how about arranging a meet to help raise some funds for this great cause .

The RNLI's annual SOS Day on Friday 25 January is going to be bigger and better than ever!Saving lives is what the RNLI does and, because it's a charity, it needs people like you to help.

There are endless ways to support SOS day - organise a sporting event, a cake sale, party night, car wash... the list goes on. Why not give it an SOS theme like 'Slurp our Soup', 'Sponsor Our Sports' or 'Sing Our Songs' and really have some fun?

All the money you raise from your SOS event will help the RNLI's volunteer lifeboat crew members and lifeguards save even more lives. All you have to do to take part is go to http://www.rnli.org.uk/sos or call 0845 787 4999 and the RNLI will send you a FREE fundraising pack - it couldn't be easier!

Agree, although not many of us of had the need for their services, theyll risk all for us.

I have had a close one once and as wrong as it is it takes something like that to wake you up to what the risk and donate.

How about a WSF area Christmas get together, auctions, paid dares gets a laugh (nothing too dangerous or kinky), set entry fee (best offers accepted but dont offer £2.00 and pull up in a Merc) etc, etc should raise a few £.

The most effective way to support the RNLI is join as a member.
I'm an offshore member as I use kayaks, but you can just join at a lower fee to be a shore member.

Count me in, a great idea. I will try to rope some of the tackle dealers in and how about some of the Charter Skippers :)

Have been for the past 30 years now and will do everything to try to raise extra income for them as I have spent a lot of time afloat both pleasure and commercial. And also worked as an auxiliary vessel to tow vessels that were to large for our local RIBs to tow back to shore as my own boat was 48ft and 23 tons and also picked up a kayak 15 miles off shore that could not paddle back against the tide to the amusement of the angling party that I had on board.
And also its not a great amount of fun being got out of bed at 1am to go to look for some fool in a force 8-9 N/EASTERLY and tow them home .

Hi Alan,
It would be an idea to have a boat comp in the Crouch,I am sure one or two of the tackle dealers would donate some gear for such a good cause.
Could have the weigh in at Wallasea, and end the day in the bar.
It would have to be this side of xmas cos of those bloody sprats!

Although a good idea, it would be hard to get everybody who wants to fish onto boats. You could split the meet into a boat meet as you suggest and then have the Essex vs kent match at Dungie as the shore meet for the RNLI. We could also invite the south coast members and have them seperate into counties or teams e.g team extreme and D.A.B. This way everybody is happy.

Open to any suggestions of a way to get this off the ground we can have an inter county meet for the beach anglers southeast v south. southeast v east coast .£5 or £10 donation per head to fish 25% of total collected to go as prize for largest fish.
Or we could just keep it as southeast only .
Also Run a boat meet on the same lines but only the largest fish to count.

what about a meet, £5 or £10 to enter (this is because some people cant afford £10, and other people will think £5 is not enough) open to anybody on any forum. Keep it as 2 rods per person max, remember this is not a comp as more people will fish a meet than a comp, so no team Essex or Kent but a general meet on a beach which is central to everybody. Peopel could also ask their local tackle shop if they want to donate any goods for a raffle afterwards, this does not have to include expensive tackle, simple rigs or weights can be auctiones off.

Jost had a start of an idea from something I have just been chatting to Urly about. We were talking about a boat jumble, how about organising somethino on those lines for tackle and boat bits coinciding with a meet, maybe with the jumle sale on near the beach we fish. Just a thought, needs a lot of thinking about.

i know this is early but please read on :
Me and alan have had a chat to night , we are looking at holding a overnight fish on the 25/26th of jan high tide is at 01:00 give or take a bit lol . so looking at a start around 21:00/22:00 fishing the tide up and 2 hours over / stopping for an hour or two to get together have a laugh and a drink then back to the fishing for 2 hours down till high again at 13:00 .
i am going to send out some begging letters to as many tackle shops as i can to try and get a nice reel as a single prize and any other items donated could go in to a auction.
there will be a compolsary entrance fee and all money will go to the :notworthyRNLI.:notworthy
we have talked about dung as the main place , back up walmer / reculver .
i know comps are not every ones cup of tea (i dont like them ether) but it is for a good cause and you just never know ...
oh and did i mention drink :roll1: thanks mine is a ...........
the prize will go to the biggest fish on a points system (alan i dont know how this works) but i am told it is fairer , we will not do kent / essex as i would like to open it up to all , if you want to drive from any where in the uk you will be welcome (hands off my fosters) .
i hope this is clear .
i will draw up a full set of rules (the boring stuff) nearer the time .
so if you would be interested in this drop in a post . well my name is on the list as is ALAN Ts, HAMMERs , BLACK DAVE , DARREL2000 ,

Wow thats some bid looks like this meet is going to be a good one for the RNLI. Lets hope the rest of us on the beach can raise plenty and beat our last meets £500 that we managed to raise for them.

sh1t hot!!!!!! lol.....who told u that!!!:oops::oops:

It might not have been fishing related. I bumped into a bloke on Brighton beach the other day who was also telling me you were sh*t hot......... Know what I mean...............;)

I nearly totally missed this thread. But seeing as RNLI is one of my favourite charities, I will

a) Come along to be done by Dave Oldman on the beach (you bringing the lube Dave?)
b) Put up Five DVices as a raffle prize (and they might, if I can persuade my partners at DVice, be DGrippers, perfect for Dungy but not quite available thorugh the shops yet, but not promising, and they might be 200gm DVice's)
c) Put a further five up for the biggest (heaviest) single fish caught in the competition
d) Somewhere I have a load of books. If there is a pre/after fishing meeting point, how about an auction of them? Any left over will be donated to an RNLI book shop
e) Try and persuade Slayer to come along.

I will be travelling either from Essex or Brighton, and probably in an empty vehicle if anyone along my route has transport issues.

I cant unfortunately afford to enter the "Sea Mistress" auction, but to anyone who is wealthy, keep bidding. A day out on this craft with Terry is priceless, IMHO

Now listen up Fishyface,If you think you are so good...'I challenge you to a days Hound fishing on 'Island Hopper' in the summer':wiggle:....£50 bet...All winnings to the RNLI....What do you say?
You get the bait, fresh prime peelers will do fine.

......Or we could have a friendly fish, give £50 to the RNLI anyway, and I give you sh*t for the rest of 2008 once I catch more than you. Sounds like a stunning plan, Ron, and I accept your challenge. Mine go back in the water though...........;) (pre-filleted)

A couple of questions here if you please, I have the date we are fishing, but no time when we are fishing from. Also as its not a match does it really matter how many hooks we have on our rigs?
