Can someone please tell me the advantage of using 2 squids when I am uptiding for cod?
It dont put off doggies or whiting -they just whittle away.
A small bait hooks the fish cleanly & efficently -if its a lsd or whiting I can get it in ,unhook & get the bait out again quickly .

Similary ,I've tried fixed paternoster rigs ,didnt give good bite indication from small (nuisance) fish and didnt seem a very effective hooker. What advantage over a simple running lead does this set-up offer ?

The only advantage I can think of using a pennel is that it makes a nice livebait rig if a whiting hooks itself ???
I,ve never found using 1 hook results in casting the squid off & I dont whip on neither .

Caught this one on the top hook 1/0 uptiding with a big bait...............

Worked long linning and we used cut cuttle the size of a finger nail on 4/0,

The bigger ones down our way do seem to come to the very big baits.

I use a leader , but more for getting the fish in the boat than casting, anyone who cant lob out a bait shouldnt be fishing that way.
Rigs- I use a swivel as a lead carrier running up the leader, bead swivel then 3-5 ft of 30lb amnesia and a 4/0 viking tied on the end , thats the important bit.
I think that all the other booms tubes boobys rattles gizmos just add drag to your rig, you want to be nailed hard on the bottom, thats where they feed.
half a squid catches as well as any round these parts, but we dont tend to get big fish, but better numbers of 3-4lb fish.
I tend to find that although we call it uptiding the better fish come from down the tide, cast off at 45 degrees from the stern.
