had a bream with a circular mark like this before, but this one was far worse.
it was caught several weeks ago,it did not hit any snags and was landed cleanly.the holes had the flesh gone, almost like it was drilled out.
any opinions.oh,if it helps,it was caught on the lower severn

it could well be blankerman
here's a link they were quite popular apparentley at one time gives you a little info http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/isle_of_man/7106253.stm
and here's what they did to a salmon tail http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i254/fyshermen1001/misc/large-River-lamprey-damage-on-salmo.jpg
tightlines...................daz
3 holes all on the same side? It's very unlikely that a fish is that unlucky to have 3 lamprey attacks on it, all on the same side of the fish as well.
They look like lamprey bites though. I'd say you have yerself a bit of a conundrum there! :headhurt:

looking closer at the pic http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i254/fyshermen1001/bream20cut.jpgit could be this instead
Costia infestation. (Ichthyobodo) it can be treated with Forma-Green or http://www.fishyfarmacy.com/shopping.html#Acriflavine_Neutral
if it was summer then i'd have said spawning marks possibly

The 2 smaller marks look like ulcers, the big one could well be lamprey damage. Send the pic to the Environment Agency, see what they come up with. :)

did wonder if i could have done that somehow to the fish, but could'nt work out how i could make round holes.never had another fish with that damage on this venue.but had 2 others on another stretch, but only had one hole each.have caught a few that have had scars fully healed which looked similar

Looks like it to me.I had 3 Cichlids in my large tank with very similar , although smaller infections. Its the "white spots" bigger, uglier cousin.

This fish had two attached and a third mark looks like a close call.

It looks very similar to the ulcers that koi carp sometimes get.
