*** Scrabster Trip August 2008 ***
I'm planning this for either 23/24 (Bank Holiday 25th) or the following week 30/31 August. It will be the opposite week from the Clyde & West Region Open at Greenock. My booking will be for MV Stormdrift II
Names I have already;
Me
Kenny G
Bmac
PeterTheFisherman
Who's in?
I don't want to discourage anybody, but boat fishing at Scrabster is not for the faint hearted. Conditions are often rough and it's not for those who are prone to sea sickness whatsoever. Just ask DeputyDog or Sultzer?
I've got no doubt that this will become over-subscribed very quickly, in that case, I'll ask for a volunteer to organise booking a second boat (or even a third?). Deposits will be required in January and full payment to be made before the trip. the more I think about it, there's no reason why we couldn't fill three boats and have a right good weekend of it?
Traditional Sweeps to apply;
1. Heaviest Cod - a bottle of "unusual" beer to enter
2. Heaviest other fish - a rig to enter
3. Most species - a bar of chocolate to enter

Hey Ho!
Am back from Hols and now time for everyone to confirm and send me £30 each as a deposit please. Dundee hammer & Co are in and I think that leaves one place spare?
As before, cheques won't be cashed, but merely serve to cover some costs in case you don't show.
No deposit - no space.

Not being funny mate, but by agreeing to take this trip you have closed off spaces that would have been taken by others, ie: you've entered into a contract. It might be prudent to let the others know what your proposals are should I not be able to fill the spaces that you booked?
Kind regards

I know nothing about Scrabster - is it about 3 hours from Aberdeen? Any accommodation in the town? Are we talking Saturday or Sunday or both?
You'd be looking at a little over 4 hrs drive from Aberdeen. There is accommodation right beside the harbour. I would imagine there is still a space, drop ticketty a PM.

I've sent a pm to Mr Boo. The boat looks pretty good and it sounds like a good deal. I'm just not sure about the distance. It's a long way for a weekend .....but the fishing looks pretty damn good!!:g:

I've made a decision to ask for full payment in advance from everyone on this one because we've had a couple of teething problems whilst crewing up. Can I ask for cheques to be sent to me for £60 per person please?
Please send payments to;

Remember to add in a slip with your full name, address, and contact mobile number? Cheques will be banked in advance. It also means we don't have to worry about cash on the quayside. Any surplus will go into sweeps.
Cheers

Vespaman - pulled out late
Marty B - pulled out
NickInTheNorth - PM sent, voicemails left - no response, not paid
Nick1234 - PM sent, no response, not paid
In addition to this, seven others said they would go at one point and have since pulled out.
The options;
a) Boat cost £300 per day to be paid between seven of us - means £86 per head instead of £60 in boat ees - I don't fancy this.
b) Cancel - we lose out, skipper loses out and rightly goes in the huff - everyone loses
c) A strive to get others to come along - my favoured option. We need at least another three for each day to keep the cost at £60 per head. I've tried on Boat fishing and Scotland forums, fishing buddies and clubmates. Now I need help from you guys? I need more bodies or else we all have a very big problem.
As previously intimated this will be the last trip I organise, because this is the third time it's happened.
Please post to confirm you've read this - and respond with any helpful suggestions?

Vespaman - pulled out late
i wasent on this list until a 2 weeks ago,i pmed gordon to get on after the may trip (no joy)i even left comments asking for reserve,no comments so i deleted them.
after the dundee bloke pulled out i got on the list then i had a car problem and used the cash to fix it,im now being asked to help out by gordon for something i wasent even on to start with.
in all respect if could have made it i would have but im not a big earner,
and needs must.
dont see why having a name on a list for 2 weeks makes me liable for others.

I asked Gordon to count me in for this trip at the end of the last day on the May trip, but was told it was fully booked, even the reserves.
For those who do come, its been fishing well, doggies, cod, ling etc, and plenty of maccies for bait!

PeterTheFisherman unfortunately has had to decline due to a very urgent family matter. Best wishes from all of us Peter.
I have had a couple of other enquiries, but still waiting responses. As things stand just now, only a moderate increase in the boat fee of around £5 per day should be required (at the most) as I have had offers of payment from two cancellees. Many thanks gents. If paternoster and Ninja come, there should be no increase at all.
With a few things going on in family life this last week, I've not had tiome to mention the sweeps.
Sweep 1 - a bottle of unusual beer - heaviest fish
Sweep 2 - two packets of hokkais - most species over 2 days
Sweep 3 - a bar of chocolate - skipper's choice for best fish over the two days.
Please remember to bring your sweep stakes chaps, it all helps to make it a bit more fun.

Nice and calm, but even the mackeral were hiding, hell of a job to find any at first, so bear that in mind.
Got one large shoal later in the day!
Not much fish either, a few small Codling, small ling, even the doggies were'nt coming out to play!
Came across one bloody great dead whale out in the bay, been dead for some time, it must have been a MINGY whale:clap3:

Last post before I leave. Tried to call Skipper Mr B to confirm times, but he's not answering.
Please meet on quayside ready for an 8am sail on Saturday. (This does not mean arrive at 8am!).
Cheers chaps.

Fished Scrabster last week, easterly winds force 5 so not very comfortable, the fishing was to say the least poor, scratching rigs were needed, although they have been catching them, there were no spur dogs or haddock and a handful of Pollack and Cod.
Back again in October so hopefully things will pick up by then, maybe you can drop me a line and let me know how you get on.
What boat are you fishing on.

Well the boys are off down the line with some going on to do the Luce Bay meet. A good species tally with a nice smattering of personal bests and first catches for the guys onboard. I'll leave the write-ups for the lads once they all start to hit base...

Think we passed you on the skerry at Holborn Head when we were coming in, gave you a toot and the lads were calling over to say hello - Hope the fishing went well?

Gregor, we were also out on the Saturday and also on the preceding days when it was fishing very well, it was like that sharp turn of wind to the East also turned the fish of feeding during the tides we were out on, it was like someone turned the switch off - Maybe there is something in that old saying?
Glad I had the more philosophical group that day and hope you have a better time in October.

Looks like ye all had a good trip - I was up in the caithness area the fortnight prior and managed to get a couple of trips out 1 on heb warrior and one with our man Davy. The last was cut short due to a fuel leak - Glad to sse it was all fixed ok and hope it was not too expensive Davy. I hope against hope to get back up to caithness this year but am so very short on holidays. Hope this is repeated next year and i will try and time me holidays to coincide this time instead of heading home whilst you lucky so and so's fish.

Yip, installed a Vetus rigid tank the following day and was back out at sea for my party on the Friday - Took some running around to pull it all together and can't thank Jane enough (Chris' partner (Heb Warrior)), for helping out with the delivery of the new tank :)
