19-01-2008, 20:20
Date: February 24th Time: 2pm-7pm Venue: Steetley pier , please look at the bottom of this post for updates.

Get your name down for this titanic clash of rods and fish for the pride of your area!

The Geordies: Jarrow Viking, Bigpaul, Chloesdad73, Medlar, Rambo, Nicky, MickA, robz1994fishingismylyf
The Smoggies: thx_kosh, Bry oM, Pigeon Ian, Codmaster, rockman, Lose I must?, Mike?
The Poolies: Baza, Dabcatcher, Monkeyhinger, Whippy Zippy,
The Mackems: Colin Green, Dangler, Mick Cave, rrjezuz, Codbasher 3, Fatlad

We are going to arrange a shuttle to Steetley by van or car from the Headland.
A small fee of £5 per entrant is to be charged and this will go to the British lung foundation (Duncan Mann Foundation).
Please reply to this thread if your up for the fight and I will add your name to the teams. Also state which team you wish to fish for.

Update: 14/2/08
Not long now fellow anglers, battle will soon commence!

If anyone doesn't know the way to Steetley pier and would like to follow me down to Hartlepool, I will be at Easington services on the A19 between 12pm and 12.20pm on Sunday Feb 24th.

If you would like a lift along to Steetley from the Headland area of Hartlepool, park your car up nearby and meet myself and Bigpaul at the start of Old Cemetery road (http://www.multimap.com/maps/#t=l&map=54.69879,-1.19446%7C15%7C4&loc=GB:54.68249:-1.21669:14%7CHartlepool%7CHartlepool,%20Cleveland, %20England,%20TS26%209) (the long straight road that takes you to Steetley) at 1pm on the same day. We will also take you back to the same place after the meet at 7pm. For anyone who is making their own way to the pier, we will see you there at 2pm.

Just so I get a rough idea of who needs a lift, please let me know through this thread or by pm.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Update: 30/1/08 The rules, I don't like too many rules to be honest but here are some basics........
1. One rod and reel to be used at any time.
2. Two hooks maximum.
3. The angler involved must hook and play the fish to the surface unaided, once a fish is on the surface, assistance by other anglers will be allowed.
4. An opposing team member must record your fish on the card provided.
5. The use of edible crab for bait is not allowed.

To keep this one fair a pegged zone system is to be employed. A lucky dip will be carried out before the competition to find out who is in which zone.

There will be 4 zones, possibly 5 with one team member in each zone.

zone 1 The end
zone 2 The concrete
zone 3 The platform, North side
zone 4.The pier between platforms and the end scaffolding, North side

If there are more than 4 in a team, the extra team members will fish zone 5, the opposite platform.

Scoring. We will have a points system that will work like this: Whiting= 1 point, Dabs= 1 point, Flounder= 1 point.
Coalfish= 2 points.
Cod= 5 points, Bass= 5 points, Haddock= 5 points. Any other type of fish= 1 point.

Undersize fish must be returned but you will still be able to claim points for your catch.

The different teams fishing the competition will have their points added up at the end of the comp, the total team points will then be divided by the amount of anglers in each team.

Example: Total fish points for the Geordies = 50, we then divide this amount by the number of Geordies in the team, lets say this is 5 persons. The Geordies score would be 10.

This will give anglers the option to either keep or return their catch.

Lifts to Steetley and back from the Headland are to be arranged, watch this space!
Good luck to all who enter and may the best team win, tightlines J.V.

Okay these are the rules I have decided on for the competition: Please let me know if you think they are fair or not, or if they can be improved. :g:

We will have a points system that will work like this: Whiting= 1 point, Dabs= 1 point, Flounder= 1 point.
Coalfish= 2 points.
Cod= 5 points, Bass= 5 points, Haddock= 5 points. Any other type of fish= 1 point.

To stop any cheating your catch must be verified by an opposing team member, I will also do my best to keep track of the scores.

This should be good fun and a great way to raise a bit of money for charity. J.V.

the poolies have now got a team..

dabcatcher .... monkeyhinger .... baza .... whippyzippy..

dave why not produce a score card for each team or individual entrant that must be marked up by someone from another team. it will save you having to run around checking every fish.

if each entrant has there own it will be a simple matter at the end to tally the teams total points.

if this is a problem i could make one and and have a load coppied off.

That's a great idea Bill, if you could make the score cards that would be fantastic and a big help. I can't change the title of the thread now but after getting so much ear bashing from the Poolies, I agree the Poolies can have their own team, you will find it on the first post.

There will only be four teams in this competition, the Geordies, the Mackems, the Poolies and Smoggies. The competition is based on different areas of the North East having a bit of a laugh and seeing who can out fish the others. This is not a competition between angling websites, however you don't have to be a member of W.S.F. or even be a Geordie, Mackem, Poolie or Smoggy to join in.

If members of other angling websites wish to join in the fun, they will have to join one of the teams on the day, or even better join W.S.F. J.V.

oh yes jv is it first come first serve or are we having a peg system on the pier cause some of us are not the best casters in the north east lol

This question has crossed my mind, a mad rush for the end that may already be busy with pleasure anglers, what do we do? One option is to ban the end of the pier to anglers and peg it out but to be honest I don't really want to take this option.

