would just like to remind all members of the situation below

please respect these vessels whilst they perform this important task

Due to the prolonged bad weather we have been experiencing, the tug will be dredging in the harbour entrance and off of the west arm during calm periods for the foreseeable future. The survey vessel Capella will also be frequently surveying over the low water periods.
We will try to let any fishermen on the west arm know of our working programme but sometimes due to wind and tide it is unsafe to.

Cod weighed 4lb 9oz and in the fridge...Bass not sure as it was returned to it home but around 5 1/2lb.....bins were so-so...but didnt check them all ........having probs with camera as it got a soaking so trying to dry it out.....2 of the whiting were over a lb....so if you dont mind getting soaked and feel a bit extream fish the arm

Very nice session there MrB!! I'm grounded from all fishing at the moment with health probs, otherwise I'd have been there challenging for them myself as I'd heard of a few bass being caught and noticed the contents of a fat cod's stomach gutted on the wall last week.

Well done on braving it out:clap3: - hope I can post similar report soon.

That's got to be 2 of the very best fish caught on the arm since SAS started. Congratulations. Well over 5lb I'd say, inside or outside? How did you get them in in that big sea?

I got to admit it was very trying at times as i was soaked to the skin (with so called waterproofs thou they held up well)all were caught on the end casting towards the east arm...as iwas seekin shelter knelt down behind the wall....all fish including the whiting hit hard and had to go to the lower stage to gill the bass....so glad of the big swell ......it was all a tad risky in a few peoples eyes but ive lernt to stick it out for results...as they say no pain no gain

DEEP JOY !!! As I'm signed off work and all fishing for the moment and I hope it gives time for some of the other drop outs to be replaced.

Important to keep this to the fore - Please can everyone let Mike/Sean know by email or PM ASAP if the 15th Feb is ok with them? We definitely need full boats and need maximum time to fill any places.

shame boat trip was canceled but then again i dont want to be washed out to sea lol.

as it being rebooked for the 15th feb is a bit of a shame as the baby:2: is due on the 18th or anytime around then. so unless it comes early i dont think be able to make the 15th so my dream of going boat fishing is put on hold again. never mind i am sure there will be a next time .

So far only 25% of the listed membership has applied for membership renewal and only 3% have made a donation to club funds.

Remember this is your club and if you want it to continue in the same successful way as it did in our first year then we need members and funds. Also you may not be entitled to fish competitions or do boat trips if you are not registered.

I think I am up to date with sending new certificates out but if you have requested a renewal and not received it then email/PM me.

Please get them to me as soon as possible. There will be a cut off date.

Just got back from 5 hours on West Arm.

Had 6 whiting and a Dab all on frozeb Black tipped with Mackeral or slippers. (BLOATED COD PLEASE NOTE>) Biggest whiting about 2lb + the rest were pins.................

After 5 blank sessions in a row was beginning to doubt my ability..:thumbs:

About 15 anglers up there (inc Mitch & Mike Spud) and also saw a few Whiting and Dabs. Also one decent flounder......

If you know anyone who wants to build an ARK there is plenty of wood up there. In fact over the wall was un-fishable, all fish came from inside the harbour.

Am told Worthing Pier and worthing beaches are closed ( as per southern FM )

Timber permitting that is, still, can always fish inside if dredger not taking the opertunity of working for a bit

Met up with Mark S today on the arm,
Boy was it slow, Weather was beautiful, calm seas with the occasional big swell, and bright sunshine, About the worst conditions you could hope for, Mark had a few whiting, a fairly decent bass(returned) and a very ulcerated dab. I finally managed 1 whiting of keepable size, but also returned, There was a 3lb bass landed from the end of the arm, and a few dabs, but no flounders . Some planks were being washed off of the beach, I managed to hook a 6 meter bit that tried to take my rod over the side, Will try again tomorrow (Wednesday) with Tony, forcast is awful Strong w-sw winds and showers, PERFECT,
Hope to put a better post on after the sesh

As Tony seems a tad embarssed to put a post on about his very heavy catches today, I must do so, It all started well at 0730 on the West Arm, Was a tad breezy, Force 5 gusting 6 , but we gave it a bash Tony started off well , a good whiting first cast on the inside, couldnt fish outside because it was full of timber being washed in from the channel, This was soon followed by the inevitival rockling and dabs to us both, Tony then hooked in to the fight of his life, a 3 meter plank of 6 x 1 timber. He had to fight it all the way to the beach, before successfully landing it and retrieving his gear, Plank was not returned, neither was it weighed or photographed, But was witnessed by me so is recordable.
Then followed a long session of dodging planks, which came in in quantity. It was totally unfishable for over an hour, We could not fish outside untill after 1100 hrs due to rafts of timber coming in. BUT as the timber invasion and the water colour cleared Fish started to bite. Slow but surely, we finished up with Dabs, Flounders, Whiting Bass and Rockling, ALL returned, Tony did also hook into one of those close weave bulk delivery sacks, the sort of things that you get bulk ballast delivered home to you. This did put up a tremendous fight, being more of a drogue than a fish, BUT it was gallantly landed , not weighed or photographed, and consigned to the bin.
A very enjoyable day, but very hard work

