Just noticed in the Nov Sea Angler mag that someone in Jersey has caught a white bream??? Didn't get that news in Guernsey although I think I spoke to someone on here about it a while back!
A new species to look out for this autumn!

never heard of a white bream.... it may be one of these 'exotic' speicies that are turning up in our waters. like the guilthead bream, it may become more prolific if the waters get warmer

I was looking at something else and found this link on bream if you read down it states:
The Black Sea Bream, Spondyliosoma cantharus, is a protogynous hermaphrodite - female first and then becoming a male at a length of over 20 cm (I think, from memory). The White Sea Bream, Diplodus sargus, is a protandrous hermaphrodite, starting life as a male and becoming a female later in life.

I found that quite interesting on the breeding of Black Bream as it would appear that the large black bream are males and protect the nest and young so the boats targeting these species are probably removing the protection from a nest!

Guern211, there have been sightings of White bream in Guernsey waters by the spearo's so I know where to have a go for them but I guess they could turn up anywhere in amongst the blacks like the couches do.

I agree with the codfather it sounds a bit like an exotic visitor, lets face it more and more different species seem to be turning up around our coast we have seen the Gilthead Bream for a while and now we have Pandora Bream and Couches Bream to boot!I like to think that maybe this is another fish that could be a potential new species lets hope it is ,and if so lets hope it produces around the coast further in years to come like the Trigger fish. Here is a Couches i had a couple of weeks ago.

White bream, Diplodus sargus, have been seen in Guernsey waters for a number of years but none have been confirmed in captures although fish looking like them have been captured and returned to the sea. There is a good video of juvenile white bream swimming in Grand Havre bay on Guernsey's north-west coast at the following URL:

The video footage was taken on Sunday 21 October 2007.