At the moment we have only around twenty people interested so unless a load of people turn up or loads get their names down for this one, we will leave the match the way it is, a free for all, pier end included.

I am open to suggestions on this matter, :help:

A mini vote here, who wants to ban the end of the pier and draw pegs from the gantries up or have a free for all, end included.

Ban the end and have a pegged match:*

Include the end, a free for all:

You can vote for this by replying to this thread or by pm to myself if you wish to stay anonomous. A star is a vote cast.

Vote now terminated, a solution has been found, read on.

The best place to fish is normally the end of the pier, at the most it will hold 10 anglers comfortably but fish are caught along most of the piers length.
It's not a big issue really just wondered what you thought. :g:

if the peg system is used we then have a team member from each team close by to verify the fish that is caught and then jv doesnt have to run around checking each fish caught

plus we may have one of the best fisherman on our team codmaster

and Chloesdad73 dont worry big paul  will help u out cause it used to be his second home lol

All rules will be finalised within the next week, they will then be updated to the first post of this thread. One rod per angler, two hooks will be one of the rules chosen though.

The lads who are interested in looking after the cars are trusted friends of a W.S.F. member from Sunderland, if any scumbag is lurking around the cars they will phone us on the pier and possibly call the police.

4 zones, 1 team member in each zone.

1....end,
2....concrete,
3....platforms,
4....pier between platforms and end scafolding.

on the platforms all fish om the same side.

if there are more than 4 in a team they will fish

zone 5 the opposite platform.

other option is any odd persons fit in along with zone 4 where there is lots of room.

the problem will be if the sea gets away it will be packed and something will be decided on the day.

we might even have the pier to ourselves if conditions arnt good so a double up on zones could be done on the day.

The lads who are interested in looking after the cars are trusted friends of a W.S.F. member from Sunderland, if any scumbag is lurking around the cars they will phone us on the pier and possibly call the police.

It wasn't a dig as it's a great idea and I respect the lads who have volunteered, but fishing into dark on a weekend on the Headland in a notoriuos spot for car crime could cause the lads problems. I mean kids nowadays set fire to cars just so they can pelt the fire brigade with bricks when they turn up. It's fair enough ringing either us or the police, but either way it's a long way from the pier and Old Cemetery Road is nigh on a mile long, you can see headlights a minute before they get there. And then what would happen if something did happen to a car, get your fiver back?
If there was ten cars to be looked after that's £50. Ten cars, ten drivers(as the lads traveling with them and the gear can be dropped off with the meeting crowd), three taxi's from the prom there and back about £12 max. The rest if you like put it towards the charity.
This won't affect me as I'll be getting dropped off, but belive me it is a really bad spot.

There was a lad on there last year who found out off some lads coming to fish that one tyre on his car had been slashed, he packed up and left to change his wheel, but the ****s had stolen his spare.

There was a lad on there last year who found out off some lads coming to fish that one tyre on his car had been slashed, he packed up and left to change his wheel, but the ****s had stolen his spare.

ya made a couple of valid points there mate, perhaps Bill or someone could suggest a place to park the motors for us

Thanks for that input Uggy, point taken, that's exactly the kind of info I am looking for.
I will be there early, along with Bigpaul, we will both take anyone who parks on the Headland along to the pier by car and later on back, a couple of trips won't take too long.
We will scrap the idea of cars being watched at Steetley. Makes sense to me. J.V.

I have made an update that includes the rules, you will find this on the first post of this thread.

If I have missed out anything that you think may be important, please let me know.

Basic instinct, if you still wish to join the competition you will have to pick a team from the four already mentioned, Geordies, Mackems, Smoggies or Poolies. We will have more of these type competitions in the future Basic and a Darlo team could be entered then.:)

Rules seem simple enough but the scoring system is missing the bonus points, that is 1 extra point for every 10 cups of coffee that Jimmy drinks, should be good for at least 6 points for the Geordies

Not long now fellow anglers, battle will soon commence!

If anyone doesn't know the way to Steetley pier and would like to follow me down to Hartlepool, I will be at Easington services on the A19 between 12pm and 12.20pm on Sunday Feb 24th.

If you would like a lift along to Steetley from the Headland area of Hartlepool, park your car up nearby and meet myself and Bigpaul at the start of Old Cemetery road (http://www.multimap.com/maps/#t=l&map=54.69879,-1.19446|15|4&loc=GB:54.68249:-1.21669:14|Hartlepool|Hartlepool,%20Cleveland,%20E ngland,%20TS26%209) (the long straight road that takes you to Steetley) at 1pm on the same day. We will also take you back to the same place after the meet at 7pm. For anyone who is making their own way to the pier, we will see you there at 2pm.

Just so I get a rough idea of who needs a lift please let me know, through this thread or by pm.

I remember when he used to take us out on days out to amble fishing we never caught anything so he used to go and see the guys on the boat and ask for a small fish so we could take it hope and kid my mam we caught it.
