View Full Version : 29th September W.Sussex/ SAS Autumn Intercounty Invitation Fun Meet

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After much agonising, soul searching, cross referencing and tide searches we're pleased (delighted? relieved? excited?) to announce a date for the friendly comp between ourselves, DAB, HHAC, TE and anyone else who'd like enjoy a fun days fishing. It will be:

Saturday 29th September on Widewater beach

This is a lot later than we would have liked but I hope you'll all agree the reasons are sound. We wanted to clash as little as possible with other events, have a good tide at the right time of day and not have too many bathers/holidaymakers getting in the way.

For those that don't know it, the Widewater is a reasonably long stretch of beach with free (that time of year at least) parking, toilets and should provide a diverse list of species to target.
http://www.streetmap.co.uk/newmap.sr...=newsearch.srf

The tide is a big one (6.87m) and we envisage fishing from about 10:30am to 4:30pm.

Rules will be similar (if not the same) as the West Bexington comp in April, but the emphasis is most definitely on FUN and a social occassion. We will endeavour to have some kind of catering available and there will be opportunity to meet for a beer or two later and even move onto the West Arm later in the evening for the hardcore anglers amongst you

We will update with finer details as we go, but I'd be grateful if all interested parties could stick to this ONE thread for the benefit of all and the forum. Firm confirmation of all arrangements will be posted here a week before the event should there be any need for a judicious venue change because of weather or better fishing prospects.

Any questions and I'll be happy to answer as best I can. Stick the date down in your diaries, cancel the late holidays and come and join us for what we hope will be a memorable day

Good luck to everyone who attends this meet. Alas i will not be able to make it due to my daughters birthday party and my wifes birthday running side by side. going fishing on either of those days would certainly lead to divorce. :)

Sorry folks, but that weekend and the next one are going to see me watching the in-laws get fatter and fatter, whilst consuming vast amounts of calories as they all lead their oyster like existences,

I've got a bigger motor now and as I can make a small detour towards the Southend Area I can take three others, if we can arrange one place to meet.

Anyone got any idea what the tide pull is like on this beach, is it worth taking light tackle and 2 & 3oz leads or will it need 5 oz plus and beachcasters?

Defo worth bringing light tackle but as its a big tide so over the top of the tide you'll probably need 5oz. You will get away with 2-3 oz a couple of hours either side of the tide, especially for fishing close in, but it might be a bit weedy which will bump up the amount of lead you'll need. I'll be bringing beachcasters and bass rods and seeing what its like on the day.

Although we didn't win the match, the weather was decent, the conversation on the way to Widewater made up for the crappy weather on the way down. As soon as I parked the fishmobile the rain stopped. The beach was great with lots of little gullys within casting range. Two new species a mullet and a bream, decent food before the comp and all for a good cause. And thanks to Alan T decent scenery on the way home.
Sometimes it isnt the winning that makes these comps worth doing.

By the way, how came we followed Alan, although I must admit, I was sure he had a good sense of direction, Must think about it if he is skippering a boat next, might end up fishing at London Bridge!
