View Full Version : 13 October - Deal - South East vs South Return Match - All Welcome
Right folks - after we suffered a miserable defeat at a windswept and soggy Brighton Marina in July, the South East Forum is holding the return leg at Deal on 13 October. It will be a daytime meet around a middayish tide with full details to be decided nearer the time.
This thread is just for those of you who can fish it to add your names. I know one or two have already posted on the SE forum but please post again here. I am away for the next ten days but thought it would be a good idea to kick this off now - get the date in your diaries and lets try hard to square the series!
I am a definite and as far as I know so are Andy Colmer, Edgey, Tom Parker, Fishyrob and Vic_Fisher. So that's at least 6 for the South already. My apologies if I have forgotten anyone but that's why I started the thread - so we get all the names in one place.
All are welcome - you don't have to be a match angler or even an experienced angler because the meet is the main thing - the match is just for fun. I guess the rules will be similar to the ones we fished to on the Marina - average points per angler.

i'm up for that, i love fishing deal, always a bit hit and miss but october should see the summer sunshine in full glory :g::g:
Would love to come along, but very much depends on work. I'm on shift that day wouldn't you know it, but I'll see if it's possible to get time off. So put me down as a possible. Cheers

Just to let you know our southeast numbers to fish the return comp now stands at 21 so come on southern lads get your names in to come and have some fun and hold up your reputation.

Sorry south boys but ill be training to fight for queen and country by then!! although i wont be there, put me down for nil on the scorecard though!!lol Will be making a big farewell post soon but for all the SE boys woulda been nice to meet ya!!, Although I can say ill be back from the 22nd dec to 6th Jan so any meets whatever or whoever they will be; ill be back to fish against you!! Match fishing isn't my thing, but if you if your just after another South Coast face, at a WSF meet, then I may be able to make it, although I will not know for certain until nearer the time.

Hope you can both make it Judge and Steve - its about the meet more than the match, that's a side issue! Don't be coy, DSD - just sign up mate!

If the probables and possibles can make then we would have a decent line up of 11. But there is plenty of room for more - come on you other Sussex, Hants and Dorset lads - and anyone else who regularly fishes the South Coast - it may be a bit of a slog to Deal but its fun fishing unfamiliar venues and it'll be a good craic!

You could fish the meet, bit of practice for the following day, then stay there overnight for the British open!!!

Not everyone's cuppa ....worth ago though,should suit those that wish to fish for a biggie....the 10lb+ bass last year was worth over £2000 to Pete Owen .
Now then DSD and Hot Wad - you are :offtopic: This thread is not about the British Open, though if you have some handy info to share about fishing Deal then that would be great.
The South East Team seems likely to be huge judging by their thread on the SE Forum. Those of us flying the South flag are going to be outnumbered for sure but then so were they in the first meet and they still beat us!
Looks like we will be taking more to their patch than they brought to ours but surely there must be a few more out there up for this meet and willing to try a new venue?

Anyway, back on topic, but usefull for the off topic topic also, How would I catch a ten pound bass at Deal? Would it be a wild stab that said beast from last years match that is off topic to this topic so we wont go on about it as I dont with to take this topic further off topic, cos I dont want a :offtopic: thingy, was caught on squid? The reason we beat you at Brighton was because we had smaller numbers than you. If your team have large numbers then everybody really has to score points, and it only take a couple of decent fisherman from the team with smaller numbers to catch a few fish to win the comp.
Also the south east team at Brighton had decent fisherman, who had an idea what they are doing, unlike the Essex and Kent matches where it was more of a social in the pubs afterwards.

don't count on it mark, as on the 16th i have a dover trip, and on the 20 somethingth i'm going down to redruth (courtest of chris's holiday homes) for a week, followed by broke city.
if by some miracle i earn so much cash, that i don't know what to do with it, i'll drag me n the kids along.

I hate to say this but I've gotta pull out of this one. Got commitments I can't get out of. Never fished Deal and wanted to do my bit for the South but gotta maintain a happy camp.

The south are dropping like flies for this meet, perhaps we should invite them to fish for their county on the 25th of Jan.

As you said Robin got some talent there. Would be good if some of the Worthing match regulars fishing. . . . .
I enjoyed fishing next to DSD at the Breakwater meet, he made me fish harder by asking me to witness a fish every 10mins! lol good tactic to draw me away from my fishing!
I have total faith in the remaining South team. . . . go on the South!

Im sure if the situation stays as it is then Essex and Kent could split up and we could have a 3 way fish off.
Also this comp is for fun and it doesn't matter if you are not all that good (after all have you seen the Kent team ((they are shocking))

Has anyone got any directions how to get there from esex or a postcode i can pop into the navigator? NY HELP WILL BE GOOD AND ALSO WHAT IS THERE TO BE CAUGHT AT DEAL AS THIS WILL BE MY FIRST TIME FISHING DEAL?
Edgey unable to attend. Sorry. Nothing to do with watching England defeat France to get to the finals.

I won't be there I am afraid. Fishing the South Coast Beach Champs on the Sunday.
Has anyone got any directions how to get there from esex or a postcode i can pop into the navigator?
The post code for Channel Angling in Deal is CT14 6HZ. They're located at the entrance to the pier.
Have been transferred to days for a couple of weeks which means I can come along but I may need transport if anyone can help out?
Will share costs of course.

Sorry mate but unfortunately I don't think I can make it down for the meet - hope you all have a great day.
By the way another tip for Deal is Deb's cafe right across the road from the pier. They do a good breakfast for about a fiver with fruit juice and tea or coffee included.
Looking forward to meeting up with those that are still coming to the meet. we will be meeting at walmer castle car park at 8am .
