View Full Version : quicksilver 630sd boat leak
Hi has anyone had problems with the quicksilver
Hi has anyone had problems with the quicksilver boat my boat leaks like a sive.
This is a new boat 2005
I know of one that sank - helicoptor job too. It was something to do with a stern hatch that came away.
thanks for the reply after six months of it leaking only that cuold happen next
Where does the leak come from? And how much water roughly would gather per week?
Can you identify a possible source?
Mariek
That is disgraceful - how old is she?
Hi she is only six months old and leaked since the day i picked her up
Take it back and demand a full refund!
Yea exactly if she is still under warranty dont even go down the road of repairs and stuff just bring it back to them.

take it back to poland. i have had a few in to do repairs on.
some on wrong type of trailer which has led to hull damage.
didn't you go back to the supplier when you first notice the problems?
Hi
i did phone the day after i collected it . Also the first leak being the scuppers hid the others and after the scuppers wre fixed the transom leak showed. It also is very hard to confirm wre the leak is coming in as it only leaks when the engine starts or i am at anchor fishing the in a 1 hour you would get about 4 pint of water in it

I wonder if Hitler bought one?

HE probably had the blue print to sell to us brits
The hull is guaranteed for 10years so there is no problem with warranty but that does not even come ino it.
Your claim is not against IBS unless you bought the boat from them direct. Whoever sold you the boat meets your claim. The sale of goods act has 3 parts, not merchantable quality, not fit for the purpose, not as described.
If your boat is leaking from new it is not of merchantable quality, and is certainly not fit for the purpose. You have given the seller a reasonable time to rectify faults, you are now entitled to reject the goods for a full refund. Write to the seller listingyour complaint and specify a time for them to reply by. Send it Registered delivery and tell them what you want, ie a full refund of all moneys paid plus expenses for the journeys you have made to bring the boat for repair, cost of solicitor, postage etc. Point out that the boat should be PDI'd as per IBS instructions. (You should have been given a completed PDI sheet when you were handed the boat) Tell them that if matters are not rectified to your complete satisfaction you will see further advice from a solicitor, trading standards and writing to the angling and boating press. Then copy the letter to IBS and Mercury Marine ( the engine supplier )
Sit backand see what happens.
[I had problems when I bought mine, The salesman said it would do a top speed of 40 knots. I knew this was bull but when it was delivered to me after run in it would top out at 24 knots, therefore not as described. I banged my head against the wall with the supplier but as soon as I complained to IBS and Mercury Marine it was sorted in 1 day and the boat now does 32 knots]
Good luck.
What was the problem with the top speed ChrisP?

It seems to be a problem with Quicksilvers (and Arvors - built by the same people) I am yet to meet anyone who hasnt had a problem yet, and we have half a dozen in our club.
The worst was a guy who had a 640, after 1 year of not being able to use the boat for more than a month due to a huge list of problems, he tried to let them have it back - they wouldnt have it, so he sold it.
Good luck in resolving it - if they got these build issues right, they would be a damn fine boat.
AF
Simple problem with mine, The engine was over propped so it would not reach designed max rpm and the engine was set too low on the transom.
Solution lift the engine a notch and drop the pitch to a 15 inch.
Apart from that no problems or complaints in 3 years and 1,600 miles run. I think they are a superb boat for fishing from including the odd overnight.
yes i feel gutted that i have had all the probs with mine

Hi Jamesy,
Sorry to hear of the problems you are having with your Quicksilver. Have you tried to get these rectified by the dealer you purchased the boat from? If so name them on here, im sure that others will pass it on to the dealer in question. I am sure a lot of dealerships use thes forums for feedback on their products and services. I am all for name to shame on these type of situations.
By the way its not all doom and gloom with the Quicksilvers, I have had a 620 for
2 1/2 years and the only problem to date ( Dare I say it) is water leaking in the filler cap after two years, a perished seal. Best thing since sliced bread for me, for it's size.
Hope you get something sorted soon
Steve
Hi Fishy
I am waiting for the importer to sort the problems they are at the boat show till sunday on munday i hope to get some feed back on what they are going to do . I cannot accept the boat as it is now or for it to be repaired asi bought the boat new and free from any defects.
The hull and transom is sodden and this is confirmed by a mioster meter also the stern is now sitting in the water below the water line of about 1 half inches i also have video of the water coming in and a photo of the stern the day after i picked her up from the dealer ?????? to con firm that the boat was sitting higher in the water ( i will name if no joy ). thanks for the concern.

even i didn't realise how many were made over there......

the boats do look the business, but even with a 10 year warranty, you should expect problems with a brand new one.
if you know the transom is wet, then don't accept anything less than a full replacement boat.

