View Full Version : Quirimba Archipelago
Finally, we have done it, in about 1 year from now -African builders permitting, we will have a fishing lodge based in the Quirimba Archipelago. Watch this space- this is one of the best fishing places in the world.

Hi Makubwa,
Interesting that at last someone with interest in fishing is finally doing something up in the Quirimbas. I have been living in Mozambique for 26 years and have been a charter captain for 15 now. Altough I now travel quiet a lot (presently in Bom Bom) I do go back to Mozambique every year between Sep and December for the Black marlin season off Bazaruto (another place with great potential).
Anyway, I was involved for 6 years with Rani Resorts who you might know have 3 resorts up north, two of which on the islands (Matemo and Medjumbe) and have travelled up there a bit and done a few trips to lazarus bank where I experienced the best jigging of my life with dogtooth up to 77 kg, loads of big Gt's, good size yellowfin and the wahoo where a bloody pest. I think you hit the nail in the head there, the fishing potential is out of this world. Looks very promissing for marlin too, altought the guys who have fished up there have pretty shabby results...but the local fisherman from Pemba bring in a lot of juvenile marlin and two years ago I saw a 850 pound blue caught on a pirogue.
Anyway, just interested to know what you doing up there, what island, How big a resort and is it goig to be focused on fishing?
Cheers,
Duarte
Yes purely on fishing... We have just obtained written permission from the government, most of the work is being done by my older brother although with me being based in London, I am going to do most of the marketing. There are a couple of lodges being opened there at the moment, we have been allocated a spot but just need to find out from him which island.

Great stuff, I am happy to hear that, hopefully you will get one of the most southern Islands which will be a much shorter run to the fishing grounds.
Anyway, I am back in Mozambique beginning of September, if you or your brother do need anything from there or if you come down lets have a beer and meet. My Moz cell phone is 00 258 82 805 7160, mail dudas7mares@yahoo.com.br
Just come back from a half day, went two for three in 3 hours, releasing a 350 and a 550 pound blue marlin for a first time Portuguese angler.
Cheers,
Duarte
Yep, I am based in London but my brother although currently based in Dubai will be in Maputo soon directing operations, he has been granted permission but still need to know which island, mozambique tourism is unorganised. When we find out more, I will be in touch.
