View Full Version : Kinghorn meet
Hi all, would anyone fancy a wee meet at the end of the month at kinghorn/pettycur beach. Plenty space and should be a few biggish flounder kicking around then. Also the outside chance of a bass. Even if two or three fancied it, it would be a chance to put away the cod gear for the day .
Thinking 29/30th as that coincides with big tides in the morning for getting bait on the sat or even as you fish. Would be walking back with the tide so not advised to take too much gear.
Anyway if anyone fancies it just post up an interest and we'll see what happens from there.
If that weekend does not suit then no problem to change.
Looking forward ( hopefully ) to some positive reply's.
Cheers Findus...:):)
Hi Findus

Sounds a good idea to me mate.I just have to check my gear to see if it's suitable for fishing outside big clumps of tangles.
hi findus
count me in for now,
( but im awaiting a hospital appointment for back operation soon, which can arrive through my door any time now. )
Andy.
Thanks guys thats a great response, much more than i thought. Might try a sneak fish myself first to make sure its ok.
Any questions or thoughts on the mark itself then just post on this thread and i will try and anwser them as good as i can.
Cheers for now... Findus

i'll be there just let me know the time and place
Lol... only gone and arranged a meet on the girls birthday so not popular to say the least. Anyway on with the show, low tide will be at 11.32am so i would start fishing 1 hour before low or any time before if you fancy getting bait. plenty lug to be had here and cockles + you may pick up a few razors at low tide with it being a spring tide.
As for directions head for kinghorn high st and turn down at the monument (right coming from b/island, left from kirkcaldy) this takes you onto rossland pl then pettycur rd. Follow pettycur rd all the way down to the harbour carpark. The beach is on your right hand side of the pier.
Fishing can be done from the pier or the beach, and also there is a few rock marks in front of the carpark that lead out into sand.
Hope this is enough info for now, any questions fire away... Findus..:)
Findus
What kind of rigs would you fish from the beach? I usually fish from rocks / pier so not too clued up on the old beach front. Might be able to get along to this one (at last). Any tips on rigs/bait/species would be good.
Cheers
Blenny
Hi Blenny - hope you can make this meet mate.
Regarding rigs : a 2 hook paternoster type rig with 12" snoods and size 2 or 1 hooks is what i usually use from the beach. But a running ledger with single hook or a 1 up 1 down\ 2 up 1 down will all work well here. Using brightly coloured beads next to the bait helps when water is clear ( i also colour my weights with yellow road paint ) but not a neccessity.
As for bait lugworm and ragworm usually scores, with lugworm better in a coloured sea (scent). Tipping with fresh mackie should also help and cockles also.
As with all beach fishing, reeling in the line a few feet every now and then can produce takes.
Now that we are nearing October i anticipate some large flounder to be around here along with the chance of a bass ( myself and a mate have both had them from this area between sept-dec ) so heres hoping.
Myself and f1f3r had a night session here in early summer and had flounder and saithe. Nothing big, but as i say it was early summer so hoping the flounder have fattened up by now.
It is a nice comfortable place to fish and the only snag is the incoming tide but i have to admit i like being on the move as you are always covering new ground.
Hopefully see you there....Findus..:)
findus do ya fish off by the sheds at night time or by the cemetry
findus do ya fish off by the sheds at night time or by the cemetry
At night time i fish by the cemetry between the tunnel and sands hotel. The tide reaches here aprrox 3 hours after low and is fishable about 3 hours.
I have also fished the kinghorn end at night in front of caravan site walking back with the tide.
Both are good for flounders but tend to get plagued by small saithe after dark especially in the winter months. Saves the blank though.lol..
Sorry just realised you may in fact mean the cemetry at kinghorn. doh.. Yes fished the beach in front of the cemetry but never fished the sheds at night. Could be worth a shot..

So I take it that the meet is on for Sunday 30th, meeting up around 10.30am at the harbour car park ,at the bottom of Pettycur road,?.

I was going to call dave, cheers for that bigscottie.
Spoke to my mate today who has creels at kinghorn, says he has started getting big flounders in his creels so that sounds positive.
All sounds promising. I might need a bit of beach-casting practise whilst there as I don't seem to hit it very far. Also would be good to add a new species to the list (flounder). :clap3:
Cheers

Dont worry about distance too much blenny, as long as you can hit 40yds + your fine. the incoming tide soon makes sure you are a good bit out once it starts flooding anyway.
not promising but i might be able tp make it depends on work though

Virgin in Dundee? Surely not.
By the way Findus,I'm okay with the bait, lugworm, ragworm, bit of macky strips, and I'm okay with the set up, 2 and 3 hook flappers, size 2 ish or so hooks, bit of 'bling' for attracters, light rods for close in,maybe take the surf rods for longer casts,so the only info I'm still looking ofr,is there anywhere nice for a kip?

