After a few pms with SJP we were thinking of a codling match at Canvey on Nov 10th to 11th meeting at 8pm and start fishing at 9pm till 03.00. High tide 00.47 5.6 metres.
I have incorperated the NFSA size limits for codling, whiting, pout, flounder dabs and doggies, which should be the mainstay of the fish. So fishing any undersize fish of the NFSA limits will not count.
There will be pools for biggest fish, and biggest bag with is not compulsory to enter.

Count me in, and I might be able to get OCB over as well. What venue are you thinking of?

J it would be better just held around the southfalls part mate as scars is abit away from southfalls so we dont want everyone to widespread

I would include scars, but make the meeting with plenty of time to get to the spots. THe biggest problem with Canvey is it is very peggy. Southfalls, you wont be winning if you dont get to cast onto the slipper limpets, Scars you will only be in with a chance from the last gate at the holiday camp down to the drop. The point, no chance!! Actually, the point is very even in its lack of quality fishing! Othwewise, maybe look at a beach mark. I heard Deal fishes well...........:)
But Clacton, Jaywick, St Osyths, these are fairly even marks, unless we have super casters amongst us, in which case take out Clacton. Another very even area that can take reasonable numbers of anglers, can can produce even at short distance and should be showing a few cod in November is South Fambridge!

You will be sure of plenty of whiting at fambridge on a night tide but the parking could be a bit difficult with to many cars.
unfortunatly I will be working in Paris that week and the following so will be unable to attend just my luck as the winter fishing starts to improve
with the winter species.

The idea for Canvey is that some of us Essex lads have had to travel miles for these meets, Dungie, Widewater, Felixstowe, Brighton and Deal are all around 2 hours away. As Canvey is the only real chance of catching a codling we though way not. Also having a small area for the match e.g behind Thorney Bay can keep the match more friendly.

Have you got a new job mate? Just that you said you werent out anymore for a while after the last trip.

Cant make it myself as its my birthday but how many are going to be fishing i would have thought from deadmans point (the first main steps past thorney bay) round to scars if it was pegged you could probably fit 30 anglers only problem you would need to get there early as if the whiting and cod do start to show there will be plenty of other anglers looking to fish there as well. We fish a few club comps there the whiting and codling will show all along that stretch of wall that time of the year. Long casting doesnt make that much difference most fish are caught between are between 50 yards and 100 yards. Went down there at flat water last tuesday and the ground you'll be casting onto all the way along is mud and shingle no real features other than the outlet pipe about 150 yards from scars.

No job at the moment anyone want my CV then pm me with your email.
As Canvey is just down the road and its going to be a saturday night, I can dig lug on friday for this match. This reduces travelling and cost of bait to a bare minimum, so its a cheap trip.
If the match was any further afield then I wouldn't be fishing it.

pablo
15-10-2007, 11:10
flo and fishyrob are both right as in from dead mans point round to scars the fishing is good, obviously though the plum pegs would be the ones closer to scars. i would hold it around this area as the point is sh@te as fishyrob says rarely produces many codling.
think i might be up for this one as i should be home from work early enough.

for this meet we will be using the NFSA size limits and the points from the SAMF length to points tables. I have also reduced the species of fish that we can fish for. So its codling, whiting, pout, flounders, dabs and doggies. These are the main fish that could be caught.

Flo
15-10-2007, 12:17
Afternoon Jass you might want to include Bass and Rockling as well if your going to fish Canvey, sorry to hear about your job by the way.The only doggie Ive seen on canvey was one that pee'd up my rucksack but you never know stranger things have happened.

jassyfa
15-10-2007, 12:44
Im keeping rockling out the comp as the idea is to go for the codling, so big baits and big hooks. Also I would like the comp to be won with a decent fish not a poxy rockling. As for bass I was thinking of including them, but I had a job interview and I was rushing to get the post on the forum.

never really fish comps and i dont own a ruler, can i be enlightened as to how this works?

jassyfa
16-10-2007, 00:42
The NFSA comps have a measure policy where every sizeable fish is added up and the person with tbiggest length of fish wins. The SAMF have points per species where species of fish gets points depending on their size.
For example fisherman A catches 2 whiting both of 27cm, by using the NFSA rules he has a total length of 54 cm. Fisherman B catches a 50cm cod his total length is 50cm so fisherman A wins thye comp. However using the SAMF rules fisherman A whiting equals a total of 14 points each giving him a total of 28points. The 50cm cod has a point value of 122 points giving fisherman B the win.
By using the SAMF rules decent fish are rewarded with more points, while the NFSA rules the fisherman with the most fish are rewarded.

does a micro whiting still get 14 points?
also i take it fish have to be witnissed by the angler next to you, what if you have a wide spread of anglers some fishing the point and some around scars, and the nearest is a few hundred yards?

