the work and is proving difficult content wise)
- Main banner adverts have gone - they are replaced with a new text system.

I was planning on splitting pages up into pages 1, 2 etc so that you didn’t have to scroll too much. But after a bit of consideration I don't think there is much point. The last time I did that is wasn’t very successful.

I'm hoping an end of April / May upload, maybe sooner!

This is what makes the diference between a good site and an OK site, keep it up!

If you need any graphical help I can chip in, I'm not bad with Dreamweaver too but I think you have a better grip on webdesign than me anyway so I probably couldn't add anything there.

I was also looking at a knots section but it's way down the list on my fledgling site.

Thanks for the offers guys.

Should be OK...just! Things seems to be progressing better than they were, so we might see the site sooner rather than later! Well I hope so anyway.

Cheers