Lol... nice sandy beach to kip on mate + a nice tardis toilet on the pier if anyone has the squirts ( bring change its 30p ). Looking at the tides again i think thurs, fri and sat are the biggest springs but still a big tide on sun. Cockles can be picked anywhere on the beach as you fish.
well i was going to go out today but with the weather like it is at mo no-way
had a bash at kinghorn yesterday was full tide wind was quiet rough so couldnt tell between bites or the friggin wind its a place you need grippers i noticed the weights rolling around
i tried makkies stips and lug
oh i fished from the carpark on the corner near the sheds was warmer in car to fish

Deffo better with tide coming in from low adeys, hopefully the tide and weather will help at the meet. By the way did you get my pm??
yup i did m8 not 100% sure what im doing
Was down b/island beach wi bairns this afternoon and noticed 6 windsurfing kites at kinghorn.
I hope were not gonna be fighting for space wi them next week as it looked pretty close to the mark...

a pair of scissors for cutting kites free will suffice
After fishing Kinghorn loch today, I had a wander down to the pier at Kinghorn about quarter past one.
I took photos on my digi camera and tried to post them but got a message saying that they were too big.
Grateful for any help on how to post them.
The file sizes are the same as others posted so cannae understand why it won't let me post.

Findus
I take it the top mark is around the sand bank or there abouts?
fifelad
Anywhere at the low tide mark and walking back should produce fifelad, only tried certain bits here and there but had a few fish, so hoping with all the anglers present that a few fish and hopefully a bass will show.
Not had much experience with the pier but i would think casting out into the sand should produce.

Not heard anything m8 but from what i gather its a place thats not fished much.
The beach i fish is only about half a mile away and it produces well at this time of year for flounder. Same terrain as kinghorn so we should be good.
Im hoping for a bit of colour in the water on Sunday as it usually boosts the catch a fair bit.
Getting some bait tommorow morning as i am on holiday and its big tides so if anybody out and about early morning at B/island beach , i will be at the low tide mark if you want to say hello...

Plenty of colour today at Anster anyway, great big SE swell coming in today. The wind's from the NE so I think it's coming "round the corner" from Fifeness, doubt if it'll go as far up as Kinghorn though.

I noticed that too Arthur, even though the high tides are very high at the moment, the lows to go with them are not all that low.Today at Anster is a 5.8m high, and a 0.2m low, which is about right, but a 5.7m on sunday has only a 0.6m low.Stick that easterly sea to it and it's not going as far back as would be handy for the stock up of winter bait.
Good tide today at b/island anyway, got another good supply of razors and some sandeels. Counted 7 diggers at the low water mark 2 of which emerged from a caravanete so dont know if it was commercials or just anglers. Anyway also got some lug/rag for sunday so bait is sorted.
Starting to get nervous now as i want everyone that comes on sunday to have a good day so hoping the fish are feeding well...

I resemble that remark
I would like to take this opportunity to point out a health and safety issue whilst mixing groundbait for flounder fishing. It is far too late, after inserting burst lug, cockles, crab, mackerel, and pushing the button on the liquidiser,to put the lid on. I have had a shower, and also washed my hair a second time, but my wife still keeps asking where the funny smell is coming from.
Oh aye, advice required. How would one go about removing approximately half a litre of afforementioned liquid from the interior of the shed roof?

can someone point me in the direction of a shop in the locality which may sell live bait for sunday, I've managed to sucure some time to come along on sunday via the better half but think i would have to keep a close eye on my manhood if i went digging for a few hours today, i do however have frozen bait such as bluey, lug, razor and squid.

:lmao: I think you should paint the roof blue, it'll probably match the air!!

Not sure if deals on reels in cowdenbeath may sell live worms or not. Maybe give them a phone or maybe adeys knows as he might be in there more than myself.
As well as lug/rag i also have some salted lug so i will bring it along in case of bait shortages.
yep he has frozen lug in bottom tray of freezer
Cya guys tommorrow, 10:30ish ?? unless times been changed,