Ignoring the last 2 pages of crap, the size limit for whiting is 27cm, which is the minimum size that they can count as. As for widespread anglers we are looking at an easy venue where everyone can fish. Im thinking of behind Thorney Bay caravan site with it being pegged. This stops people walking of to scars and beyond.

depending on how many are going to fish it, i would maybe only peg it from the steps as far to the sewer pipe. this would make it even as the deepwater at scars is an advantage.
at the moment its an easy walk as the camp is open and so are the gates, this would make it alot easier. i will keep an eye on the situation concerning the accsess via this way if you like as the comps a way off yet and cicumstances may change.

ps what crap?

How did that happen....??? Ron, you are a very naughty boy and you should pay pennancve by showing up for this match. Flo reckons fifty yards is enough so you should be ok.

Getting back to the thread, good intentions Jason, but to save yourself lots of complications, make it Cod only. Should be good numbers around by then. REalistically, you are only going to get between six and fifteen anglers, so Paul has a good point regarding pegging from the steps to the pipe. And if we arent many on the night, then perhaps we will all go up towards the deeper water. Fish it on a tide, and rule out the rocks on safety grounds. Oh, and pease can anyone who likes a flutter come in on a pool. Non-compulsory, but it would be nice to maybe subidise my fuel bill from Brighton.......:)

Also we could have a donation for charity say £20 each for save the jassyfa's overdraft appeal.

You dig 500 lug at Thorpe Bay, bring it on.

Oh no.... I dig common lug, not those posh lug at Thorpe Bay......:)
In all seriousness, I doubt if I could dig a hundred myself, even out from the point.

Thorpe Bay is easy lug digging esp after a few days of a south west blow.

honestly he taught me how to dig, make rigs, cast, eat my food, walk, infact I have created a religion after him called Ashism, where to celebrate his life you must have a bonfire every Sunday night. Also there are commandments
1) Though shall use the f or the c word at least twice in every sentance
2) Though shall fall asleep at every fishing venue regardless of weather conditions.
3) Though shall decorate the drivers car by leaving my rubbish all over the foot well or in the back of the car.
4) Though shall not steal unless its fishing weights or rigs
5) Though shall cast erraticly causing fishermen next to to him to shat their pants
6) Though shall enter evey McDonalds in the land and try everything on the menu.
7) Though shall eventually give us asking to take other people fish home as one day I shall catch a decent fish of my own.
8) Though shall do all of the above, then change to a decent bloke for about 5 minutes which makes fishing with him priceless.
9) Though shall eventually (and has) paid for the golden fleece

Alan, do we not have a date:fishing1: with Terry :boat: on the
11th? :boat: :clap2:

the next available date would be sat 24th with high tide at 00.12 (sunday) and the tide being 5.8. If we met at 19.00 hrs we could then take our time to set up before fishing at 20.30 till 02.30.

that date is fine by me, that bit of extra time makes it not so much of a rush after work.

Be better of getting your gill nets out Ron, then, after you've won the match, you can sell the catch to the local fishmonger. :)

Good Idea Andy...Can you give me hand like last week? It was certainly worth the effort along that stretch of the sea wall.

Due to work I am now unable to attend this meet, which is a bit crap as I was trying to organise this meet in the 1st place. If anybody would like to take over then im happy with that, if not we can always reorganise the event for another day.
Sorry for any problems.

Had a look down there last night. Although the tides arent great, the fishing was still a little slow. OCB managed a colding andf a whiting, me just a whiting, despite some fantastic bait extracted from "an essex mud patch" by yours truly...... I reckon still another three weeks or so, although maybe not so long as I saw at least four charter boats sitting in the area of the Chapman Sands, so there must be a few fish out there.