Gray " Bungy" and I fished the West Arm today, I met up with Gray around 07-30 only to find him set up with only one rod that was not even out and he had that scratching your head look on his face. " What's up Gray?" I asked and he just pointed to the wet stuff in all directions and it was at this point I actually managed to wake up and crowbar my eyes open. Blimey! it was like a Handy Andy from Changing rooms wet dream " I guess", there was timber everywere inside upside and outside of the arm. Anyway we had plenty of time to reluctantly set up two rods each and Gray popped back to his car to get his Sat Nav to enable us to start fishing " cast left leave for 6 mins then reel in chuffing quick!".

We had a pretty busy day on the fishing front avoiding timber, however I "thanks to Gray" have developed a more controled method of casting regarding distance and destination.

Amongst the chaos which did decline as the day went on we managed some Whiting, Flounders, Bass "small", Dabs "not bad" and the good old Rockling...I did have to walk the entire arm with a 3m length of 6x1 attached to my rod and beach it so I could retrieve my tackle and I managed to hook one of them bags that hold sand etc when delivered by a grab lorry to your house.

A fairly trying days fishing however fun.

Cheers

I'm glad I fished last night then in that case!

Not a bad session, fishing was possible from both sides where we were, by the second bin. Bait options were blow lug, frozen blacks, mackerel, squid and week old slippers. I ended up with 31 whiting and my mate 17 whiting, 4 flounders (there are some left, the flounder molester hasn't had them all!) and 2 dabs. naffed off about 1 ish.

Five members had a practice session down on the arm today, Conditions were a tad rough first off but once tide turned and wind dropped things were a lot more pleasant, Several species caught, Bass (nice 2pounder to Rob) Flounders dab, several whiting , rockling and an eel( to a non member) Steve and I tried out braid on multiplyers, Bit Riskey but it worked a treat , bite detection seriously improved, and apart from one very minor birdie to yours truly second cast . no probs at all, 20lb braid with a thickness of 8lb mono, great, Other members on the arm, Steve (Mesito) Shuey, Mark S, and Rob, Brian turned up and emptied the bins, what a hero that man is.All in all a very enjoyable day and quite a few fish landed,

Funny how the fish went off when you arrived, I caught just as you appeared on the arm and As soon as you left I started catching again, That big bite that you pointed out turned out to be a very small pin whiting U is a JONAH M8- only joking though- that braid really does give tremendous bite indication. It was well worth the effort today, Now that I have changed my rig set ups I feel that I can at last stand a chance in the match on Sunday , That is if I can beat mark and shuey to their favourite spot. More rumors about the Port authority putting those concrete blocks against the outside wall to fill the big hole, It will surely ruin any further fishing from that part of the arm, Can you imagine 30 anglers crowding on to the end in future,

Fair play and big thanks to the Happy Shopkeeper - hopefully his reward for being so generous - and for giving the rest of us a chance by not fishing the SAS match - will be a lucrative victory in the Fountain Open in Hythe! £1000 first prize that match! And lets hope that Schumacher doesn't make it a hat trick of first prizes in the raffle:)

And big thanks as always to George for the Tronix tackle prizes.

See you in morning bright and early!

Just fished for an hour down at Hove beach by Babylon Lounge. Water had plenty of colour in it up to at least 200 yards out and quite a swell. Lovely to be down there in the sunshine and quite a few nibbles resulting in 3 rockling and and a 27 cm flounder - all on slipper.

There was a Southwick club match there last night with about 10 anglers, anyone heard what came out? It was just starting when I was collecting slippers down there.

From what I remeber of the last match the rules were:

1 Rod
3 Hooks
Measure & Release, anything over 18cm counts.

Is this basically correct?

The carpark immediately on the right as you enter Fort Haven (before the concrete block entrance to main carpark) is free  - if you get there early enough. If you see a car with a yellow tag on the ariel then that will be another club member and you can park behind them if space is short. The main car park is only a couple of quid all day though. ..... Have been working so hard, not had time to post the final reports.

All in all 70 fish were caught by a total of 28 anglers (24 seniors and 4 juniors) who fished the match. Sadly, most of the fish were rockling, with only a few flounders and a solitary whiting showing. The dabs and whiting prevalent earlier in the week had evidently disappeared with the arrival of glorious sunshine, calming seas and bigger tides.