Hi
the dealer letting me take the boat from them when i had pionted out to them that water was in the engine bay after a 20 min trip out .(They said that it was normal and the pump would deal with it )
What kind of muppet would pretend that water in a boat after 20 minutes was normal and the pump would deal with it? A fibreglass boat should be 100% dry unless water is coming in from above.
Hi
I gess that i was to trusting Also i had a wilson flyer for 10 years and after the trip out i would let water out of the bung.i also think that the day was overwelming looking back on it But you still would not think that anyone should have a boat like this. Also when i pionted out the leak they should have not let me take the boat .they are the gilty party in al this noy me

hope you get it sorted mate,,
i have just bought a 640 brand new from france,,a couple of bits missing,,windscreen wiper and seat cover, but no other probs so far,,,
good luck too you.
Personally i'd be incensed at the "wait til after the boat show" attitude, i'd be at the boat show, in front of their stand with photographs until i received a cheque or, at least, a letter of intent
The after sales service is a total disgrace

i've been following this thread and think i would be camped outside their stand! i sucessfully used this technique with another (non boat) supplier who claimed to be too busy to fix a bad job. i told him that i would be outside his shop all week telling people going in how bad his service was, he asked what i thought that would achieve and i told him that i hoped that it would mean that he was not too busy to fix my job! i really think that even printing up this thread and handing it out near their stand would soon have them talking to you.
Hi ALL
:) I HAVE TO REPORT THAT IBS HAVE TODAY AGREAD TO REPLACE THE BOAT :)
Although the time has taken 6 months i belive that marine power and the importer did the right thing in the end so end of october i will be picking up the replacment boat
:) NOW I CAN GET BACK TO CATCHING COD :)
Thank you all for taking the time to read this thread
Well done sir.
Nice to see it all work out for you - now get on to them to throw in a few extras as good will gestures! :-)
MarieK

One wonders whether a good slagging off on this forum (where there are doubtless many potential customers), might have influenced their decision somewhat?
Mind I doubt anybody who has read the saga will touch either Quicksilver Boats or their importers with a bargepole now!

i was talking to another dealer today and he says that IBS will sort that out and looks like they already have. he says they are good that way.
nice to hear that you've sorted it out.
steve
:)
Good result, and Nice one IBS.
I think Quicksilver are great boats and have no complaints with mine. I think IBS have done themselves a favour the way this has been dealt with. How many car manufacurers deal with thier warranty problems like this?

I'm glad you had a good result Jamesy. I hope your new boat is trouble free and you have many enjoyable trips like myself in my quicksilver.
I take it you are based in Cardiff marina? Not Swansea?
Cheers Steve

i've been reading through the new quicksilver brochure and the hull only carries a 3 year warranty... not a 10 year warranty which was quoted earlier in this thread.
steve
Really pleased to hear you got a result, I'm sure many of us will think twice about buying one of their boats.... :)

Ye glad it it sorted, funny thing is, I was sure I was going to buy a Quicksilver this year, went to London boat show to talk turkey and came across the Ocquateau 615, ended up buying it there and then, bought the show boat with all the toys fitted. must have been similar timing for you Jamsey. there but for the grace and all that. Glad your sorted and not put off, it's a great past time.

:) nice one mate ,,well done.
Any update on this Jamesy? How is the new boat going?
I have had problems with my 640 as some on here already know, but IBS have also agreed to change mine next month when the new stock comes in. I just have to decide whether to get another 640 or pay the difference (discounted by a couple of grand) for a diesel 630.
Who on on earth would buy a boat from a company called IBS. Medical shorthand for "Irritable Bowel Syndrome". Very common amongst leaky boaters.