First was Mark_S
Second was Sussex Schumacher
Third was Edgey

Best flat was won by Bungy with a 34 cm flounder
Best round won by Tony Evans with a 25cm whiting

Best Junior was Nick

Blankers Cup won by little John Johnston

Special thanks to Mesito and BloatedCod for their hard work putting the match together. Thanks also to George Cunningham of Tronix and Mike Perfect from Prime Angling for donating raffle prizes.

Thanks also to all the members who turned out for the event. Great to see so many familiar and not so familiar faces.

First match I've ever won so well pleased - thanks to Tony Evans for letting me blag a couple of blacks from him with which I tempted the flounder I needed to pip Schuey.

[For all those members out (fingers crossed) in the boat on Friday

I have just been on the phone to Alan, Grey Viking ll skipper, to ask about bait requirements.
If we are ground fishing , which I think is the plan? , required baits are SQUID & WORM. Cuttlefish would also be handy.

Fish wise there is still the prospect of the odd cod and of course some decent sized whiting ..............but you never know what else :)

FISH IN AND CLEAN UP SATURDAY 23/2

[B]As many of you may be aware, a WSF forum member from Somerset lost his life whilst fishing, Several areas are putting on Charity fish ins to raise cash for his family. It is too short notice for us as a club to organise an event , BUT We have a Friendly Clean up and Fish on the arm on 23/2, It has been suggested that we make a collection at this event to send to the lost anglers family, It obviously would not be compulsory but as a club we thought we would have a serious try and do our bit. if it happened to you we would do the same for your dependants, and so would the WSF members.
Hope to see lots of you there , and bring some cash as well as your brooms

i think you should draw straws for boats and whoever gets the shortest fishes with Sean because if you think his overhead casting is bad wait till you see the under hand under cast its a swinger and ear pinger:oops: (he calls it uptiding...id call for a risk assessment)

boat usually gets back to port around 4/4.30 :boat:

strippers have been ordered ,not sure if i dialled the right number though so it is 50/50 what you get

it will either be the fried egg twins or Fred and Edwin decorators ltd

either way i am sure you can get rid of them at a stroke if not needed

hi daz, how was the trip

who caught what

I thought that this was a boat fishing trip? Plenty of boat very little fish! What a waste of a day - force 6 bitterly cold winds and a real good swell! After half an hour heading out to sea both boats decided it was too rough and turned back to seek shelter closer in. Even so ground baiting was soon to follow with that fisheman's cry of HUUUWIIEEEE! But it failed to bring in the fish! A 4" whiting by Scrottocks (Arthur) was later followed by a lost on the surface 8" dab. That was it Until all agreed to pack up and get the sickies home early then on recovering tackle I pulled in a nice plaice followed by Arthur with its baby brother of 6". A day out in good company but where were the fish? Photos will follow

Thanks for organising the trip - nice idea having two boats!

I got the first catch with whiting, followed by a few more tiddlers during the day. Best catch was a stunning male dragonet. Other guys had a few flatties but all too small. Very disappointing fishing and conditions.

What about your boat?

boat trip

absolutely gutted for all the guys who braved the bitter easterly and choppy seas today for such little reward:sad:

it has been blowing a steady east 26mph at the Greenwich light vessel all day so its hardly surprising the skippers seemed worried about going to far....!?

anyway fair do`s to all and glad all returned safe and well

Well here they are - nice boats but notice the lack of fish!!!
Getting started in the calm of the marina - anticipation?

Our two boats

http://i132.photobucket.com/albums/q40/137peter/Sas%20Brighton%202008%2002/P2150004.jpg

Setting off and still calm!!!!
http://i132.photobucket.com/albums/q40/137peter/Sas%20Brighton%202008%2002/P2150008.jpg

Yukki-yukki-yukki!! Gets a bit choppy here guys!!!!!!
http://i132.photobucket.com/albums/q40/137peter/Sas%20Brighton%202008%2002/P2150012.jpg

Close up to see if they are getting sea sick before us! Should that be catching fish before us????
http://i132.photobucket.com/albums/q40/137peter/Sas%20Brighton%202008%2002/P2150014.jpg

This is why we came out here! IT IS CALLED FISHING!!!!
Arthur gets a prize for the first ?????? FISH????
http://i132.photobucket.com/albums/q40/137peter/Sas%20Brighton%202008%2002/P2150020.jpg

Who caught the biggest fish? Was Pedro the Fisherman the winner?
http://i132.photobucket.com/albums/q40/137peter/Sas%20Brighton%202008%2002/P2150028.jpg

Or should Arthur (SCROTTOCKS) get a prize for the first and last fish of the day??? Should the judges consider the fact that both are undersized?

Sorry SAS 59 - they were coming in so fast on our boat I lost track and lost count! I did enjoy the day out and the experience. Perhaps next time we will have fish!
